About Mrs. Star

Inspiration Board

July 6th, 2009 @ 2:44 pm by Mrs. Star

I figured after all of your comments and questions about my wedding colors and scheme, I should probably share something to illuminate my vision at this point! You’ve most likely already guessed at what it will look like, since you’ve seen so many of my details already, but it would be considerate of me to put it all in one place, right? Right.

One of the difficulties in having a long engagement (especially when you over think everything like me!) is having waaaay too much time to make decisions and then second-guess them and then think some more and then make new choices and then… well, you get the point.

The two constants throughout this process have been:

  1. My dress
  2. Deep purple

That’s about it.

The original colors I picked were eggplant and forest green. Then I started to worry that the color combination would be too un-chic (which I now think was silly — I really believe at this point that any color combo can be fresh and chic if you do it right). So I changed our colors to purple and champagne. Weeks later, I realized that these were the colors of my Mom’s wedding to my stepdad in 2005. Oops.

Then I decided that, since I’m such a huge polka dot aficionado, they had to be incorporated somehow. So now we’ve landed for good on deep purples with black and white polka dot accents. Today, I think it’s gorgeous. Ask my fiance, and he’ll tell you that I often second-guess even this color choice!

Given that we’re both in showbiz, I also knew that I wanted it to be dramatic, but still romantic and elegant. But the polka dots give the whole thing a bit of “levity”, because I didn’t want the elegance to be stuffy. We also want little shout-outs to Theatre and New York City to be a part of everything, of course.

I’ve worried a lot about the whole thing becoming a cohesive whole, but I think my vision is coming together (you’ve seen a lot of my details at this point, so tell me if it’s not!). I’ve made a really simple and small inspiration board because I’ve discovered that, despite my LOVE for beautiful inspiration boards, I’m not as good at putting them together as one might think. :)

So whaddya think? Have you worried about having too many elements to incorporate into your wedding day vision? Have you second-guessed any of your decisions?

I had the same worry…I was worried that the preppy/nautical thing would be TOO much, but its amazing when you get everything in one place and it comes together! I think your colors and pattern will be gorgeous together! And I love how the guinea feathers from another post tie into the polka dot scheme :)

I love the deep purple. I think that the polka dots will add the fun flair you’re looking for. I change my mind all the time, too. My fiance can’t keep up. I think I have finally picked my colors: fushia, plum, and eggplant with hints of canery yellow.

Luuuuurve dark purple. Our colors are one of the constants that’s amazingly been around since practically the beginning of our planning. The “right” shade of purple, though, is tough to find for so many things, like paper, flowers, etc.

@Bru: It IS really hard to find the perfect shade. I’ve given up on having our deep purples be matchy-matchy because it was too hard, so I’ve got a bunch of deep purples in the same family going on (example: our masks/favors). Hope it works!

I love your simple inspiration board! It’s very dramatic and classy, but not stuffy at all–just what you’re going for!

Cohesiveness is my biggest worry too! I think you really have it together. Hopefully when I am four months out I will stop second guessing.
And I heart your polka dots! They really add a great touch.

Your inspiration board focuses on the four most important aspects: The attire, the cake, decor element and the location!
I love that you made sure to include the “city”, not just the reception site.
Oh, and I totally go back and forth with Spring Green vs. Kelly Green. Too many shades of the same color to choose from!

Ugh yes!! I’m going on a year and half so far in our engagement and I’ve rethought decisions so many times, but now being less than 4 months out (!!) I feel like I finally have to make decisions that stay for good!

Dreamy sigh deep purple. This is just about exactly the look I’m hoping for. But maybe black & white damask instead of polka dots? I don’t know yet!

:) I love purple!! and I’m having the same problem finding the right purple shade, I like the city flavor of the invitation. My colors are purple and green; we are going the rustic road tho :)

Ugh, wedding colours are SO. HARD. =) And they’re especially hard because so much depends on your colours…bah. I’m making myself stick with ours now, though. =D We have a loonnnnnng engagement, but I’ve made so much headway that I don’t want to change everything now! XD
