Great Idea from Martha!

July 6th, 2009 @ 2:18 pm by Mrs. Apple Cider

I saw this conversation starter idea in the latest Martha Stewart Weddings, and now have to “borrow” the idea for our cocktail hour. You can make flags with your guests’ names, and they can pin their names to the year that they met you. It is such a fun idea and I think it would make for a fun wall hanging after the wedding.

There are a few options for getting a number sheet:

1. You can use the PDF from Martha (get it here)

2. You can use Wordle and create your own. Check out that site here.

Here is a link to the how to from Martha. Martha used corsage pins from Michaels Floral Supply. You can get 150 pins for $3.99.

Have you added any last minute DIY projects to your plans?

I love this idea! We had a long (almost 1.5 hour) cocktail hour, and provided as many diversions as we could think of (and pack in our suitcases), but I definitely would have included this! How fun!

I saw this post and loved the idea of conversation starters. This is cute! Let us know how it works out.

Hehe, my first thought was some bizarre date-oriented pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey game. Martha’s idea’s much better than that. ;-)

It would also be cute to do the years that your guests got married/started their relationship.

Martha comes through again! Lately I have been thinking a lot about activities I can include during the reception so that people have a variety of options to keep themselves busy–especially those who don’t drink or dance. This is a great idea!

Wow!
I have been looking for something to add to our cocktail hour!
This is cute and fun. Not to mention, what a great reminder of your big day to add to your home after the wedding.

I wonder, do people put their names on the pin flags or do they just stick them in?

just a hot tip about wordle - the more you type of a certain word (or in this case year) the bigger wordle makes it. i.e. if you type:

1994
1996
1996
1996

then 1996 will be bigger in the design than 1994, not repeated.
