I was born and raised in a small East Texas town, but I'm no country girl! I'm obsessed with British accents, fantasy (including Harry Potter, of course), and classic rock. My fiance and I consider ourselves both music and beer snobs--but every once in awhile we love to hear a crappy band and drink a cheap brew or two. Gimme Some Color!

July 7th, 2009 @ 12:51 pm by Mrs. Mouse

Well, hive, I took the plunge and dyed my hair! I went to my stylist for a trim and shape-up (gotta keep growing out those awkward pieces on the sides of my bangs), and she suggested I go ahead and do a trial run of the color I want my hair for the wedding. I was ready for a change, so I said, “Sure!”

Here’s a picture of my “before” hair. It’s actually pretty close to my natural color, although I dyed it from a box last November. It was a lot redder right after I dyed it, but it mellowed out to this brown with reddish undertones.

Gimme Some Color! : wedding hair Dscn001 What you can’t really tell from this picture is that I had about an inch and a half of roots showing. Nothing super noticeable, but I didn’t want that for our wedding.

Here’s the “after” picture. It looks very dark here, but it’s going to fade out to a chocolate brown. The old highlights I’ve been covering up for years will fade a little more, adding some dimension.

I’m wearing the head wrap to protect my new color from that mean old sun! Note to self: buy hair product with SPF. (Or would that be HPF?)

Here’s a picture from four days (and one shampoo) after my color treatment. I think it’s already fading a bit. See how much shinier and healthier it looks? No more highlights or box dyes for this mouse! They make my hair so brittle and dry.

I love my new color. I tend to get bored with the same thing over and over, so I like to mix it up. And I think it’s “normal” enough that I won’t cringe when looking back on wedding photos years later.

Are you planning on making any drastic changes to your hair before your wedding?

I’ve been a bottle red head for years, and can’t decide if I should go back to my natural color (dark dirty blonde, I think!), or stick with the strawberry blonde I have going on now… it’s a tough call!

Your hair looks great! Shiny and nice :)

I love it - you’re so cute. (I have bangs, too. I feel like it’s a club.)

Dramatic or special changes . . . I doubt it. If anything, my hair will be in a slightly different style, but nothing major. I don’t dye my hair because it’s already very dark. People ask me all the time if I dye it, including hair stylists . . . When I was a teenager, I used to want a different color, but my hair would never take it. I’ve learned to love my naturally dark hair color. And, I want to enjoy it before the grays take over in my mid thirties (hereditary gray hair syndrome!).

Your hair definitely looks healthier in picture 3 than in picture 2.

PS: It would still be SPF (sun protection factor).

Miss Mouse… we are on the same wave length! I think it is SUPER COOL you changed it up!!
I just posted a board about what color to dye your hair for the big day. I think I am going back to a more natural look for the big day.

I love the new color!
I’m not sure what I’ll do about my hair for the big day, but I’m not against anything crazy. FI loved my fire engine red/platinum blonde streaks but I’m not sure if he’ll love it for our wedding. :(
