Mrs. Bruschetta, Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 25, Communication Professional Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Physical Therapy Graduate Student Engagement Date: November 30, 2007 Wedding Date: August 2009 Venue: St. Thomas of Villanova Church & the F.U.E.L. House About Me: I’m a self-proclaimed grammar geek who loves singing (like, really belting it) in the car. My mister and I are planning a vibrant summer soiree celebrating our passions – including food and Philly – and when we make it official, we’ll have been together for eight years! Being super competitive is in my nature, and talking excessively is in my genes. I’ve got a terrible sense of direction, but can always easily find my way into Mr. Bruschetta’s arms.
About Mrs. Bruschetta

In fact, June was unseasonably cold, and much more cloudy and rainy than what we normally experience this time of year in the City of Brotherly Love. Early summer? It felt more like mid-spring!

No, I’m not fretting yet about our wedding weather (though I have been researching cute umbrella options, just in case). Right now, I’m too preoccupied with what all this moisture’s been doing to my hair.

(source)

Unlike Sister Bruschetta — who has awesome natural curls that seem to thrive when there’s extra humidity in the air — I’m stuck with wavy(ish) hair that reacts unpredictably at best whenever there’s a greater than 10-percent chance of precipitation.

And since the mister and I have resumed our morning visits to the gym with renewed enthusiasm (more on this to come), my a.m. routine has been squished into half an hour. Which means that my ’do is either all up (hello, ponytail), half-up or all down. Straightening my hair on damp days is a complete waste of time, so if I opt to let my locks air dry, I’m “rewarded” with an awesome and seemingly contradictory combination — limp and frizzy. I’m not crazy about options two or three — since they make me look like I’m back in college (or worse, high school!) — but don’t always want to stress my strands with daily ponytails.

I hate complaining this much when the answer — lose a few inches — is so obvious. With an elegant updo planned for the wedding, though, I know my fine hair could use a little extra “oomph”, so I’m not about to chop off any now that we’re under two months and counting.

So can you help me, hive? What are your go-to products to fend off the frizzies and give your hair extra (or, um, just some would be peachy) body?

Oh, can’t help you with the hair body question, Miss Bru, since my hair has a ridiculous amount of body that I struggle to keep under control! I don’t think huge and frizzy is any better! lol

I wish I knew, Miss Bruschetta! I was the same way as you - back in high school as I went to work every day with a ponytail, because all down was not an option, and I didn’t want to stress my hair with heat styling.

I have a complete opposite problem. I’m left to believe my wonderful birth control is making my once pretty hair (that wasn’t thick, but wasn’t thin) fall out. My once fun hairdo’s have been knocked down to a day after day display of pony and pig tails. I have the frizzies too when i do feel like wearing my hair down. I find that using a good hair spray after you straighten can hold very well… you just can’t play with it much.. ALSO i have burts bees avocado butter pre-shampoo tratment. and even though it says pre-shampoo, i warm it up in my hands and run it over my hair after i style. it makes it look nice and shiny, and keeps the frizzies away. :)

hmm..my hair is think and wavy, with some frizz, but I am thinking what about some volumizing mousse? The mousse may help tame the frizz and also give some extra volume while it may help hold the waves in your hair, or curling lotion but it may not give as much volume as you like.

My new favorite brand is Fekkai, sold at Bath and Body Works, Ulta, etc. I have a little wave to my hair, and use the Straight Away with a blowdryer and straightener and my hair does great in humidity. Maybe you should try the Luscious Curls Waves Spray to keep the frizz down if you don’t want to blowdry. Or try the Texture and Lift kit.

OK So I was having a frizz problem and was starting to dislike my new hair cut…but now I love it because I put in some TreSemme Volumizing mousse from its Thermal Creations which works with heat and I put the blow dryer on high and out comes an awesome hairdo for the day! Def try this product…it worked for my Philly hair!

Aveda Hang Straight is my frizz fighter, plus hairspray. But it definitely requires you to blow dry your hair ASAP when you get out of the shower, otherwise the moisture starts working its frizz magic. Also, deep conditioning twice a week seems to be helping me.

Otherwise? I’ve been giving into the waves and using curl enhancers.

I’m about 3 hours north of you and I feel your pain with the weather. :(

Have you ever used the Frederic Fekkai hair care line? I use their curl enhancing shampoo and conditioner and it’s been working really well with my wavy hair. I’m also using some of their AWESOME summer line to combat the frizz. I hope it helps!

Biosilk Silk Therapy (http://www.biosilk.com/silk/). I slather it on after I shower and it keeps my hair frizz-free, and when dry, gives it more control & manageability (which helps when you’re trying to achieve some volume).

Have you ever tried Frizz-Ease serums? I live near Chicago, and it sounds like our summer weather has been exactly like yours. I use their anti-frizz serum every morning, and it seems to help. If you want to make your semi-wavy hair work for you, I’d suggest also trying their curling mousse. You put a little in your hair, scrunch it, and then just use a diffuser for a couple minutes. My hair is kind of curly, and it makes it way curlier. My sister has straight hair, and when she does it, she gets nice waves. I’ve done a lot of trial and error, trying to find products that work in the summer, so I feel your pain! In my experience, the Frizz-Ease ones have worked the best.

Oh, and their mousse doesn’t leave your hair feeling crunchy or looking wet. That’s one of the reasons I like it so much.

If you’re trying to encourage the waves/curls I recommend Iso Bouncy Creme: http://www.amazon.com/ISO-Bouncy-Creme-8-5-oz/dp/B0002Z8MLC/ref=pd_sbs_bt_1/178-8113155-1486630

I love it. My hair is naturally wavy, but pretty unpredictable in just HOW wavy it will be (pretty wavy, or just frizzy wavy) so I usually straighten it, except when its humid out. Then I go for the curles and Bouncy Creme works every time. I live outside Philly, and you’re right - this weather has been crazy, especially to my hair!

I LOVE John Frieda’s Take Charge curl boosting mousse. It can be found at Wal-Mart if you have one in the area. I found it in the travel section! They are $1 each here in the tiny can, but a little goes a long way (plus you could buy 2 or 3! One for your gym bag and one for the bathroom!) The mixture of volume + curl boosting * frizzlessness= curly haired glee! And you could do this with air dry since your morning time has been shortened….

My hair is fine, and has random wave to it. If I airdry it, I end up with the same issues. A bit of frizz, and limp waves.
I swear by Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. When I use it, my hair can airdry and look pretty decent. But it basically cuts blow-drying time in half, so I win either way. It doesn’t add much volume, but works well with a lot of other products and keeps my hair pretty tame no matter what the humidity. (not to mention, it makes me silky smooth!)

Limp and Frizzy!! I know!!! My hair is quite similar I think, and we’re definitely having the same awful chilly humid weather in Boston. Ugh. Usually if I don’t blowdry or straighten, then I at least use some frizz-ease secret weapon on my hair once it dries. It (sort of) helps to chill out the frizzies at least.

My hair is frizzy and I grew up in Houston, which is basically a swamp with terrible humidity! I’ve tried it all, but my faves are Frederic Fekkai Glossing Cream, Chi Silk Infusion, and Biosilk.

Try using some BioSilk (just the serum, but the shampoo and conditioner isn’t bad either). I use BioSilk after I shower, on wet hair, and always before I style it. It works great at keeping your hair look shiny and healthy with no Frizz. I’m a victim of fly-aways and puffiness, but this does the trick. The bottles are on the pricier side, but it lasts a VERY long time. I’ve had mine for 3 years.

I have wavy out of control hair that drives me crazy on humid days. I blow dry frequently which doesn’t help. Lately I’ve been trying to get my hair looking and feeling healthy so I’ve been cutting back on the blow drying and deep conditioning as much as possible. I like use the Kerastase shampoo and Masquintense conditioner then I put a SMALL dab of their Night Serum on the mid-section to ends of my hair, apply a little mousse and air dry. It makes it soft and wavy and my hair doesn’t frizz up as much. Sometimes I add a tiny, tiny bit of Aveda’s humectant stuff it’s really steamy out.
I am also sometimes tempted to shave my head :)
After the wedding, of course. lol

Trimming a couple of inches off of my hair right before the wedding was the best thing I could have done - trust me. My stylist thought the same thing as well.
