I was stuck and inspiration-less for so long when it came to invites, and then, when we picked our envelopes a few weeks ago, the ball was set rolling. Now we’re just days away of having everything we need.
Envelopes? Check! Address list? Check! Paper? On order! RSVPs? Thanks to my amazing MOH Sunny Bunny, absolutely CHECK!
A few summers ago, I bought a lot of about 50 romantic antique postcards off eBay on a whim. They are one of the best buys I’ve ever made and are the inspiration for the whole wedding.
My original plan for RSVPs was to take about six of the postcards I really loved and have 25 copies of each printed.
But my sister Sunny was adamant. Wouldn’t it be so much cooler to have real antique cards? Each an original design for the RSVPs? I could encourage guests to write notes on them and display them at the wedding, ala the photo below from Inspired Goodness:

Yes, we’ve only got about 2 months left until the big day. Sometimes I feel like our wedding day can’t come soon enough and other days I have no idea where the last 11 months of my life has gone. In general, I’m not too stressed about the planning. I feel like we’re making good progress on our long detailed to do list. There’s still a lot on that list, but nothing too crazy (so far). Mr. Joey is done with school in 2 weeks, so that will help a lot. FMIL Joey will be in town a week before the wedding, so if any sewing needs to be done, she’ll be around to help. By sewing, I mean the ring boy’s tie. I finished all 25 of the table runners a few weeks back, but as a sewing newBEE, the tie scares me.
Anyway, I was checking with Martha regarding what tasks she suggests I have done by what date, when I noticed “61 days until your wedding” plastered on my screen. What? 61 days? I haven’t consulted Martha in a while, so seeing the actual number of days left freaked me out. It left me in a panic. I started assigning Mr. Joey tasks to do out of nowhere. I consulted our to do list and immediately set out crossing items off the list like finalizing who gets which luggage tag favor and securing our tourist visas to Australia. Eventually, I settled down and went back to my not-too-stressed self.

Shh… don’t tell anyone!!
Don’t worry… not on Mr. Swan! I think I might cheat on my hairstylist! Hive, I don’t know about you, but I always feel better after I’ve gotten my hair did. I also know that the person who helps care for my hair (and I’m sure yours) has to be someone I can trust, or at least does a good job. I really like the women that currently do my hair, but I’m thinking about cheating on them for the wedding!

Mr. Bruschetta and I are continuing to chip away at tasks on our to-do list, but we recently took a break from the planning — and the stressing — to celebrate the hundred-day mark from our wedding.
We decided to throw a small party, and invited a few guests: homemade pizza dough, eggplant, fontina, tomatoes and gin & tonics. My mister — who normally shuns recipes and definitely doesn’t consider himself a baker — has nonetheless mastered the most delicious pizza dough; he used the recipe below.
We opted for a bruschetta-like pizza, and followed this recipe to prepare the toppings. My mister had gotten a head start on the prep by the time I got home from work, and had all the ingredients on hand — as well as a tasty appetizer course. (Our faves were the cheeses — manchego and Asiago — and the edamame.)

Reader manna2231 posted this photo of her bouquet from her April ’09 wedding. Can you believe she made the bouquet herself? The bouquet was a mix of ivory roses, white ranunculus, white freesia, Ornithogalum (Star of Bethlehem), green hypericum, and salal leaves. She ordered them all online.

Hi, it’s me again - stressing out and over-thinking flowers. I thought I had it settled, and had posted about our final floral decisions. I’m not meeting with our florist until mid-July, but I wanted to have my mind made up sooner rather than later.
I was doing really well until we finally decided on a tie for Mr. S to wear. We’d thought it would be fun to give him a bold green tie, and for the groomsmen to wear black and white ties. So we found this tie on ties.com:

Hey Ladies!
Tonight is the Boston Meet-Up!!
We are meeting at Radius [8 High Street | Boston, MA 02110] at 6PM, and from the sound of things, we should have a pretty good crowd!

The restaurant said we didn’t really need a reservation for a Tuesday night
so we’ll probably just take over a corner of the bar.
Can’t wait to see you all there!
By this point in the game I was deep in the hunt - for steals & deals, no less.
Yes, I admit - I’m a designer junkie crammed into an Old Navy wallet. I desperately wanted a $5000 dress on a $1500(ish) budget. I must reference you to my reasonings, though - they’re rock-solid (for this self-manipula-shopper, anyways).
Realistically, though, the strongest reason for letting myself look at designer gowns was this: I was certain I was going to buy a used dress. Why get a new dress I’d feel “OK” in, when a whole new world of dresses popped into my price bracket once I considered used? Buying your wedding dress used is a very significant way to make your wedding more “green”. Think about it - if all women in the US eventually get married (I’m being generous here), if 70% of them buy a new dress (pretty reasonable, considering the likelihood they’ll wear their mom’s wedding dress), how many of these brides do you think sell their dress afterwards? Only as many as will buy - no more than 30% of all brides. That means that integrated over all women getting married in the US, at least 40% of them have their wedding dress in their closet! Or, worse yet, in the dump! What a travesty of accumulated “stuff”.
So I’m just “doing my civic duty” to recycle :). And I’ll recycle my dress again after I’m married (and hopefully recycle some of that emptiness in my wallet!).
The first place I turned to look for things to “recycle” was preownedweddingdresses.com. I must have ogled this dress for months. It was in my price range, already recycled once, and best yet - in Portland! Unfortunately, it had already sold :(.
Personally, I thought this girl looked better in this dress than the POB model!
Mr. Cubbie - this is where you leave.
Mr Piglet and I hugged it out last night after finally finishing our wedding invitations! Seriously. I’m talking bear hug, two feet off the ground, ‘OMG we’re done’ kind of hug. What a relief to finally drop these in the mail. I have a new found respect for anyone who takes on this sort of DIY project. There are so many components, and if you lack attention to detail (*ahem*… ME), you’re bound to make some careless mistakes. For all you DIY invitation gals…

While the invitations are en route, I’d like to share the sources of inspiration for our invitation suite. And there were many. It was TOO hard to settle on one idea, so I used them all. The thought did cross my mind that our invitations may resemble a Crayola color explosion, but thankfully, they turned out A.O.K. ![]()

Okay, so this post isn’t going to “wow” some of you more craft-savvy hive members. But darn it, I’m proud of myself! I successfully printed off 85 save the date postcards and sent the little boogers on their way. And only a few were “casualties” of my first official DIY wedding project. Not bad, eh? I bought my postcards from Etsy seller turnofthecenturies who offered to create a design with our information and print them for an extra $30. But I decided that I could manage on my own and save the extra money. Here’s the blank canvas I had to transform:
Reader konariley is selling a Modern Trousseau wedding gown. It is style “Carin”, featuring a high neck halter. The dress is lace, size 12, and was bought as a sample. She is asking for $2500, including shipping.

I love my engagement ring and I’m really excited about adding a wedding ring to my finger to join it. Since the engagement, I’ve gotten pretty used to wearing my e-ring everyday. In fact, it even feels a little odd when I don’t have it on. I don’t think wearing a wedding ring with it is going to make of a difference (except when I start frequently stealing glances at my finger… as I did when I first got engaged).
Mr. Beagle, on the other hand, has never been one to wear jewelry. We are getting him a wedding ring, maybe more for symbolism than anything else. He will probably put it on when we have “date night” or go out as a couple. However, I’m not sure he’ll end up wearing daily, as I will be wearing mine. Honestly, this really doesn’t bother me. Although I can always remember my parents wearing their wedding bands, Mr. Beagle has always remembered his parents not wearing bands. Perhaps this is why he may go sans wedding band a majority of the time. Does it make his parents less married then mine? No. The rings are merely a symbol of something much greater.
Will you be a dedicated ring wearer after you get married? Would you be disappointed if your partner was not?
Where did I leave off? Oh yes! Bridesmaids!
After I was pretty much settled on my dress, I sat down to wait for my mother and aunt to arrive as Sunny, Funny and Honey started trying on possible bridesmaid’s dresses.
Once again, I can’t show photos because they weren’t allowed, but here’s a photo of the three of them:

My girls SB, FB and HB
Miraculously, they all liked the first dress we saw there. It can be worn with straps or without, and echos the design and fabric of my dress. I just had to hope that the other two bridesmaids liked it too!

I am 4 months away from the big day, and only now do I feel like I can get ready to start my DIY projects for the wedding. I am trying desperately not to get overwhelmed, but the ideas just shoot off in my head in the shower, when I am drinking my first Diet Coke, at work, in the subway, in the car, in the taxi, at night, in the middle of the night… you get the point.
I am thinking that I really need to list out all of the projects that I want to do and then prioritize. I made a deal with myself that I would start all DIY projects in June and finish by September. Today marks June 1st, and the first day I can get down to business!
Here are the DIY projects I currently have planned:

Amazing couple + Villa Del Sol D’Oro + Jasmine Star Photography + lovely spring weather = a picture perfect wedding!
For me, it was love at first email- I had actually never physically met Alicia until the moment I handed off her bouquet. But I felt like I already knew her through all our excited emailing, and her fabulous blog, which documents every step of her wedding planning (including how she decided to hire The Treasured Petal, which I found so intriguing!)
They are quite the artsy fartsy couple: Alicia is a talented photographer and graphic designer, and Steven is a musician. I just knew their wedding would be chock full of details and sweet lovelies, and it was! I’ve never seen such cohesive design in each and every detail. Alicia made sure that everything, from her dress, to the linens, to the flowers, cake and menus pointed to her original vision for her wedding- whimsical, sweet, uber romantic, but with a little edge. As Alicia put it in our first email correspondence, “A vintage-inspired affair done in a totally modern way.”
Jasmine Star’s work is always stellar, but she and JD really blew me away with this wedding. The following pictures are from her blog- go there and check out the slideshow for more!
Their colors- to die for! White, tan, the softest blush, and deep eggplant purple. Those were actually my original wedding colors (before I changed them 5 times). After seeing it all put together, I wish I had just stuck with them!
