Have you seen Paloma Picasso’s jewelry that she designs for Tiffany and Co.? It’s all very colorful and fun, with semi-precious stones and yellow gold. I especially love these things called Sugar Stacks. They come in pretty, bright colors and two different sizes. They’d be a funky, bright addition to any wedding-day wardrobe!
I love ’em, but at $550 to $1700, they’re a tad out of my price range. I was thinking about buying just one with my income tax refund check, but then I found this:

Table numbering (verb): The uniquely bridal attempt at making something totally utilitarian into another excuse to craft something unnecessarily complex and beautiful.
Awhile back, I was totally inspired by Mrs. Eggplant’s DIY photo table numbers post. For some time, I had been thinking about making our table numbers have something to do with our theatrical theme, like maybe naming them after plays we’ve each been in, or such. I also wanted them to carry the polka dot motif that we’ve got going on, as well. But then I wanted to do photo table numbers after seeing the awesomeness of Mr. and Mrs. Eggplant. How to reconcile, how to reconcile…
This is what I came up with:

Pretty cute, right? It really was super easy, too.
I have a confession. I’m a little worried about what people will say about our wedding. There’s no fancy dress, cathedral wedding, or amazing flower arrangements.
Actually, I’m not concerned what people say about Mr. Joey and I. I’ve always marched to the beat of my own drum which I DIYed myself, and anyone who knows Mr. Joey will say the same about him. Who I am worried about are my parents.
With 38 days to go, my parents have fully bought into the style of the wedding. They know there is no flowing gown or wedding cake. They know about the yellow shoes, short wedding dress and the DIYed everything else. While they weren’t jumping for joy at first, they seem to be now. Mama Joey told me the other day that she was really proud that we’d decided to do the wedding on a budget. She herself had a $30 wedding dress and all together spent less than $900 on their wedding in 1979. My Mom is the queen of practicality and I am Mama Joey’s daughter.
When Mama Joey jumped on the semi-alternative bandwagon, I knew I still had my Dad to convince. He comes from a family where weddings are a week long affair and parents spend their life savings on the event. I know he wanted a cake, a large gown and a full mass.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
We did postcard Save the Dates, and I thought it would be fun to write a note to each recipient like a real postcard. Oh, yes, I did just say I thought it would be fun to write a note on a ton of postcards. Right… in any case, I found myself in starts and fits and I finally made a schedule to get them finished.
Bee reader MissCamera posted in our month twin board (Go August!) that she had the resolution of getting out her Save the Dates by January 15th, which sounded great to me! Unfortunately, mine made it across the Atlantic in February. Why didn’t I just mail them from England? The Royal Mail must hate me, because they’ve done things like sent Mr. D’s suit from England to Colombia (South America) instead of Columbia, MD, USA. I also did a price comparison and found it would be cheaper to send a tiny package to the US and send each STD domestically than to send each postcard from England to the US.
I’m not going to lie to you guys; if I had gotten my act together before we left the States it would have been much, much easier. I thought this would be a fun project and when I sat down and thought about how excited I would be to have these people with us on our wedding day, I was happy to write each of them a note. That said, it took me a very long time for me to get off my bum and finish them.
I also miscounted and sent my mother too many extras so I didn’t have enough to finish sending a few of them out! What’s worse is that my mother misplaced the extras (she had agreed to send) so several guests didn’t end up receiving a Save the Date which I didn’t find out ’til I arrived in the US in June… a bit late to send one at that point.
So without any further ado, I’d like to introduce you to our Save the Dates:

…Featuring special guest, Mr. Mary Jane!
After thinking about his options some more, Mr. Mary Jane decided he wanted to go with a custom ring instead of a standard style. We started the design process by looking at a basic style he liked, then tweaked the colors and added some bling.
The final draft?
[This image was created by me in Photoshop; it’s based on photo found here.]
His ring will be very similar to this design, but with minor alterations to the connection points in the four corners. It’ll be white and yellow gold and between 8 mm and 10 mm thick, with a side-diamond on each of the 8 corner points.

We’re officially two weeks out from the wedding, and I am starting to get majorly nervous. All the little details of the day are starting to get to me, and I dream about the wedding every night. Not good dreams, but bad ones, where stupid things go wrong. Like I walk down the aisle without my bouquet. Or my hair is terrible, or my makeup looks like a hot mess, or my dress looks horrible. And all these little things are adding up to one big stressed out Powder Puff!

As I mentioned before, the Cowboy Boot invitations will have five parts: the invitation card, the RSVP card and envelope, a map, a rehearsal dinner invitation (in some of them), and a hang tag to tie the whole thing together. We plan on using one of the various illustrations you’ve seen on each piece.
Next up, the hang tags–you know, the little tag that the raffia is tied through to bring it all together. Since we’re using the birds on the invitation and the barn on the RSVP, the hang tag seems like the perfect place to feature Mr. CB’s horse sketch (the one that adorned our save-the-dates). Planning! This was the most exciting part of the wedding for me. Before planning, we needed to: make sure we set a budget, got a rough idea of the wedding style we wanted, and sorted out what was most important to us. We didn’t want the budget to balloon out of control, so it was best to really try to plan out where the money would be spent.
Our budget was based more upon what we could afford and less on what our “dream wedding” would be. Ideally, they would have matched, but we had to make compromises. Like most brides, my budget wasn’t big, so I had to pick one thing that I would compromise the least on, and everything else had to be budget-friendly.
I started with picking our colors, which were red and pink, with the idea of wanting lots of lanterns. Red and pink are the most common colors (luckily), so we found a lot of things in those colors without spending too much money. Think about Valentine’s Day… everything is red and pink! So, I got a lot of our decorations the day after Valentine’s Day (when they were on sale). We stock-piled a whole lot of candy, and it worked out perfectly.
Be open-minded with colors! I decided to use different shades of red and pink. By not restricting myself to a certain shade, it made our planning easier. Various shades added a nice dimension to our photographs.
Happy Monday hive! (I don’t know why I keep throwing that oxymoron out there for you, but there you go.) But, Mondays are always brighter with the introduction of new bees! There’s no arguing with that.
Say hello to our newest bee, Miss Cloud! Miss Cloud and I both have Lhasa Apsos, and we’ve already jabbered on and on with each other about our furry children. Please give our fluffy new bee a warm welcome to the hive!

About Me: Mr. Cloud and I are Yankees planning a Southern wedding to show our families from Boston and New York our fabulous city. We are complete opposites, resulting in a wedding to include bridesmaids in pearls and groomsmen in Adidas shell toes. I’m a sorority girl at heart with strong addictions to my blackberry, cherry Chapstick, Coach purses, the Boston Red Sox and our fur baby, Bella. I can’t wait to the throw the party of our lives and of course, marry my best friend!

As a nod to two of the major themes of our wedding (vintage and eco-friendly), the Dude will be wearing the suit my dad wore on my parents’ wedding day, back in September 1979. It’s a light gray, Yves St Laurent three-piece number, pictured below.
Weren’t my parents cute?
My mom informed me that, back in the day, this suit cost more than her dress! From what I know about their wedding, it was probably the most expensive thing purchased. After living together for five years, they were married at my great-grandparents’ house in Mount Vernon, Texas. My mom and dad did absolutely no planning–they just showed up and left all the details to aunts, uncles, and parents. My mom’s father was the “photographer”, and my great aunts provided the cake and punch.
A few months ago, the Dude tried on the suit jacket, and it fit him pretty well. For some reason we both thought he tried on the pants, too.

I never thought I would have an outdoor wedding. I knew that the thought of rain would stress me out and that the logistics of planning an outdoor event – especially a summer one – would overwhelm me.
And yet … I couldn’t get the image of an outdoor wedding out of my head. Mr. Bunny and I didn’t have a church we called home at the time, and my parents’ church, for all its lovely architecture, has orange carpet from the 1970s. Not exactly in line with our color palette.
Somehow, I managed to convince myself that the possibility of rain was small in July and that all we really needed for an outdoor ceremony was chairs.
I could rent chairs, couldn’t I? That couldn’t possibly be very difficult.
Of course, that was before we had completely settled upon our budget. Renting chairs for 200 people for less than $400 was a little bit harder than I had anticipated—but only because my expectations were so high!
Visiting the websites of the rental businesses that our venue coordinator gave me showed that it could be done IF we were willing to get plastic and metal chairs.

Engage 09 in the Cayman Islands was, in one word, LEGENDARY. You can catch up on all the tweets about it here – most of us came back on Wednesday, but there are some party peeps still on the island! While I gather pictures from some of the many fabulous photographers that were there, I thought I’d share a video clip from a party on the last night of the conference.
Two of my favorite people in the wedding industry - 79 years young Sylvia Weinstock and Kleinfeld/Say Yes to the Dress’ Randy Fenoli — showed us all how to bust a move!
