The Hair Flower Obsession

July 3rd, 2009 @ 9:24 am by Miss Cloud

Any and every bride that is on the web has run across at least one or two pictures from mrs.pootiekins‘ beautiful wedding. I don’t know when or how, but I fell onto her wedding bio very early on in my planning process (you can also drool over her planning bio here). I must admit, like many other brides to be, I was in L-O-V-E!

This was also the first time I had really noticed any bride wearing a hair flower.

Hellllllo gorgeous! I NEEDED one!

Especially since I had already set my heart on a cathedral length veil. Beautiful of course, but not practical to keep on all night, and I was concerned that once I took it off I would start to feel less “bridal”. Obviously I wanted to avoid that at all costs, but wasn’t too interested in putting on something shorter, so I needed an alternative. So, my obsession with the hair flower began. (Thank you, Pootiekins!)

Then came reality, and the reality is that I am on a budget, a budget that is slowly seeming smaller and smaller. I love Etsy just as much as the next girl, but for real, $80 for a silk flower!? That is OUT OF CONTROL! I almost gave up. I even considered DIY, but I couldn’t even find a flower to start with. Then came Kasia Fink and her stunning and AFFORDABLE veils and fascinators! Recognize her? She’s Mrs. Sea Breeze!

I just placed my order for the Ella Fascinator. It may be her most simple piece, as she has others with feathers and netting, or of course, a full birdcage, but this is EXACTLY what I was looking for! And, for less then half the price of some on Etsy (not to knock them of course, as they are beautiful, but a girl on a budget is a girl on a budget)!

I can’t wait to see it and try it on with my dress!!

Are you making a hairpiece switch after your ceremony?

SWEET!! Thanks so much for posting this! I have also been in love with the hair flower & found a perfect one for… $85! YIKES! These are much more affordable for girls on a budget, like myself!!!

How did you order one? Kasia told me last week she wasn’t taking orders. I don’t get why all of you bees can buy her stuff but the rest of us can’t.

I love Kasia stuff. Good choice.
@Andie: Maybe Miss Cloud ordered hers a while ago… Im sure Kasia isnt intentionally refusing orders and accepting Bee orders instead. That is not how she is…

Very cute! As much as I looooove Etsy, sometimes it’s not quite in my itty bitty budget either.

Love Love Love flowers! So much so that I just did the flower with no veil. I’m sure you’ll get a lovely one for your wedding.

Btw, “mrs.pootiekins” is the fabulous SarahkChen photographer-extraordinaire?! Oh how I love how the wedding industry overlaps itself :)

I went and looked at her bio and it’s beautiful! Gorgeous! I agree, every girl needs a flower if it works with her dress and veil. I personally want one because I highly doubt I’ll ever get a chance to wear another flower in my hair for anything else. HAHA

I went and surprised even myself by picking out a mantilla veil. So yup - I’ll be switching! Into what, well, that hasn’t been decided yet ;)

Love it!

@joyce: Yes, that’s Sarah. She’s equally fab as a photographer as she is as a bride.

@Andie: Hi Andie. Sorry yes, I am not taking orders right now but that only came into effect recently. Miss Cloud ordered hers awhile ago… before she was Miss Cloud, even. I had no idea she’d be a Bee. Remember, sometimes these wedding posts are not written in real time. ;)

Yay! Kasia Fink’s hairpieces are to die for! Wish I would’ve known about her before I ordered mine. (Although I love mine, too!)

Yes I am making a switch from a tiara and beautiful veil to a flower/feather fascinator from Kara at starzselection’s shop on ESTY of course! She is so easy to work with and wow are her prices are awesome. She is doing an elaborate custom piece but I love this fascinator

She is also making my flower girls headbands!

If you are not looking for any of these things but want to see an adorable baby in some sooo cute headbands check out her store on etsy!!!

I made the switch to a Twigs and Honey hair flower after the ceremony, and I loved it! Unfortunately, it got swept away into the sea during our TTD session the day after the wedding, so I no longer have it. :(

@Andie: I’m so sorry I replied to you the day you posted and it must have gotten lost in cyberspace somewhere! Miss Sea Breeze said it though, I wasn’t actually a bee yet when I placed my order! I’m so sorry for the confusion!

@KittyGirl:
I’m not sure when she will open up again, but trust me if you have time it is worth the wait!! :) They are even more stunning in real life!

Super easy to make one yourself, too, as I discovered after also being distraught by ETSY prices.

i made my own out of ikea faux ranunculuses (for like what, $2) and a pearl pin.

i was slightly hesitant, but i just looked at the photos from my wedding last week, and it looked just fab!

i’m glad that my budget made me go DIY :)
