Mrs. Martini's Picture
Mrs. Martini, New Jersey Age and Occupation: 30, Telecom by day, Superhero by night Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Investments & Finance by day, Hip hop dancer by night Engagement Date: May 24, 2008 Wedding Date: March, 2009 Blogging Since: August 18, 2008 Venue: The Venetian About Me: Things that make me happy: Haribo Happy Cola gummies, TV shows on DVD, buying books although I never read them, 80’s rock ballads, ramen, and of course Mr. Martini! He is the calm, logical and number crunching finance guy. I can’t even multiply double digit numbers in my head and I am so indecisive that trying to choose between light green or slightly lighter green paper stresses me out (Wedding planning is going to be soooo much fun). We both find great joy in nabbing great seats at the movie theater for a blockbuster movie on opening weekend, and we are both absolutely crazy about snowboarding. And he loves to cook, I love to eat!
About Mrs. Martini

Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry for such a long hiatus! Rather than make excuses for my laziness, I will just say that I’m back in full blogging force. I finally received our wedding pictures from our photographers, Cly Creation, and all the pictures are just absolutely amazing. I’ll definitely post them soon, and I can’t wait to share them!

But first I wanted to finish up the post I’ve been meaning to finish - here are a few more last minute things that kept me busy just days before our wedding:

1. Petal Cones

I know that I wanted petal cones for our ceremony, but it was tough trying to figure out how, because the chairs in the ceremony room had rounded backs. It was something that bothered me at first because there would be no way to hang the petal cones on the chairs like this:

I love the look of casually draped cones on the chairs because it also adds to the overall feel of the aisle. But alas, since I couldn’t have this look, I had to improvise. I couldn’t place rounded petal cones on the seats of the chairs because I was worried that the cones would roll off and refuse to stay in place. I considered baskets, cups, and everything I could think of, until I came across these at Walmart:

While I did like the square shape of the cones, when I put one together, I actually didn’t like it at all. I thought the white ribbon made the cones look plain and I wanted to dress them up just a little bit.

With so little time left until the wedding day, this was really all I could come up with. I was happy with the end result because I was able to put a handmade touch on the ceremony, and I got to have petal cones on our wedding day. Also, I got to use some leftover scraps from our invites. Only 10 more pounds of scraps to go!

2. Bathroom Baskets

One of the things I really wanted to do was prepare bathroom baskets for the guests. Whenever I go to weddings that have bathroom baskets, I squeal with delight as I sift through the goods to see if there is anything I can put to use. I was really happy with how they turned out, and apparently they were a huge hit at the wedding, mainly because I made sure to include Chasers, the anti-hangover pill! I heard there were people passing out pills throughout the night, and I thought that was hilarious because I was the one that was always known for carrying them around and passing them out to friends during a night out.

I bought the baskets from Michaels. This picture was taken before I filled them with supplies, but by the end of the night when I got my baskets back, they looked just like this. The guests completely wiped out all the contents of the baskets! Everything from dental floss to the first aid kit to the box of Q-Tips: ALL gone. I also included two glass jars with Life Savers Wint-O-Green mints, so guests could “create sparks” all night long.

3. Two minute garter

The last thing I wanted to do was pay 30 dollars for a garter, especially if I was going to end up tossing it behind my back to a group of intoxicated men who would probably end up wearing it as a headband before losing it some time in between taking a shot and stumbling to the bathroom. I found a garter at Walmart for just a few bucks, so I decided to take the plunge and get one. But when I got home and opened it up, this is what it looked like:

The lace was hideous! Even if I wasn’t going to wear a garter during the ceremony and just needed one to throw during the garter toss, I didn’t like this one at all. So I tried to salvage it and take a pair of scissors to it. A few minutes later, I ended up with this:

I cut the lace and the horrid bow off, and attached my own bows using cute white ribbon and a couple of glue dots. Not bad for four bucks and 10 minutes of my time!

4. Pictures for the tables

Taking these pictures at Stratton Mountain was definitely a ton of fun, but then spending time to Photoshop, crop, and print out these babies was another story. I bought very simple, plastic frames from Walmart for two dollars a pop, and placed one frame along with our Stratton Mountain table names on each table. Thinking back, I have to say that the table signs and the snowboarding pictures were two of my favorite wedding projects of all time. I absolutely adored our table names, and the pictures looked great displayed next to them. Also, not all of our guests knew we were so nuts about snowboarding, so it was a great way to share something we love with them.

5. Menus and programs

My amazing friend Y, who designed our invites, also created matching programs and menus for us. By this time my bridesmaids came over expecting to be served a nice dinner, and found me covered in a pile of paper and sweating from the stress. So they immediately set to work and helped me out with assembling everything. Actually, they threw me out of the room and pretty much took over!

Here they are all cut up and ready to be assembled. I am actually very sad about one thing - I forgot to save one program for myself to keep, and every single program was gone by the time the ceremony was over. We made over 100 of them, too. I barely got to see them, but my mom told me that many of her friends commented on how nice they came out and how fancy they looked. All thanks to my BMs and Y!

BM L, who swore she “loves” to cut paper and demanded that I give up the cutting board.

Don’t worry, I did feed all my wonderful ladies and we had an awesome dinner, thanks to the culinary talents of Mr. Martini. Thinking back, I can’t believe that I was so close to the wedding and how much I had to get done. It was totally nuts, and I’m so glad it’s over. laughin

How close to the wedding were you working on DIY projects?

I got the same baskets from Michaels. I didn’t think of putting fill in the bottom, but I’ll have to run out and do that!

I suspect this is what my last few days prior to the wedding will be like- I like the mint idea! Would you consider telling us what you wrote on the label (”mint to be” is all I can read) and I’d like to cute up my baskets too. Thank you!

You did some great last minute projects! I love how you added your special touch to some items you found at Walmart. Sometimes it just takes a little sprucing up to make it fit into your wedding. That’s great that your guests enjoyed the bathroom baskets, and I’m surprised they wiped it clean by the end of the night!

@laurajane: hi there! sorry this took so long - i had to go back and find original photo before it was resized in order to read what it said because i forgot!

i wrote:
mint to be…
…eaten before kissing
…bitten in the dark to create sparks
…given to a friend
…kept in your pocket for a rainy day
…together forever

i admit its a bit cheesy and i thought about it before printing it, but i really couldn’t think of anything else to write other than “please help yourself”
