The Bees’ Wedding Ring Budgets

July 6th, 2009 @ 6:25 pm by Real Budgets

Here are the bees’ budgets for wedding bands! Were you able to find the perfect rings for your budget? Be sure to check out the rest of the categories in our Real Bee Budget series!

~~~
The Sushis’ wedding rings
Mrs. Sushi’s Ring
Engraved yellow gold over top of white gold, Hawaiian Jewelry
Vendor: NEX, HI
Price: $575
I knew I wanted to get Hawaiian jewelry as my wedding ring, so we waited ’til we were in Hawaii to order my ring. I ordered my ring a week before the wedding and paid a whopping extra $25 to make sure it would be ready in time. My ring available for pick up the evening before the wedding. Talk about cutting it close! Thanks to the military and the Navy Exchange, I was able to get my ring far cheaper than if I would have bought it locally (no tax, too!).
Mr. Sushi’s Ring:
Tungsten
Vendor: AAFES
Price: $119
We got Mr. Sushi’s ring from the military AAFES catalog. Yea, we milked the military discounts pretty good. It was actually the first wedding purchase we made, a year out from our wedding. He loved it and it was super affordable; we just couldn’t pass it up.
—————————
The Penguins’ wedding rings
Mrs. Penguin’s Ring
White gold and diamonds, eternity band
Vendor: Jared in Edina, MN
Price: $1100
Mr. Penguin’s Ring
White gold and tungsten
Vendor: Jared in Edina, MN
Price: $400
We bought our rings in a rush - 3 weeks before the wedding! One thing that bugged me was that the rings were marked in the store approximately $70 or so dollars cheaper than they were, and then when we went to pay for them, they rang up as more expensive. We asked why we were being charged more, and the salesman told us it was because the price of the metals had gone up the previous Friday. Huh? Why do they bother labeling wrong prices? Why do they even mark prices of rings if the prices change all the time? I am not ballsy enough to argue with people over prices, but I really feel like they should have told us UP FRONT that the rings were all marked wrong prices. The guy didn’t say anything, and we just noticed that the prices didn’t add up when he was swiping our credit card. Shady. Jared is kind of shady.
—————————
The Cherry Pies’ wedding bands
Mrs. Cherry Pie’s Ring
Platinum with two small diamonds bezel inset
Vendor: Custom designed by the two of us with Green Lake Jewelry Works in Seattle to match my engagement ring, which was designed by Mr. CP with the same jeweler.
Price: $1200
When we got engaged, Mr. CP presented me with a gorgeous ring he custom-designed with Green Lake Jewelry works. Because of the shape and quality of this ring, we wanted to built a wedding band design that fit with it. The end result is a 2-piece set that fits together like a puzzle with an entirely unique character.
Mr. Cherry Pie’s Ring
Platinum and yellow gold
Price: $2600
Vendor: Coge Designs, sold at E.E. Robbins
My original intent wasn’t to spend so much on Mr. CP’s wedding band. At first, we considered tungsten bands that cost $300. But Mr. CP fell love with this platinum and gold Coge Design ring and I wanted to get him exactly what he wanted. It’s beautiful!
—————————
The Gummi Bears’ wedding rings
Mrs. Gummi Bear’s Ring
Vendor: Eric Trabert
Price: $2725 for my ring including the matching pink diamond.
Mr. Gummi Bear’s Ring
Vendor: Niwaka
Price: $1340 for the ring including the small pink diamond.
—————————
The Mary Janes’ wedding rings
Miss Mary Jane’s Ring
18k white gold half-eternity band
Vendor: Levy Creations and purchased through River City Jewelers of Grand Forks.
Price: $1800
Mr. Mary Jane’s Ring
18k white + yellow gold with diamonds
Vendor: Custom designed by River City Jewelers of Grand Forks.
Price: $1400
When it came to our rings, Mr. MJ and I took a “money is no object” attitude. You could say that a ring is just a trinket, or a tiny bit of metal and stones, but to us these are forever. So we wanted to make sure we each got exactly what wanted (regardless of whether it happened to cost $100 or $10,000). We bought my wedding band along with my engagement ring: they are a matching set. It fits flush against my e-ring, which was important to me (especially given the unique shape of my e-ring). Mr. MJ’s wedding band was more difficult to pick out because he wasn’t really sure what style he wanted (and he didn’t like most of the options out there). We ended up choosing a style he liked online and having our trusted jeweler build something custom based on that style. The photo above is the inspiration; we won’t see the final product until August.
—————————
The Quiches‘ wedding rings
Mrs. Quiche’s Ring
Vendor: Theo’s Jewelers - Chicago, IL
Price: $2,800
Like my engagement ring, we designed my wedding band. It is a diamond eternity band on all three sides with a fine milgrain & fits flush against my engagement band and under the diamond. It’s set in white gold.
Mr. Quiche’s Ring
Vendor: Theo’s Jewelers - Chicago, IL
Price: $460
Mr. Q’s band is brushed palladium with a little ledge on each side that steps down to polished palladium. It is simple & perfect for him. Word of warning, though, the little ledge is SHARP and has scraped each of us a couple of times!
—————————
The Pineapples‘ wedding rings
Mrs. Pineapple’s Ring
Rose Gold
Vendor: Gelin Abaci, Dimend Scaasi (Chicago)
Price: $1,350
Mr. Pineapple’s Ring
Rose Gold
Price: $1,000
Our bands were quite a bit more than we had ever intended to pay, but in the end I am glad we chose the bands we did. My band had to be custom made to fit the lovely crazy shape of my ring. Mr. Pineapple’s was made to match mine in rose gold. We will have them longer than our TV that was the same price. That is my justification. :)
—————————
The Joeys‘ Wedding Rings
Miss Joey’s Ring
Sterling Silver stacking ring
Vendor: Kate Szabone
Price: $50
Mr. Joey’s Ring
Tungsten Ring 6mm Knife Design Comfort Fit
Price: $175
Mr. Joey wanted a ring that was comfortable and not flashy. A Tungsten band was highly recommended by a lot of guy friends, so he went with that. I decided to skip the wedding ring altogether since my fingers are short and two rings would make them look shorter. I did opt to buy a ring I could wear when I’m traveling since I don’t bring my e-ring with my on work trips.
—————————
The Plumerias‘ wedding rings
Mrs. Plumeria’s Ring
Price: $600
Vendor: Derco Diamonds
Mr. Plumeria’s Band
Price: $350
Vendor: Derco Diamonds
—————————
The Crab Cakes‘ wedding rings
Mrs. Crab Cake’s Ring
Two white gold and diamond u-shaped bands
Vendor: Reed’s
Price: $1000 total
Mr. Crab Cake’s Ring
White gold with claddagh embossing
Vendor: Claddagh
Price: $575
—————————
The Avocados‘ wedding rings
Mrs. Avocado’s Ring
Vendor: bddesigns on Etsy
Price: $76
Mr. Avocado’s Ring
Vendor: bddesigns on Etsy
Price: $25
Neither of us wear our weddings bands (I forget to wear my e-ring half the time), so I’m glad we didn’t spend much on them!
—————————
The Peonys‘ wedding rings
Mrs Peony’s Ring
2mm platinum & diamond eternity band
Vendor: Engagement Rings Direct
Price: $1,850
Mr Peony’s Ring
6mm 18k white gold comfort fit ring
Vendor: Engagement Rings Direct
Price: $365
We purchased our rings from the same jeweler where Mr Peony got my e-ring. I was getting my e-ring reset and decided to make a matching wedding band at the same time.
I’m loving the Real Bee Budgets, and this was one of my favorites - so cool to see the range, the thought, and ideas behind this element of the wedding.
It was really fun to see all the different rings, styles, prices, etc. I am surprised that so few featured bee couples got matching wedding bands. I know for us it was a must due to the symbolism. Although I completely understand why others choose to get differently styled rings.
Pretty pretty sparkles! =)
I love seeing that you can get a beautiful ring for under $100! Our ring budget is low ($200), and we’ve been struggling — or we were, when we looked at traditional “wedding” stores. Visit the kiosks in the mall (like Metalsmiths), and suddenly everything’s A LOT cheaper!
It’s so great to see the individuals’ personality shine through each of these wedding bands! I never truly thought a band was more than some metal with possibly a few stones thrown in for good measure. You’ve got the wheels turnin’ in my mind now…more please!!
Holy Cow! Some of these rings are half of our wedding budget! But they are gorgeous and well worth the money.
And kudos to the Pineapples for rose gold…I’m on the fence between doing white or rose (leaning heavily towards the rose side).
@snake: I’m surprised by that too. But when it comes down to it, I think that a lot of ladies are getting more unique rings than in generations past, and the men aren’t sure they want rings that are as ‘delicate’ (girlie) as the ladies. For what it’s worth, Mr. MJ decided to go with more white gold on his ring than yellow, because the jeweler felt it would complement my white gold setting.
Oh and hahaha pineapple - your justification about the cost of your TV? We did that too. “Hey we had no problem spending X amount on the TV and I doubt we’ll even HAVE that in 5-10 years!”
