Mrs. Perfume, DC Age and Occupation: 36, Consultant (and Part-Time Professor) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 41, Consultant Engagement Date: May 13, 2008 Wedding Date: May, 2009 Venue: The Homestead, Hot Springs, Virginia About Me: I'd like to think that I'm a modern day Little Edie Beale. Only not as..."talented". More realistically, I'm a foodie who can't bake; a dancer and dilettente; an art collector with a penchant for the whimsical and subversive. I live in the city and adore the country, but not much in between. I like smart design, great craftmanship and good value. Most of all, I love the new vintage aesthetic: classic, sweet, delicate, bespoke. If I had to do it all over again, I'd go for a culinary arts degree rather than a PhD; but wouldn't trade Mr. P for the world.

1960s Vintage: The Rehearsal Dress

July 8th, 2009 @ 4:37 pm by Mrs. Perfume

Did I ever mention my rehearsal dress? The vintage one? No, not the getaway dress, but the one for the rehearsal and welcome dinner…

From top: 1, 2, 3, 4

I love the crisp, lady-like style of the ’50s and ’60s cocktail dress. Oscar de la Renta has done a great job of creating lovely clean, classic lines (as demonstrated above) throughout his career. And he continues that today in his contemporary interpretation:

However, his designs are obviously out of my budget. So, I thought, why not vintage couture? Great quality and craftsmanship, authentically 1960s, and best of all: ONE OF A KIND!

I found this cream-colored brocade beauty at Hat Feathers Vintage for an absolute steal! Check it out! It was started by Jenn, a vintage-obsessed collector!

Do you shop vintage? What are some of your favorite sites/places to visit?

Beautiful! I want a dress like that for my getaway dress! I looked for vintage style shoes for the wedding, but didn’t know exactly what I was looking for. :) I found a lot of cute shoes (and some cute dresses too, depending on what you’re looking for) at http://www.pinupgirlclothing.com/ .

Cannot wait to see your recaps. You’re one of my faves (is it bad to have faves as a Bee? lol) so I love seeing everything you post. And I love the vintage looks as well. Jackie-O and Audrey are my loves!

I am in love with pinupgirlclothing.com and with stopstaring.com. I’m doing the 1940s look so I’m trying to find something for e-pics to wear and rehearsal dinner.

Yum! Vintage dresses are so much better designed than today’s clothes sometimes, I think.

stuning dress. I have one red number that I wore for my senior photos in high school, and am dying for an excuse to wear again. I can wear red to my rehearsal, right?
