About Beehive

Hi Ladies!

My name is Alyssa and I am so glad I found these boards because I’ve been going insane the past few months. My boyfriend and I have been together almost seven years, and we picked out THE ring in March. I have been going NUTS waiting for it. My question is, for those of you who are waiting, or have waited, have you ever totally thought, ‘this is it!’ and then he did something like tie his shoe or stretch? On my birthday weekend, my man and I were in Chicago (my hometown) and I was sitting on a bench in Millennium Park, surrounded by blooming tulips. He got down on one knee - my heart fluttered - and then he tied his shoe. Haha! This also happened in an episode of The Office. Anybody else having all these false hopes? I find myself thinking, ‘What if he does it while I’m in the shower? Or, he could put it in my Diet Coke!’  I’m just making up all these crazy scenarios because I want it to happen so bad.

So, what “I thought he was gonna propose!” moments did you have?

My guy and I spend a lot of time together, so I knew that when I went out of town last September for my sister’s Bachelorette Party, that he’d seize the opportunity to ring shop.

I was really convinced he’d propose, even if he didn’t have an “official” ring yet, at the airport because it’s where we had our first kiss. But I got off the plane and called him and he was late, so just picked me up by the baggage claim and was flustered because he was late.

I knew he had made reservations at my fave restaurant in Orlando and he said he had a surprise for dessert. Dinner came and went. It was perfect, there was good food, wine and plenty of “moments”. So I gave up about 80% hope for it happening that night.

I figured out where we were going for dessert, Disney, which at this point is only kind of special for us. We’re spoiled and live 15 minutes away and he had always said that a Disney proposal was just way too cheesey. So, we got dessert (Pineapple Dole Whips - yum!) and ran into a friend unexpectedly, and he invited the friend to go watch the fireworks with us. 20% hope that was left? Gone. My guy is NOT someone who can plan a surprise and deal with an “interruption” so smoothly.

It was such a great night, but I had finally convinced myself to stop waiting for it because I was setting the expectations up too high.

Then the fireworks started, and before I knew it, he was in front of me on one knee and all I could do was go “mmmhmm, mmhmm, mmmhmmm!!!!” So, it really was perfect.

Just remember that the more expectations you have, the more likely you WON’T be surprised, so better to just….trust… it WILL be perfect and with perfect timing!

Just be careful what you say in the moment - my cousin’s husband proposed at home and she was so surprised she shouted “NO WAY!”.. He was so nervous he said, “That’s not your answer, right?”

:) Hang in there!!!
