About Mrs. Quiche

Choppity Chop!

July 6th, 2009 @ 5:39 pm by Mrs. Quiche

Yes, I succumbed to the P.W.C., otherwise known as the Post Wedding Chop.

1

I love it! I was SO tired of my hair by the time I cut it, so I am in heaven. It is the perfect summer style - so light and fresh! It doesn’t hurt that Mr. Quiche loves it, too. :)

I have been wanting to chop off my hair for quite a while now, but waited so I could pull my hair back for the wedding. I also wanted to donate it to Locks of Love - but my stylist told me that I couldn’t! I was surprised. He told me it was because they no longer accept blonde hair, which didn’t sound right to me, but how was I to know?

So, away it went with the sweep of a broom. I checked the Locks of Love website & it doesn’t say anything about not accepting blonde hair! :( I am so sad that I wasn’t able to donate it.

So, did you fall victim to the PWC? Have you ever donated your hair?

I donated my hair once. I was trying to keep my hair long before the wedding, but it didn’t work out and I chopped it in March. Luckily, I still had enough time to get it to be long enough before October.

I have read/heard some bad things about Locks of Love recently, I had heard that some of the wigs actually have to be purchased and not all wigs, etc. are actually donated. I know Revlon has a great program, you should research other programs as well (for future brides with the p.w.c. itch!)

I donated 11 inches to locks of love. They are very particular about it. For it to be used for a wig it has to be all one length, no layers, and not dyed. They will accept hair that doesn’t meet those requirements to sell for doll’s hair to help defray the costs.
I really like you hair. Very chic

Your hair looks great! If your hair is dyed, permed or damaged though, they use it in other wigs to sell to offset the cost for locks of love. My cousin is a hairdresser where they use locks of love and thats where I got that info.

It looks cute! It’s been 6 months, and I’ve been all talk. I’m trying to convince the Mr. that it’ll be okay first. But it’s really getting too long, and when else than summer? I definitely want to donate! I heard about Locks of Love a couple years ago and my hair hasn’t been quite long enough until now.

love it!! I have a friend that donates to Pantene http://www.beautifullengths.com/en_US/requirements.jsp because they only need 8 inches.

I will definitely do the PWC, but I can’t donate because I dye constantly LOL.

Your hair looks great! That’s a strange policy re: the blond hair donation. I’ve been planning to cut my hair for ages–fun and frisky hair is my fave. :)

I was growing mine out for about a year and then last month (4 months shy of the wedding) I decided I’d had enough and chopped it all off. I guess PWC can also stand for Pre Wedding Chop.

I don’t know exactly what I’m supposed to do to style it now, but I am SO glad I cut it all off.

try pantene’s beautiful lengths (someone mentioned it above). they’ll take hair in 8 inch ponytails

the wigs are distributed through the american cancer society - wig banks and look good…feel better (a workshop that helps women undergoing cancer treatment deal with changes in skin, hair, nails, etc)

My wedding is in 3 weeks and it’s taking everything I have not to chop my hair off prior to the wedding… I’ve always had longish hair and I’m dying to chop it off!

I am dying to cut mine, but my hairdresser is going on tour with a local band for a month and I am scared to have someone else cut it! Hmm. If it gets really hot, I might just do it myself! ;)

It’s not that they don’t accept blonde hair.

“Q. Can I donate bleached hair?
A. No, we cannot use bleached hair. The bleach causes the hair to dissolve as it goes through the manufacturing process. Note: Many times highlights are done with bleach. “

I am definitely doing the PWC. I previously donated 10 inches to Pantene Beautiful Lengths and will give to them again. It took a while to hear back, but it was very easy.

Cute Cute Cute! The reason Locks Of Love doesn’t accept blonde hair is because its normally extremely damaged. They have actually just starting taking chemically treated hair recently.

Your hair looks great…very beautiful. I donated my hair…I just asked them to put it in a pony tail and in a bag and I printed out the sheet from the Locks of Love website and dried it and sent it in. A few weeks later I got a card in the mail saying I help three women or children. And when I mailed it in I donated it in honor of my friend Danielle who passed away from skin cancer.

I thought of wedding bee as I was leaving the salon two weeks after the wedding with a shorter, layered bob! I was in the same boat as you, growing my hair out for the sake of the wedding, and in the summer I LOOOOVE having my hair short. It has to be styled to look good, but it takes all of about 10 minutes from post-shower to styled and voluminous.

I totally chopped! But my hairdresser said she didn’t know where I could donate it to, and they’re not big on that sort of thing over here in SA, so mine got swept away too.

It looks great on you! I love this PWC thing!

I absolutely adore your new do! I’ve cut mine off twice for locks of love. Most recently I did it in late October — I schemed and figured out that if I chopped it then, it would have time to grow back out for the wedding. :) (I just didn’t tell FI — he might have been slightly weirded out by my WAY in advance planning…)

“The reason Locks Of Love doesn’t accept blonde hair is because it’s normally extremely damaged.”

Ouch. :( As a natural blonde with healthy hair that kinda stings. No love for the blondes. ^_^

I donated to LoL when I was a sophomore in college and had no problem donating blonde hair (only highlighted like 3-4 times in my life, though). But that was about 5 years ago.

I’m a year out from the wedding and srsly tempted to chop it all off right now and do it again. My hair grows so darn fast that I bet I could get it back fairly long again by next August…Hmmmm.

@Bourie: I understand that, but I don’t have bleached hair, I have blonde hair! That’s why it was frustrating :)

@SpinningJenny: amen!

Love hearing about all of the other PWCers! :)

I’m definitely chopping my hair post-wedding. I want to donate it as well (I hoped I don’t run into any problems like you did. Thanks for the warning so I can research ahead of time!). I’m doing it mostly for my career as a reporter. I’ve been told by several people in the biz that shorter hair is a must because of the mics possibly getting in the way with longer hair. I haven’t had short hair since 2004, so it’s time for a change anyways!

I love your hair Mrs. Quiche! So cute! Mine grows soooooo slow that I’ve only ever had it long enough to donate once in my life. It was literally just long enough to donate.

I had layers and they still said it was okay. Also my hair was dyed, but it was really close to my natural color so maybe they didn’t notice! It’s been about 1-1/2 years since I chopped it, and I cut it again in January as a last hurrah before growing it out for the wedding.

not sure if anybody has mentioned it yet or not, but you can also donate your hair to pantene pro-v’s beautiful lengths campaign. the wigs made with the donated hair are given to women cancer patients. the requirements to donate are a lot less strict as well.

i’ve donated once to locks of love, and am growing my hair out again to donate it to pantene’s beautiful lengths! :D

here’s the website if anybody is interested: http://www.beautifullengths.com
