Planning To Say Thanks!

July 1st, 2009 @ 9:27 am by Mrs. Cloud

I had already decided that I would be making almost all of our paper products (with the exception of the invitations, I’m just not that brave) and my first task was thank you cards for my showers! So, this past weekend, I decided to get to work. Back in February I had run across Make and Takes‘ tutorial for these super cute hand sewn cards. I whipped a few up and realized they were not only cute but really really easy! How hard could it be? I’ve made five Valentines, what would 25 thank yous be? Piece of cake! And, she already had a template for a very cute wedding ring design!

So I got to work, and a few bleeding fingers later my design was sewn and ready to go.

I grew up sewing with Mama Cloud, so I wouldn’t say this is all new to me at all, but even beginners could pick this up, as it’s just a quick back stitch! I do HIGHLY recommend poking holes before sewing (I used a simple push pin). I tried to skip this step to save time but it made everything much harder and took even longer. All together, after a few nights of watching TV, my sewing step was complete. I’m a bad blogger and took no pictures of this, but when it came to the assembly, Mr. Cloud was on hand with the camera.

Oh spray mount, how I love to hate you. The stuff works like a charm, but makes a terrible mess. I also recommend putting your assembled pieces under heavy books to dry for a bit. I did it with some and not others, and the ones I didn’t bubbled back up from the thickness of the string. It bothers me, but I know in reality people probably won’t notice. I just needed to have a breathe and let it go moment!

I used 4 bar cards from PaperSource in blossom as my base, a piece of black as my accent, and the sewn white card on top to follow the black, white and pink theme of the shower. I adore how they turned out! I stamped a cute “Thank You” on the inside and they were all done! I also have a ton of black envelopes left over from our save the dates that will work perfectly! I haven’t decided about addressing them yet though. Perhaps I could use either a cute label or white pen? I will be spending a day writing these out to hopefully have them in the mail by Monday (my very large attempt to get away from procrastination tendencies). I love how they turned out though, and hope everyone else does, too!

What did you send to shower guests to say thanks?

I was totally originally planning on doing DIY thank you cards, but ran out of time — so Etsy’s my go-to source for these!

Great idea! Thanks for the heads up about putting the cards under something heavy, I’m a spray adhesive rookie! What do ya think the chances are I’ll glue myself to my workspace? haha

Those turned out SUPER cute! I can’t tell from the picture - are the rings stitched in or is there a thread sewn around them?

@Miss French Bulldog: The rings are stitched right into the page with a quick backstitch. It looks way more complicated then it really was though!
