Back when we booked Digital Princess to do our wedding videography, we were thrilled to learn that our package included a “love story” video, to be pre-taped and shown at the wedding reception.
We were stoked. We saw it as the perfect opportunity to express ourselves in a very personal (read: unorthodox) way, and a way to give our guests an unexpected surprise. When we told Mercedes and Andrea our big idea, they jumped right on board and blew our minds with their execution of the prep that we had done. The finished product was better than we ever imagined… and was definitely one of the highlights of the whole night for us, and the guests.
When we showed it at the reception, right before the toasts began, the crowd. went. nutz. The earth trembled under the excitement of their standing ovation and demands for an encore presentation. We were on cloud nine, grinning wildly like little schoolkids at Disneyland. Mission fun: accomplished.
So without further ado, I present to you our love story - every bit of it true.

I hesitated before blogging this morning. My hubby and I just returned from a very fantastic 7-ish days in Puerto Rico (wonderfully cool place) to clingy animals and a house… well, let’s put it this way: the last thing we did before we left was get married in it, so in the interests of picture perfection (okay, so we wouldn’t look like total slobs), we hid crap in every available crap-hiding space. Coming home is like being in a really f’d up scavenger hunt.
I’m biting the bullet and changing my name today, spending time away from my new husband for the first time in weeks, AND in a series of super fun government office waiting rooms. Blegh. (But at least I’ll have the second Twilight novel to keep me company. I caved while on the beach and read the first one, and now I’m hooked.)
I have misplaced the cord for my camera (in the aforementioned crap-hiding extravaganza), so I can’t show you honeymoon pics, and I don’t have any wedding pics yet.
But it’s more than that. Our wedding was fantastic. Yea, yea, every bride says that, but they mean it in different ways, and I struggle to explain mine. Yes, I got to marry my favorite man. Yes, we had a great party (with really great food). Yes, his vows were just perfect and my hands were shaking and the music was very personal.
But my favorite moment of the whole night, the one I return to over and over with a lump in my throat and tears threatening to fall, happened just before I made my walk.

A little surprise showed up in my mailbox today. And I am more than thrilled. My two beautiful MOHs put together a little par-tay for yours truly. I’ve been looking forward to celebrating with my closest female friends and family for some time. The sweetly handwritten invitations read “Join us for light lunch, dessert, and cocktails.” And, it’s at my parents’ house (where I grew up).

After getting this, I realized I’ve talked on and on and on about the dresses that will adorn my beautiful bridesmaids, but I have yet to introduce you to them. When choosing my bridesmaids–I will have five by the way–I decided to go with friends who I’ve known for years, who have been close to me during significant points in my life, and who felt like natural choices.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
I decided to have some letterpress business cards printed up as a gift for Mrs. Penguin recently. We don’t really have official titles here at Weddingbee, so when I got to thinking what Mrs. Penguin’s title should be, I realized that she’s really been the Editor in chief since the beginning of this year. She’s been doing a fantastic job — she loves Weddingbee and it really shows!
Meanwhile I’ve been able to concentrate on growing traffic and building new features.
Mrs. Bird of Paradise recently started her own letterpress shop, so she pulled together these wonderfully clean designs for us. Mrs. Penguin wants you guys to decide on her business cards, so please let us know what you think!
Option A: The logo in “Weddingbee green” with Cathleya’s deets in silver. The hearts would be blind (no ink) embossed into the cards.

Have you guys heard the phrase “loving on” before? I hadn’t, until I met up with a group of Texans and Pennsylvanians for a missions trip to Mexico when I was a junior in high school.
Whatever its origin, the expression is interesting in its implication of action. It’s something you do TO something or someone. And that’s exactly what needs to happen in order to turn a plain old barn into a magical wedding reception venue!

Our venue needs some serious “lovin’ on”. Photo by me.
I haven’t thought too much about decorating the reception yet. I still have a few (read “SO MANY!”) details to work out.
I can’t help but notice when I come across beautiful pics of decked-out barns.

Dear Mother Nature,
A bride’s wedding day attire and accessories comprise a carefully-orchestrated look. A lace-edged veil highlights delicate Alencon details on a gown. Swarovski crystals twinkle and shimmer from a glimmering necklace that offsets an otherwise simple sheath. Subtle silver peep toes and a canary yellow crinoline add unexpected pizazz to a taffeta tea length dress.
Each of these styles is perfection. But what happens when you gift a particularly breezy day to the happy couple? There was a time when I believed wacky, windy weather would ruin the impeccability of the bride — and, in the process, the photographs commemorating the wedding day. I know, I know, that’s just crazy! In my defense, I had this bizarre idea before discovering wedding and photography blogs. I’ve long since changed my tack — I love the idea of capturing the wedding day exactly as it occurs, wind gusts and all. But a small part of me still coveted the guarantee of predictable weather for my own outdoor shots.
And then, I saw it. A striking picture, with one snappy line of commentary: “I told you that veil was cooperating.”
Huh. Cooperating?
I was fortunate enough to win a 16″x20″ canvas print recently from UPrinting.com, so last night we picked out which picture we wanted to blow up and put on canvas. We picked this engagement photo, taken by h.vivio photo.

We’ll probably display it near the entryway at the wedding, along some other pictures from over the years. We were originally going to have a slideshow in the normal sense of the word, but then we got lazy. I don’t want to figure out where to get a projector, etc. for the wedding. Nor do I want to stop everything that’s going on in order to play a slideshow during dinner. I’d rather people look at pictures at their leisure if they’re interested while they’re having a drink during the cocktail hour. So we are going to string up some photos along a wire, a la Mrs. Cherry Pie, or maybe use a ribbon to dress it up a bit. We’ll put the canvas print somewhere in the mix and we’ll be all set!
I can’t remember if I first saw infusion jars used at a wedding in Mrs. Cherry Pie’s detail post, but I do remember that I was seriously in love. I’m talking heart-beat-skipping-dry-mouth-embarrassing-palm-sweating love here, ladies.

I schemed for months, trying desperately to work those beautiful infusion jars into my reception. I tried to scheme ways to have signature drinks, pre-mixed, and served in infusion jars. I was determined, and Mr. CC was realistic.

A few weekends ago we officially started our registry process. I say started, because it seems like we have been continually adding, editing and changing our minds on different items. We originally planned on getting all 4 stores completely done in a weekend, and that definitely did not happen. All the choices are almost overwhelming. We decided to register at Macy’s, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, and Bed, Bath and Beyond.
Our first store was Macy’s, and we headed straight for the item we have been coveting since we were engaged. The KitchenAid Mixer! We registered for a beautiful silver one that will match everything. I am already crossing my fingers that someone gets us this guy for one of my showers. Is that bad? My roommate in college had one, and I’ve been dying to get my own ever since I moved out.

Here is a picture Mr. Ducky took of me at Macy’s. Excuse the poor picture quality, but it’s the only documentation I have from the marathon registry day.
Now, here’s our dilemma regarding registering.

I don’t know how much this has floated around the wedding circles, but if you haven’t seen it yet, you should! Especially if you’re in the thick of making your invitations.
I have a hunch nearly every bride goes through a “make the invites” roller coaster like this -

The French Bulldog invitations are off to the printers… YAY! But before we could send them out we had to answer the tricky question of when to start the ceremony, and more importantly, what to put on the invitations. If you’re reading this thinking, ‘Um Frenchie, shouldn’t they be the same time?’ I envy you for your punctual friends and family.
Papa Frenchie and I are always waiting downstairs for my Mama Frenchie and Sister Frenchie to be ready. I had a friend in high school who we’d tell something started at least an hour before it actually did, in hopes of her being on time. Although none of my current friends are that bad, I’d prefer that people don’t have to sneak in in the middle of our ceremony, or miss it entirely.
There is also the matter of traffic. The majority of our guests will most likely be driving 65 miles from Orange County to Rancho Bernardo, which, according to Google Maps, takes a little over an hour. But, that is with no traffic.

Like most soon-to-be-married men, Mr. Yorkie can’t wait to get some quality time in with his guys before the Big Day. With friends flying in from all corners of the country, he really wants to show them a good time. Unlike some soon-to-be-married men, though, Mr. Y isn’t up for the typical bachelor party activities. To be honest, I’m secretly relieved to hear that, but not at all surprised. He’s just not the stripper-loving type.
Mr. Yorkie wants to be able to kick back and relax doing something he loves. Along with his Best Man (aka BIL Yorkie), he’s come up with a plan to do just that. I’ve mentioned before how much Mr. Y loves baseball. (Our first date was actually to a Marlins game!) So it’s only natural that he’s choosing to spend the day with his buddies at the ballpark.

The party will start with a tailgate at Land Shark Stadium.

Check them out: My DKNYC Foxy Pumps!
I confess: These have been unopened on my kitchen counter since last Thursday. I don’t know how I let that happen, but I guess the stresses of work, summer school and the new house just haven’t given me a moment’s time to try them on.
But I love them! I think they’ll be great. Pretty comfy, too!
