I'm from Chicago, he's from NYC, and we both miss public transit and great pizza. We have an adorable muppet dog called Paco. I'm part hippie with a healthy dash of hip hop superstar, have excessive empathy for animals, and have not one, but two bionic eyes (long story). We're broke and it ain't no joke. It can't stop us from planning the bold and whimsical wedding of our dreams, but we've had to get pretty creative to make it work, yo!

So Fun It Should Be Illegal

July 8th, 2009 @ 12:26 pm by Mrs. Meatball

Looking for a fun bachelorette alternative, or a great anniversary date? I’ve got your poison, right here…

Last year we were in NYC for Mr. M’s birthday, and partook in the experience that is Accomplice: The Show. This interactive scavenger hunt game/theatre/tour of the city was one of my most memorable NY experiences of all time. Mysterious, silly, quirky, sexy and most of all, FUN. We basically got to pretend to be undercover “accomplices” to a mob heist/getaway… we met up with informants, delivered “packages”, and did fun detective work to get us from drop point to drop point.

If you liked Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?, then this will tickle your inner detective fancy juuuuust right. Heck, we did it in a torrential deluge of rain and still had the time of our lives. See?

Yes, we are wearing trash bags that we stole from NYC public trash bins. No shame.

Thus, I was so thrilled to get an email announcing that not only did they recently start up an Accomplice: Hollywood experience, but that they’re offering a recession special of $40/ticket!

Now, I know you’re all, “$40? That’s a special price?!?” But know this: the whole shebang normally costs $65. It lasts a 2.5 hours, and includes a few delightful stops along the way that involve light food and beverages of the adult kind, as well as a good afternoon’s worth of walk-ercise and loads of fun characters to interact with. It’s worth. every. penny.

I kissed a frog on the way to deliver it to an informant!

This type of experience just screams bachelorette party to me. What could be better than a bunch of rambunctious women combing the town, aiding and abetting clandestine criminals? I mean, really. Stupid fun. Just don’t get caught by the fuzz, or you’ll be sleeping with the fishes, yo. I wish my birthday was next week so I could gather a crew and do it here. I can’t wait to see what the Hollywood experience has to offer, but I promise to report back when I finally find out.

Accomplice has 2 shows in NYC, and one in LA - but their site says to stay tuned for San Fran, Las Vegas and London locations. Fun, franchised! PS: Use discount code “SAMMY” when purchasing - the discount is good through July 14.

Did you participate in a scavenger hunt or similar organized activity for a bachelorette party?

maybe I have been in NYC too long, but even at 65 bucks that seems like a good deal.

I emailed my mom about this when Mrs. Bee posted about it a few weeks ago.

My mom, aunt, and some younger cousins want to be in on the bachelorette party, but don’t want to (or can’t) do the out til 3 am bar hopping that i’m sure we’ll be doing. I thought this was a great altenative. We could all do this during the day, then whoever wants to go out later could stay, and anyone else can go home. Win-win!

Thanks for the great tip! Your posts are so funny and some of my favorites! I love how you guys are just being yourselves, not trying to be some perfect (read boring) picturesque couple. It is so refreshing!

This looks like SO MUCH FUN! If I hadn’t already planned my Bachlorette in Santa Barbara I would totally do this! Maybe I can talk my friend into doing it for her 30th birthday… hmmmmm

HA! I’ve been stalking this site for months and have never posted but I read “Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?” and said out loud- “she has to be exactly my age” and sho’ nuff, I rolled over that Meatball avatar and we could be twins! Um, LOVED that show (I even had the computer game… loo-ser)! Thanks for recommending Accomplice. I’ve heard of it but will now absolutely try it.
