About Mrs. Swan

Are We Done Yet?

July 3rd, 2009 @ 4:05 pm by Mrs. Swan

A Real Conversation in the Swan Household:

Miss Swan: [Choose your own random wedding detail and insert here]. Can you help with that? Thanks, boo.

Mr. Swan: I’m excited about getting married, but the planning is a lot. There’s so much to think about. [Isn’t he cute? He doesn’t know the half of it.]

Miss Swan: I know, and we’ve been doing this for about 10 months now. We’re almost there. ACK!! I haven’t done anything all weekend. Maybe I should do something today. Ughh….

I spent a whole lot of procrastinating this past weekend and definitely not enough on the wedding. I don’t want to be left out there scrambling the week before, BUT I think I am getting tired… of planning. In some ways I feel like I can’t think anymore about the details. I’m not necessarily the world’s most original person when it comes to wedding decor and details, so I feel pretty tapped out (escort cards, anyone? I will figure that out somehow). The funny thing is that I am not doing a ton of projects or things myself, and I’m still staring at a pretty long to-do list.

Given that we are now in the home stretch of planning, we should be amped right now.

Mr. Swan and I are getting more excited about being married each day, but I am amazed at how much this process can sometimes zap your mental energy.

Is anyone else thinking, ‘Are we done yet?’ For those with weddings soon, how are you keeping focused and full of energy?

My wedding is 14 months away :o so I can’t help in that department, but have you thought about trying to have a day where nothing wedding is done—have a date night and relax. Rent a movie, eat popcorn or a dessert and have some wine. Yummy :) Maybe that will help things?

Oh, Mr Star and I are totally at that point! Thinking about the honeymoon keeps us motivated to keep on trucking!

I feel ya! As much as I love the planning, I really do, every once in a while though I feel like screaming. You know like when you have to put together 200 menus, and it got old at like menu 20… Hang in there though, it will all be worth it :) at least that’s what I keep telling myself!!

We definitely felt like this, but then I got a second wind, and had a lot of energy out of nowhere! It will get better!

We also felt like this and we kept saying to each other, “in x-number of days, we’ll be on the beach.” It was the only thing that kept us going.

Aw, at least it sounds like Mr. Swan is trying to help! Mr. Lab can’t even be bothered to ask one of our co-workers for a quote on his DJing services. I mean, he sees him everyday! lol But yes, I usually feel that way on every month mark on the wedding countdown. You’re almost there though!

Thanks for the words of encouragement, everyone.

I’m think I’m starting to get my wedding planning groove back, but I think part of the issue is that I am still trying to figure out the travel portion of my job, which has not ended.

@Miss Lab - Mr. Swan’s been great, but I sometimes have to send him an e-mail reminder.

@Mr. Bee - Yeah, I know. :)

I was just like you. With my to-do list piling up, I just got too overwhelmed to do anything sometimes! I started pinpointing one thing on my list and focusing on it until I accomplished it, and then moving on to the next. It kept me from feeling too overwhelmed!

I’m in the same boat as you. Luckily my FI is a teacher so he’s on summer vacation and has therefore been delegated a TON of wedding projects. We are doing a lot DIY so it’s a bit overwhelming and in the end I’ve decided to give up a few of the DIY things and pamper myself–getting my make-up done now and my hair professionally done.

My wedding is in 3 weeks, we’ve been engaged for 3 YEARS (yup, the military will do that to you :-/) and have been planning this for at least 2 years! Yup, I’m definitely at the point of ‘are we done yet’… lol

I totally feel you. With a 17 month engagement and only 26 days to go, I’m so ready to be done planning, ordering, returning, explaining, organizing, etc. I just want to be married and going on vacation already!! I think I’ve earned it. And I’m only planning a wedding with roughly 60 guests!!

YES. I feel the exact same way… just under 2 months to go and I am so tired of planning. I’ve been enjoying it, but now I’m reaching the point where I want to fast-forward to when it’s all done and I can just get married already!
