Makeup My Mind

July 7th, 2009 @ 4:39 pm by Mrs. Stiletto

I’m not a big makeup wearer (shh… I went all winter long without wearing a single bit of powder or shadow to work!). On top of that, I generally get told that based on my skin tone, brown hair and blue eyes, I can pull off any shades of makeup, hair color, and clothes. While it’s nice to be a chameleon, definitive answers like “you look best in blush tones” or “never wear the color yellow” would be incredibly helpful.

I mean, I don’t want to end up looking like this:

I received great feedback on my recent hair post and think I have settled on “option D” as my inspiration. I didn’t even realize until today that this was the same picture that Mrs. Yorkie used at her trial!

It’s great having hair ideas nailed down, but there’s this whole face of mine to contend with.

I don’t have strong opinions on makeup, nor do I have celebrity inspiration or a picture in my head of what I might look like. Beyond, well, looking better. Hee. However, I really liked Miss Cowboy Boot’s recent trial. I liked the freshness of her inspiration looks and her makeup came out looking beautiful.

When I think about myself, my dress, and my overall “look” that I envision for my wedding day, I think the word sweet encompasses everything. My dress is very soft and romantic. To each her own, but to me, soft and romantic does not equal smoky eyes or bold red lips. I like the idea of “fresh”.

So, here I am -

And here’s some inspiration (the best I could do for finding pictures that were “rosy” and “fresh”):

Okay, so maybe I could do without the blue eyeliner on that last one. But you get the idea. So I’ll take these ideas along with me when I do my hair and makeup trial… whenever that might be!

Where do you go for great makeup inspiration?

My first suggestion is to decide on what part of your face you want to enhance, and focus on inspirations for that. I love my big eyes and so most of my make up when there.

i didnt think i wanted a makeup artist, butttt

i was in a wedding last week and fell in love with the artist! she looked at me and knew what would work well. so i was able to try it out for a day, have pics, and see how it looked.

totally recommend just letting someone else compliment your gorgeous face! its their job :-)

i’m not a huge makeup wearer either. like none at all. for my wedding, i just looked at my sister. she wears a lot more make up than me and we look so much alike that it was like test running it on myself by looking at her!

I really like the second picture! You could do gray eyeshadow instead of the blue. It would give your eyes definition without being harsh. Brown will make you look tired. (You have the same coloring as me, brown eyeliner makes my dark circles pop.)
Clinique has great ideas, look at fashion magazine that’s where I get most of my inspiration.
I just did a friends makeup for her wedding as well as the entire wedding party. So much pressure! But everyone looked good and it held all night. Thank goodness. I was worried because I put their makeup on at 9am.
You’ve got a great face it wouldn’t take much at all to get the look you want!

My MOH is a makeup artist and she always tells me I have to just remember to be super super honest on a trial. That is the most important. If you say fresh and feel like that first pic speak up, and if they are a good artist they will NOT be offended! I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

I think the second picture would look really great based on your features.

I am also a blue eyed, brunette, with a fair/medium skin tone. Generally I gravitate toward accentuating my eyes since the blue can really pop in contrast to my brown hair and since blue eyes are a recessive trait, there are fewer blued eyed people in the world, therefore it is a unique quality. In regards to makeup recommendations for our skin tone:
I love champange tones across my eye lids. Although you might want to go for a higher-quality makeup for your wedding day, Covergirl makes an eyeshawdow color called Mink ($3.99) that I wear day to day and love love love! I also apply a mocha colored powder with a wet, thin for a softer blended look (instead of a harsh eyeliner pencil) to my upper and lower lashline and my brows- Anastasia makes a lashline/brow powder compact that I love sold at Sephora (it included two tones of powder, a setting wax, and a browline highlighter). And of course mascara will finish the look…althought my hunt for the perfect mascara contiunes.

We share the same problem when it comes to wearing make-ups. I don’t commonly wear one if I can go out without them. But the last picture that you just showed looks like a good one.

I really like the pink blush on the cheeks! And try to remember, that you’ll need to wear more make-up than you normall would (or in your case, A LOT since you typically wear none). Otherwise, it won’t show up in the photos.

I thought I had too much on in my trial, but after taking some photos, it looks perfect .
