About Mrs. Cloud

So, I’ve been dreaming up our wedding since I was about four years old. I’m not kidding. I was totally the little girl with a veil (or pillowcase held on by a head band) fixed to my head regularly. Things got worse when I was 6 or 7 and a distant cousin got married. Think late ’80s/early ’90s wedding: big hair, big sleeves, lots of tulle—I loved ALL OF IT. My cousin let me be in the room when her dress was bustled, and I felt like I was really part of the action.

What I really remember though, was the cake. It was HUGE (well in relation to my size at the time, of course). Tiers of white icing held up with plastic pillars, and a colored waterfall running underneath. Yeah, you know what I’m talking about.

I guarantee the water matched the bridesmaids’ dresses. And I thought it was PERFECT!

The best part of this whole cake experience?

I got TWO pieces. Daddy Cloud slid me his, causing the sugar high of a lifetime. Needless to say, I have never met a wedding cake I didn’t get along with. Have I ever mentioned that I did a brief stint in culinary school? I would be lying if I said I didn’t go for the sole purpose of wanting to learn to bake a really good cake. I pulled a good one off once; it was a cake for 100, complete with fondant, and all for my Mummy Cloud’s 50th birthday party. But this post is NOT about me baking my own cake. It’s more about a girl with a cake infatuation for most of her life who can’t decide what in the world her cake should look like!

I have spent HOURS pouring over blogs, photographers’ sites, and especially, The Knot’s photo galleries and bios. I have found a few that I like, even love, but none that stood out and I HAD to have. If I had it my way, I would sit down with Sylvia Weinstock and let her design something one of a kind, just for us (*swoon*). But there is that little issue of a budget. Oh, and I don’t live in NYC. So here are a few that I have found that I like. I lean towards simple, I’d definitely like it to be white, and I’m not interested in a cake topper (I prefer flowers, I guess).

Love Martha. Tulips are obviously not possible in November, but I love the rest of the cake.

I love the flowers and overall style, but I’m not sure of those dots.

So yeah, I’m all over the place!

Was anyone else surprised about how hard some decisions were to make, while others were easy? I really thought the cake would be an easy one!

Firstly, I had clipped the tulip cake picture for inspiration myself! Great minds think alike! Yes I’m all over the place or should I say was. I had about 5 cakes I found online that I liked. I printed the pictures off and took them to my cake lady. She and I along with my mom designed my cake. I’m super excited to have that decision behind me. I think if you took these pictures to your cake person you might be able to comine the elements together and get you a cake you LOVE!
Good luck! :)

I have been leaning towards doing three, two tier cakes since I can’t decide.
I LOVE the tulip cake and I am sure you can find a flower that would work just as well.
Can’t wait to see what you decide on!!

We aren’t doing cake—we are doing cheesecake :) Still trying to figure out how to decorate the outside of the cheesecake so it doesn’t look only like the creamy colored cheesecake with the brown crust for the photos.

That tulip cake is adorable by the way!! I don’t get married for another 14 months–so I’m sure something will change for my PLAN.

I don’t think we’re going to have a cake. I think we’re going to go the cupcake route instead. It’s muchhhh cheaper. :)

I’m loving that black and red cake! If I had to pick one that made me think of you, it would be that one!

When I first started thinking about my cake, I wanted something fancy and intricate with lots of color. Now I just want a simple, almost homemade-looking cake that screams the south!

Its so funny that you say you only want white now because that is exactly how I feel. As a former fine art student I love color, design and I’m almost always over-the-top. But I too came to the conclusion that unless Slyvia (or the like) could make me a fabulous cake sculpture I just want something simple. And what I really care about is that it tastes super YUMMY!

That 80’s cake is fab!!!

When it came to the cake….. I wanted everything! I was able to find at least 5 cakes that I LOVED. I then selected one thing from each and put it into my cake. It doesn’t hurt that my mom is a professional baker….

The cake is such a hard choice if you are a cake lover! We have the shape and flavors down but nothing about the decor decided.

I think simple with flowers is lovely. That’s what I was leaning towards until I found my ribbon cake inspiration!

Ugh, SO MANY of the simple decisions have been so hard! Colour scheme, cake, everything!

Not that I’m complaining! =) I like spending time planning with my fiance, and we’ve got 3 years yet, so bring it on!

This has nothing to do with cake, but I have to tell you, Miss Cloud–I LOVE hearing about another lifelong wedding enthusiast! I am the only girl in my circle of friends who has always LOVED WEDDINGS. I feel like I always see/read about women in blogs and magazines who are like, “oh, I had never even considered having a wedding, but then we got engaged, and I just effortlessly stumbled into this!” Nope, not me. My vision has been evolving since I was five.

Cake was one of the easier ones for us. In fact, it was hubby’s fact since it involved taste-testing. For him, it was the taste (check). For me, it was about something that was not trendy (check) enough for me to regret when I look back on it. Seeing that I started planning my wedding since I was 8 or so, my style, seasons, and other plans definitely changed several times.

@carrie.a.s.b: I have also loved weddings for some time. But I still feel like getting engaged did not prepare me for all of the trials, decisions, and antics that come along with the ring! ;)
