Here are the gifts I made to go along with my “Will you be my flower girl?” cards.
My two flower girls are five and six (or somewhere around that age), and as I mentioned before, they love princess stuff. I decided to make them tote bags and fill them up with princess-related goodies. By “make” I mean iron some sparkly decals onto pre-made mini tote bags that I picked up at Michaels.

Sure, we get to don gorgeous white dresses, yards of tulle (or a poof of netting) and super fab shoes. And trust me, I’m definitely excited to pull my look together on our wedding day. But my attire and accessories have a decidedly bridal feel (um, duh), and I’m feeling a bit envious of my mister — and really, all those grooms out there who are able to wear their passions on their sleeve… literally.
As far as man-cessories go, I think cuff links are the coolest. I mean, look at all the cute (uhhh, I mean really, really masculine) options for pulling together a dude’s dapper duds.
I love how so many designs are re-purposed goods; bits of old wine barrels, vinyl records, Scrabble tiles and newspaper crossword puzzles were just a few of the styles that caught my eye.

You’ve already had the chance to read about the wedding shoes I found and rejected. Now for the happy ending:
A couple of months ago, blonde bridesmaid and I had the great fortune of stumbling upon one of the best reasons to love living in New York: wholesale shoe showrooms. Let me explain.
Blonde bridesmaid was out on Long Island one day, when she (of course, knowing her) made a stop off at the enormous DSW shoe store. Knowing that the hunt for my perfect ivory wedding heels was on, she swung by the dress shoes section and happened to encounter THE PERFECT SHOES. Literally, these shoes look like Stephen Yearick made them himself just to complement my wedding gown. I know I haven’t shown you my gown yet, so keep these shoes in mind for when you get to see the dress — they’re absolutely breathtakingly perfect.
So she finds these perfect shoes, but the biggest size they have left is a 5 1/2 and I wear a 7. Damn. I checked on the website, still only tiny ones there, too. I called all three DSW stores in the city, and nothing. I finally took to scouring the internet for any reference to “Caparros” shoes and couldn’t find the exact pair anywhere, but did find a bare-bones website that vaguely references their warehouse in L.A., their showroom in N.Y., and the fact that Caparros shoes are sold at Lord & Taylor (which is right around the corner from my apartment). After striking out again at Lord & Taylor, blonde bridesmaid and I decided to venture into the unknown of the shoe showroom.
When I was in the throes of my courthouse/city hall search, many of you commented that perhaps I should consider a different venue. A park, a gazebo, or a nearby field would all be beautiful and still inexpensive alternatives where Mr. Mary Jane and I could be married by a hired officiant.
But the problem is: months of build up has lead to complete immersion over exposure to delicious courthouse wedding pr0n.
I mean, check these out (and be sure to click on the “source” under each to see more pics of each wedding).
First, a shout out to a fabulously green-shod bride:

Hey, hive! {Insert embarrassed wave.} Remember me? My name is Mrs. Hot Cocoa, and I used to blog here. {Insert embarrassed grimace face.} I’ve been slacking off a bit, but now I’m back and ready to continue recapping. For real. {Putting on serious blogging face.}
Let’s see when I last left off, Team 愛-Vey and I had just finished getting prettified. With our game faces on, it was time for… well, game time.

In our room, Hottest Sister Cocoa, the head gamesmistress, pulled the ladies together for one last strategy session. Meanwhile, in the groom’s room, Mr. HC and his team listened intently as my Uncle Robert schooled them on the awful fate that awaited them.

…so will the hive come to my rescue?
I think I may have lost it. After changing our wedding accent color, I fell in love with one particular image from the inspiration board that sparked the change. I’ve been obsessed ever since.
Those shoes are a pair of coveted Christian Louboutins (the Coquine Pink Satin Pump, I believe). The lucky bride who owns these not only had absolutely fabulous shoes for her wedding day, but amazing shots of them as well. I want that, too! Even when my accent color was red, I still had plans to spotlight my shoes.
I would never normally spend such a large chunk of change on a pair of shoes. But because I am saving so much money on my dress and my FMIL is contributing more than I originally expected, it has opened up my budget and allowed for me to afford these. And unlike my dress, shoes can be worn way more than once.
Oops, I mean the cream puffs. Back when we were doing our wine tasting, I decided we need to do a cream puff tasting. I wanted to make sure they were as good as I remembered. Well, they are as good, and cheaper than I remember. They sell for $0.50 a piece! We’re ordering 150 for 120 guests, and they should come in at about $75 plus tax.
The only minor worry about our cream puffs is that we can’t order them until about a week before the wedding. Our vendor is actually the Than Brothers, a Pho restaurant chain in Seattle. They said to call no more than 2 weeks (1 week is better) before the wedding. I’m a little worried, but everyone says that’s how they roll. I guess I’m just going to roll that way too.
But back to accessories. When we decided on cream puffs, I was trying to come up with a way of dressing them up on people’s plates. They aren’t as colorful or interesting to look at as cupcakes or cake. They needed something. I was searching on Etsy (as usual) when I found Bake It Pretty. They sell fun cupcake liners in a variety of colors, including yellow.
I’ve always loved the look of a flower girl carrying a pomander. They are just too cute (both the flowers and the little girls of course!).

Oddly enough, the pomander was the first elements I knew for sure would be making an appearance on our big day. As usual, I took the opportunity as an excuse for another DIY project. Here’s what I came up with:
Sometimes as I read through all the blogs and hear the stories of other weddings, I wonder: Am I doing this right? Should I have spent less money here? Should I add in this detail? Lately, I’ve been feeling the guilt of asking myself, “Am I spending too much? Am I a bridezilla? Do I deserve this?” There’s nothing that has really changed in our plans or actions to make me feel this way, but perhaps I do worry about how others perceive me.
As I read through my Google reader I came across two posts at A Practical Wedding and East Side Bride that seemed to voice some of the concerns I was having. It seems like there has been this shift from celebrating and admiring the budget savvy bride, to adding in the extra subtle step of judging those who spend more on their weddings. I don’t think this is always intentional, but sometimes it inferred in comments that are expressed.
We are beyond blessed to have a big family and an incredible community of friends and we want them at our wedding. Does this make the wedding bigger and thus mean a larger venue, more meals, etc. equaling a bigger budget? Yes, but I wouldn’t change that. I should not feel guilty or that I need to justify the cost. But why do I? Even now I feel like I should tell you that my budget isn’t out of control, that I’ve found good deals and I’m not being over the top. I’m not going to though, because that would be giving in to the feeling I’m trying to avoid.

*Disclaimer: I can’t even describe how difficult it is to pick only a few pictures for these recaps! When I can’t pick just one (or two), I’m going to start inserting photo collages. Not only do they look great, but you don’t miss anything either! Thanks, Mrs. Quiche :)
We didn’t want to burden our family and friends with organized activities (after all, this is also a vacation for them, not just our wedding!), but we wanted to adequately thank them for traveling to Jamaica to celebrate with us. By Thursday night, everyone was on the island and ready to party. We wanted to get everyone away from the resort for a bit to experience another part of Montego Bay. Mr. Quiche headed up this adventure - chartering a catamaran!

He contacted a few different places before settling on Chokey Taylor’s Freestyle catamaran. As an added bonus, Chokey Taylor is also an awesome reggae singer… and his website is always a treat to peruse.
As a matter of fact, I recommend opening it in a new tab & listening to the music while you finish reading this recap!
Everyone left their beach chairs around 3 or 4 to start getting ready.

I told you guys earlier about the problems I had with the local bridal salon where I purchased my custom veil. I ended up calling the store and explaining everything that happened. They let me know that the woman who I had been working with no longer worked for the store. They were very nice and tried to convince me to keep my order, but I politely declined, asking for a refund. The way my order had been handled didn’t sit right with me. And anyway, I had been perusing Etsy for veils, and the style options seemed limitless! I decided I wanted something more fun and retro.
I found this great fifties bubble veil on Etsy for only $40!
It’s ivory, so it matches my (original) dress, and it’s got that classic ’50s poof at the top. I think it will end up being just a tad longer than my hair, which I am still growing out. The veil has volume, but at the same time it looks super lightweight and unobtrusive. I love it!
But please don’t think I stopped there!
Our invitations have caused me a lot of stress. I have had so much inspiration from wedding blogs, and of course, the bloggers here on the ‘bee. But sometimes inspiration can be overwhelming. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to have our invitations letterpressed. I just thought that this was something that I couldn’t pass up. I also knew that I wanted them to have a “wood grain” feel and had hoped to achieve this look with letterpressing. I seriously have been thinking about this since day 1 of our engagement!
