Mustached Shenanigans

July 7th, 2009 @ 5:28 pm by Mrs. Powder Puff

Has anyone else seen adorable photos of girls with fake mustaches? Photos like this one:

1

Well, I’ve fallen head over heels in love with the idea. And when I get something in my head, I MUST DO IT. So after a fruitless search for little fake mustaches for me and my bridesmaids, I decided that if no one was making these things, then I would make them for myself. There’s more than one way to skin a cat, after all!

Now, when I mentioned this idea to my mother, she looked at me like I had taken a big swig of crazy juice. But lo and behold, Martha Stewart makes a template for these bad boys. And if it’s good enough for Martha, then it’s surely good enough for me!

So for all you brides who are with me and think that this is amazingly cute, here’s what I did to make my very own mustaches on a stick.

2

First things first. I bought a package of wooden dowels at the craft store for amazingly cheap. A package of 12 of these dowels was $.99. Not too shabby.

3

I then printed off Martha Stewart’s mustache templates. I thought the “Imperial” style was the cutest, so I went with that one, but she has a couple of different styles available.

Once the mustaches were traced and cut out of black cardstock, I simply hot glue gunned them to the wooden dowels. You want to make sure that you glue the dowel to one side, so that when you hold up the mustache to your face, the stick isn’t in the middle. I chose the left side.

4

Et voila!

5

So what do you think? Would you use these as a fun little addition to your photos?

That’s hilarious, because I made moustaches on sticks for my girlfriends for Christmas last year. I couldn’t find a template, so I just made it up.

they’re also available on Etsy - already made.

A fun idea for a photobooth I think, but that first photo just looks weird to me. I guess I just think that wedding photos should be more about spontaneous fun and happiness, enjoying the day … standing in a line wearing moustaches and serious faces just doesn’t say that to me.

Those are awesome! We almost got adhesive fake mustaches as our favors, but then I found out that a friend of a friend did that a year ago. Unfortunately, because there will be some guest overlap, it would look like we didn’t think of it ourselves. But I could definitely get on board with using these just for wedding party pictures!

@lou: I’m sure Miss Powder Puff will have lots of candid/spontaneous photos, too! This is just a fun little “extra” :-) I think this would be a blast!

Oh no, I’m not saying that Miss Powder Puff’s photos wont be great … it’s just that first one specifically that I find odd. Like I say, I think it’s a great idea for photo booth style pics.

I LOVE this idea!! My girlfriends and I did this one night at a bar, and took the funniest pictures!! I told my MOH about my idea of bringing them back out at the wedding - and she gave me the same look your Mom did! I’m going forward with it anyway…but now using the dowel - great idea!!

Your picture is so great!!

I could totally see this set up for a photobooth with a bunch of other outlandish props - i.e. quirky glasses, maybe a wig or too, crazy hats, etc. I think it would be a great way to capture a little of everyone’s “crazy-side” and an awesome alternative to the traditional guest photos. : )

I could have used this at our wedding! We had one photobooth shot of a bunch of guys with crazy mustaches, so I held up my finger to try to simulate one on my face. This would have been much cuter! :)

That’s a great idea! I was just about to make my own too after seeing Mrs. Bee’s post on the wooden ones.

Also you can find stick on mustaches at DealExtreme ($2.61 with free shipping): http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.7428
