Signature Drink #1 - Check!

July 2nd, 2009 @ 2:30 pm by Mrs. Gloss

While browsing around Williams Sonoma this past weekend, I happened upon our first signature drink…. the Cranberry Daiquiri. The description reads “the classic daiquiri gets a citrus twist in the cranberry-orange pairing”… um, what? the cranberry/orange combo is my faaaavorite. Since we hadn’t really thought about what we wanted to serve, and this sounded delicious, we quickly scooped up 15 bottles. My MOH (being the awesome gal she is) was fully prepared to carry these bottles throughout the rest of the mall - how’s that for dedication?

(Don’t worry, I asked to pick them up out back ;), they were super heavy!) So now, we have one drink checked off our list - I’m working on the second one—I’m thinking something lemon-y and blueberry-y.

I also need to come up with some way to serve them. The really large (3 gallon) infusion jars with spigots are more $$ than we would like to spend (i.e. I don’t really need two $120 jars sitting in the basement after the wedding).

So hive, I turn to you for your help. Are you having signature drinks? If so, how are you serving them?

Oooo, could you float some blueberries in this recipe? http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/drink/views/Limoncello-and-Mint-Sparklers-232652

Sounds delicious! And I think a blueberry lemonade would be awesome.

Sounds delicious and Miss Bruschetta, yours sounds great too! We aren’t to this stage yet, but I guess depending on what you serve you could use some beautiful glass punch bowls—if you have fruit (blueberries as suggested) floating that would be a nice look.

I can’t find them on the website, but I saw red tin beverage dispensers in Walmart a few days ago for less than $10 each! They were super cute and held at least 2 gallons each (quite possibly more). Made me wish I had found them BEFORE my wedding. Don’t know how they’d match your color scheme, but definitely worth checking out (I’ll keep scouring the website…)

I know there are some drinks that are better with actual ice cubes, but have you considered freezing the fruit before floating them? It’ll keep the drink cold in a large punch bowl (or whatever you choose to use) and looks really nice… especially if it were blueberries floating in lemonade, which does sound delicious! My mouth is watering, reading everyone’s summer drink posts today.

I heard of someone doing this with strawberries in their lemonade but I’m sure it would work with any fruit and drink ensemble.

Costco has AMAZING large, 2-3 gallon spigoted bev. dispensers for $20-$30! The BF and I use them for sangria :)

They have similar jars at crate and barrel, not as big but way less expensive. Also check with your caterer they might have some jars you can just use instead of buying. Also remember you can probably sell them to another bride after your wedding.

My friend got cheap plastic spigoted bev. jars that had a tracky design on the front, took nail polish remover to the paint and they came right off. It wasn’t for a wedding so she kept the spout red.

Might be worth a try.

My local Crate and Barrel were all sold out in early June and when I asked if they could possibly drive anywere or have them shipped from another store they said that they were sold out basically everywhere. I got some very nice ones at Bed, Bath, and Beyond for around $30. They are plastic BUT not cheap looking IMO and they work great - no leaking at all from the spigot! The nice think about them is that you can put ice in a reservoir at the bottom so the drink stays cold. Hope this helps!

I saw some great 2 gallon glass dispensers at BJs for $30 each, which led me to a full on internet investigation.

I found some lovely “unbreakable glass” ones at Bed Bath and Beyond that are 3 gallons and also $30, however, we all know that BB&B have a 20% coupon available every week, so it’s definitely the better deal.

I’m still a sucker for those infusion jars! Those Costco ones sound awesomely affordable! I have fantasies about hosting Martha-esque summer backyard shindigs once we move into our new house, so of course I had to register for some jars! We got ours at Crate and Barrel, and I think they were around $60. I bet you could resell them after the wedding too!
