Confession: Another reason I wanted to get married on July 4th was because I wanted to be the same age as Mr Frenchie when we got married.
Back when I used to plan out my life, I planned to get married when I was 26. That way, Sister Frenchie would be 21 and be able to participate in all the bachelorette activities. Good reason, right? Well, at 26 I broke up with my a$$hole ex-boyfriend and met the love of my life, Mr Frenchie.
I knew I wasn’t getting married at 26, but I knew he was the man I was going to marry.
Am I alone? Is anyone else crazy about age like I am?

I’m a “puma” — a mini cougar (cuz, I mean, come on…it’s less than a four month difference!).

OMG, I am the exact same! I am 4 weeks older than my man (In fact, his birthday is in 2 weeks, so right now I am older!). He usually spends the 4 weeks in between calling me a hag… that will only be cute for so long. We are planning on an early July wedding in 2011, which means I will be older than him when we get married.
It really is a funny feeling, even though it totally isn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of things… I guess in 50 years we will enjoy being with a younger man for that little while

LOL, everyone teases us for the opposite reason; I am 25 and FH is 30; he proposed this February, and we both had bdays in April, so it seems like our engagement is longer than it is for that timing reason. So, in my long roundabout way of answering, no, you’re not the only one ‘crazy’ about age… =)

Yes! For the next few weeks, the Mr. will be 24 while I’m 26. I cannot wait until he’s 25! I know it doesn’t make a difference to anyone, but 25 and 26 doesn’t sound as bad as 24 and 26.

I don’t know about California… but in New Jersey, your age DOES go on your marriage certificate 
I’ve never thought about it, but I am three months older than my fiance - but when we get married (18 days before my birthday!), we will be the same age.
Isn’t it exciting to think that you’re currently the age that you’re going to get married at??
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Miss Frenchie!!! My Birthday is in January and Mr. Jewell’s is in September, so I’m 9 months older… so when we get married next summer I’ll be 28 & he’ll be 27. It used to bother me, but it seems like all of my friends (actually all but 1) who have gotten married in the last few years or are engaged now, the bride is older (at least by a few days) than her groom! Be proud that we’re part of the cougar club!
I’m 6 months older then the FH… and when we get married I will be the “one year older” looking one. He always calls me his cougar and tells people I like younger men… I just laugh, doesn’t really bother me much.
It doesn’t matter anyways… A four month difference is not a difference at all. My cousin eloped when she was 18 to a 26 year old guy. 15 years later, they are still happily and crazily married.

We’re 11 years apart, so when people throw around the “C” word (aka cougar) in reference to me, I can get a bit sensitive.
I wanted to get married in June so that it would be 10 years 11 months, but work schedules wouldn’t allow it…
But honestly, your age difference is nothing. Try being me on this issue! Luckily, we’ve had 7 years to come to terms with and hash out all the age gap issues. That’s a blog in it’s own right, trust me!
And no, I don’t consider myself a cougar or puma or anything else. I never pursued fiance even for a second!
We are getting married between our birthdays so the age difference feels a little larger… he turns 28 March 16, we get married March 20, I turn 25 April 2. So it *looks like 4 years when really we’re 3 years apart. It doesn’t bother me though, but I think the otehr way around would! I agree, it’s just kind of weird!
(Meaning it is a weird feeling, not that it’s weird to be older or younger!!!!)

Haha, you guys are so cute! Age ain’t nothin’ but a number! Then again, I am 5 and a half years younger than the dude. Maybe I’d feel differently if our ages were reversed!

My fiance is 10 years older and there have been some age issues but nothing we can’t laugh at. I like to remind him I was in 2nd grade when he graduated from HS. Both of our sets of parents had huge age gaps (mine were 12 years apart and his were 20!). They both have had long prosperous marriages so I’m not so sure age is anything more than a number!

I wanted to be married before I turned 30. My 30th birthday was in May, and our wedding is in October. With an 18 month engagement, I could have done it, but whatever.
My sister is 6 months older than her husband, and their wedding was 1 month before her birthday, so they were the same age.
Happy B-day!!! We had our wedding smack in the middle of our birthday’s too!! And I found turning 29 easy, it’s turning 30 that has turned me into a mean old lady.

I’ll be 29 when we get married, and fiance will be 27… Just a month shy of him turning 28. I’m actually 1 year and 7months older than him. Definitely cougarrific

Wow, I was exactly the same way. My birthday was in June, his is in August, so I’m a little older than him. We got married in May so that we were the same age! If we couldn’t do May, we were waiting until September!

I have a weird thing about my age and being married, but since Mr. S is older we don’t have the cougar thing going on.
Thank you for writing this post! My fiance and I are currently both 24. I will turn 25 a month before our wedding rolls around while he won’t be 25 until two months after. I’m only about 3 months older than him, but it does bother me a little bit. I have no idea why, it doesn’t really matter, but it still bugs me that I’m older than he is. When people ask us how old we were when we got married I’m going to feel like an old woman when I say I was older than him (even if it was only for a couple of months). Isn’t is strange, the things we freak out over?

FI is almost 8 years older than I am, and it really doesn’t bother me too much.
What bothers me is when people make assumptions based on our age difference. Like, automatically assuming that he’s been married before.

i’m also 9 months older than my bf, though we have a good three months when we’re the same age. though i don’t have an issue with our miniscule age gap. if anything he acts like the older one of the duo!
but that happens easily when the actual older person relishes in her inner kiddie goof ball. man it feels great to be forever young. lol

It bugs me, too. =( I’m half a year older than my fiance, and EVERYONE bugs us about it.
I would much prefer to get married when we’re the same age just because…but, alas, that would NOT be possible if we wanted an outdoor wedding, since his birthday’s at the end of October, and mine’s at the end of April, and we live in central Alberta.
Most of the time I try not to think about it. *sigh* But it’s hard, sometimes, when people keep bringing it up.

Mr KE is 11 months younger than me. The one month we’re the same age he just likes to say, no no you’re still older! But, I totally have a couple friends who like to tell me I robbed the cradle & am a cougar too! haha

We’re just a bit off, and I never thought about it until now! We got married a week before my birthday, which would have made us both 28 when we got married. Instead, on the marriage certificate it looks like he’s robbing the cradle:)
Haha, my hubby is TWO years younger than I am! That doesn’t bother me…I will admit I was a bit keen to get married before I turned 30, though. I didn’t want to be thirty-something marrying a twenty-something toyboy :P. We got married 5 months before my thirtieth birthday…phew!
LoL…I can totally relate. I am a year and 9 months older than Mr. Sushi (not that I’m counting or anything). I made sure that we got married at a time where we were only 1 year apart in age, rather than 2 years apart in age. Lame, I know.

I do not relate to your post, because Mr. CC is 6 years older than I am. I like to tease him by saying things like “oh, you graduated high school in 1995? I was in the third grade.” That’s mean, isn’t it?
Lol, yes, I am a cougar too, I guess … My fiance is one year and two months younger than me … My brother is 23 months younger than me, but there is a three month period of time every year where he and my fiance are the same age … Yeah, that really creeped me out at first. But love knows no age, right?

I’m 1,1,1 (1 year, 1 month, & 1 day) older than the husband and it bothered me quite a bit at first. especially that 1 month and 1 day when I’m 2 years old than him, now it doesn’t so much. I am glad in GA our ages aren’t on the marriage license though

your story is like my grandparents! they’re six weeks apart, she’s older, and they got married in between. they had their 50th party last month and my grandpa made sure to mention in his little “thank you” talk that she was the older one. she replied that if she knew then what she knows now, she would have waited until after his birthday! he’s never let her forget that one!

This post made me so happy! We are picking our date and I was at first demanding that it had to be between September and February so we’d be the same age…but at this point I’m thinking a spring date might be better…who knows what we will do!
This post made me laugh. I’m 32 and I’m secretly happy that my fiance will finally join me in the 30’s by turning 30 two weeks before our wedding. He’s younger than my younger brother, which really freaks me out when I think about it. Geesh, I feel silly writing that!

cougar, haha! this has been a hot topic among my friends recently.
OK - first off, my age IS on my marriage license and second, there’s one month and 6 days between us, and Mr. B does the exact same thing!!!!! He makes comments about how old I am in those 36 days just to tease me!!! But we got the license just two days after I turned 31 and his age still shows as 30 (though his birthday will actually happen before the wedding and we’ll be the same age!) Long story short, yes, it will always be there, but you know, I’m taking him “for better or worse” so it’ll all work out. Plus, on my birthday he rolled over and said “hello to the most beautiful 31 year old I know!” Awww…

I’m a little bit weird about the birthday thing. I always thought 23 was a good minimum age to get married, and we got engaged at 22 so it seemed perfect. Our date was set for October and his birthday is July, mine’s September. All was right with the world until we decided to do the getting married part early and have the reception in October. Now I’ll only be 22! But it’s silly and not a big deal.

His birthday is in June and mine is in October, but he’ll be a week away from 25 when we get married and I’ll still be 22. So I guess I’m glad that we are having our wedding before his birthday since we really are closer to 2 years apart than 3!
Ha ha, I just read this post, and it reminds me of my parents. Mom is 28 days older than Dad. BUT, they were born under different presidents, and hers was FDR which sounds kind of ancient. So he never lets her forget it!
