I speak Italian and love pasta. My real passion is the outdoors, though. When I'm not at work, I'm snowboarding, hiking with my two dogs, mountain biking, surfing, cross-country-skiing, or boating New Mexico's rivers. About Mrs. Cowboy Boot

After not finding The Perfect One online or through a friend who’s a jeweler, I decided I would hit up some consignment shops while home in Los Angeles a few weeks back. I’d seen some online consignment shops by Google “Estate Wedding Bands” or “Estate Rings”. Stores like Sylvia’s Antiques, Antique Jewelry Mall, Lang Antique & Estate Jewelry, and many others popped up, but none had anything I liked within my price range (reminder: it’s $300 for my ring and $100 for Mr. CB’s).

My first inkling was to go to a store called The Paper Bag Princess in Los Angeles which has consignment wedding dresses, shoes, clutches, jewelry. You could get outfitted for your whole wedding right there. But, before I ventured in there, I stopped by a consignment shop in San Luis Obispo (while visiting a friend). It was called Hamilton Estate Jewelry.

The cool thing about this shop is that they price the items when they come in. So, say a ring came in at some point in the ’80s, when the price of platinum was low. No matter that the price of platinum is high now, the ring still costs what it did 20 years ago.

I found a ring there that was about the same width of my engagement ring. It was platinum, one-fifteenth of a carat in full, round cut G-color diamonds. Price? $490 plus tax.

I liked it, but the fact that it was the same width as my engagement ring made it a little bulky. I’m pretty petite and need a thin band.

I didn’t find anything I liked at Paper Bag Princess but they referred me to a store called Wanna Buy A Watch? on Melrose. Prior to their separate locations, these stores had been a part of a group of estate jewelry sellers in one building called the Antiquarius Center. That building burned down, scattering the vendors all over Los Angeles.

At Wanna Buy A Watch? they have some gorgeous bands. I actually fell in love with quite a few.

Did you get your ring from a consignment shop or website? If so, which store or website did you buy it from?

Both my rings came from Bluenile. They had the best prices on platinum that we could find. I did look at estate rings before we got engaged but my husband was the one who picked out the ring, so I really had no say!

That diamond and sapphire ring is perfect! Tough price tag, though.

I have heard good things about Blue Nile.

We bought my E-ring from this place that buys and sales at wholesale. My ring is valued at $10+ and we got it for just under $5k.

Let me know if you want the website… I will PM it to you. They were amazing to work with!!

We got mine from a jeweler, who had set an antique diamond in a newer setting. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy that route, though - it’s nice to have something with a bit of history and easier on the budget!

Is there any wiggle room in your budget? If you were to scrap a few things to put more into the ring? I liked the Platinum Hand Engraved Ring ($675) - the different colors seem to go nicely with your wedding theme and personality..

I know a lot of people are against this, but we got both my e-ring and wedding band and his wedding band at a pawn shop. Total for all 3? Around $400. :) You can find just about any size, cut, shape and setting you want if you’re willing to visit a few shops.

I saw this Etsy shop and thought of you. The prices look great and you might be able to get something custom designed.

Try Gordon Clark engraved rings, the prices aren’t too bad and the rings are beautiful!

I’m strongly considering getting mine from a seller on Etsy. Mrs Candy Corn bought her’s from Etsy and I believe Avo did too.

If you’re in LA, have you been to the jewelry district? It’s open to the public… we got our bands there. Together, both our bands were $430. Well, this was three years ago and I’m not sure how much prices have gone up but… I’d check it out. It’s a little overwhelming but since you have something very specific in mind, it shouldn’t be too bad.

I have a half eternity micro pave band and my husband has a carved Benchmark comfort fit band.

Email me if you’d like to know the exact store we went to. ^_^

My e-ring came from a pawn shop. My husband didn’t tell me until later, he was afraid that I would be horrified! I love my ring though. It’s a very unique setting and at 1/2 a carat and colorless it’s more than he could have afforded otherwise. Admittedly I don’t broadcast that info because I don’t want the look of shock that might come. But no one would ever know. In fact if he hadn’t of said something I wouldn’t have known either.

If you’re ever in San Francisco go see Vance at Tigges Jewlers in San Francisco. He was a miracle worker considering my “must-haves” and limited budget.

This one is similar to the diamond and sapphire one you found but for a 1/3 of the price.

@Miss Snowflake: I’m not against pawn shops!

We found my set on craigslist. We can’t really afford anything fancy right now, so we got them (looked brand-new to me!) for $100. Spend $100 now, upgrade later for me.

Miss CB,

I think your dress may have been selected for this year’s Today Show bride!

I have nothing useful to say, but did you know that The Paper Bag Princess is the name of an awesome children’s book? I wonder if it is a coincidence.

We found both my e-ring and wedding band on Rokstok.com (I know, I was hesitant about the name at first too). I had found a Tacori ring that I loved at our local jeweler, but they weren’t really willing to work within our price range to find a diamond. Rokstok sold the setting that I loved and was happy to work with my fiance to find the perfect diamond to go in it. So I got the exact ring that I wanted at the price that my fiance wanted!
