Mrs. Candy Corn, Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 24, Senior Editor/Writer & Freelance Illustrator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Inventory Manager for a Music Publisher Engagement Date: September 1, 2004 Wedding Date: October, 2008 Blogging Since: May 6, 2008 Venue: Pennsylvania Museum of Archaelogy and Anthropology About Me: I enjoy people watching (especially in New Jersey malls), obsessive collecting, drooling over contemporary art, browsing flea markets for vintage finds and eating an absurd amount of cheese. In my Philadelphia abode, I create mixed media artwork and one-of-a-kind home accessories in the company of my farmer-tanned husband, our Westiepoo (Betty White), our three rabbits (Cadbury, Willie Nelson and Applesauce) and our two frisky chinchillas (Ethel Funk and Maude).
About candycorn

For our ceremony reading, Mr. Candy Corn and I agreed on a popular children’s book, “I Like You” by Sandol Stoddard Warburg. The obvious choice was to ask my brother to read, since we are so close and I wanted him to be involved in the ceremony in some way. His theater background certainly helped with capturing our guests’ attention. I got the giggles part way through from complete and utter nervousness, but tried to mask it by squeezing Mr. Candy Corn’s hand for dear life.

I like you and I know why.

When I say something funny, you laugh.
I think I’m funny and you think I’m funny too.
Hah-hah!
You know how to be silly,
That’s why I like you.
I never met anybody sillier than me til I met you.
I like you because you know when it’s time to stop being silly.
Maybe day after tomorrow,
Maybe never.

If you go away, then I go away too,
or if I stay home, you send me a postcard.
You don’t just say, “Well, see you around sometime, bye.

I like you a lot because of that.

If I go away, I send you a postcard too.
And I like you because if we go away together,
And if we are in Grand Central Station,
And if I get lost,
Then you are the one that is yelling for me
.

And I like you because when I am feeling sad,
You don’t always cheer me up right away.
Sometimes it is better to be sad.
You can’t stand the others being so googly and gaggly every single minute.
You want to think about things.
It takes time.

I like you because if I am mad at you,
Then you are mad at me too.
(It’s awful when the other person isn’t.
They are so nice and hoo-hoo you could just about punch them in the nose
.)

I like you because if I think I am going to throw up,
then you are really sorry.
You don’t just pretend you are busy looking at the birdies and all that.
You say, maybe it was something you ate.
You say, the same thing happened to me one time.
And the same thing did
.

344941603

If you find two four-leaf clovers, you give me one.
If I find four, I give you two.
If we only find three, we keep on looking.
Sometimes we have good luck, and sometimes we don’t
.

If I break my arm, and if you break your arm too,
Then it’s fun to have a broken arm.
I tell you about mine, you tell me about yours.
We are both sorry.
We write our names and draw pictures.
We show everybody and they wish they had a broken arm too.

I like you because I don’t know why but…
Everything that happens is nicer with you.
I can’t remember when I didn’t like you.
It must have been lonesome then.

I like you because because because…
I forget why I like you but I do.
So many reasons.
On the 4th of July I like you because it’s the 4th of July.
On the fifth of July, I like you too.
If you and I had some drums and some horns and some horses…
If we had some hats and some flags and some fire engines…
We could be a HOLIDAY!
We could be a CELEBRATION!
We could be a WHOLE PARADE!
(See what I mean?)

344941702

Even if it was the 999th of July…
Even if it was August…
Even if it was way down at the bottom of November…
Even if it was no place particular in January…
I would go on choosing you.
And you would go on choosing me.
Over and over again.
That’s how it would happen every time.
I don’t know why…
I guess I don’t know why I really like you.
Why do I like you?
I guess I just… like you.
I guess I just like you because I like you.

Oh my gosh SO cute!

Several years ago, I bought Mr. Bruschetta the children’s book “Guess How Much I Love You?”.

Such a sweet, simple, innocent way of conveying feelings!

Awww… I hadn’t heard of this book, but I really like it! Super sweet!

@Miss Bruschetta: I bought “Guess How Much I Love You?” for Mr. T a couple of years ago for his birthday too! Since his birthday is 2 weeks before mine, on my birthday that year, he reciprocated by buying me an even bigger version of the book!

Oh my gosh, I *love* that book!! I gave it to my fiance for our one-year dating anniversary, and we still quote it to each other four years later. What a great idea for a ceremony!

Check out this photo of cake toppers I found using the book. Too cute!

We’re using this for our reading. Mrs. Candy Corn, did you use the whole book? We’re concerned it might be too long. We’re also thinking about dividing it up among friends, but not telling them that they are part of a large group reading one book.

Too cute! We did “Falling in Love is Like Owning a Dog” by Taylor Mills. Very appropriate, since everyone thinks we’re a little bit batshit crazy for having so many animals.

Too adorable. :)

So sweet! I love that you had a non-traditional reading. I bought this book for my guy on Valentine’s day. Our favorite is the goofus on the roofus part. :)

I bought that book for my now-husband as a present a few years ago (when he was just my boyfriend) and we used it in our wedding ceremony just a couple weeks ago! We actually read it ourselves, going back and forth (we did most but not all of the book). I was surprised I was able to get though that much talking–I was a fountain through the entire thing–I started crying before I even made it up the aisle! But anyway… the book was great, everyone loved it and kept asking about it!!

i gave this book to my boyfriend a few years ago, because one of the lines accurately described a silly bit that we would do and took it to a much deeper level:

“if i pretend i am drowning,
you pretend you are saving me.”

such a terrific idea to use it for your lovely wedding, mrs. candy corn.

LOVE IT! I might steal if for our big day :) Ever since we first started dating I get really serious like I did something bad, and then I make the puppy face and say “i like you.” sillly, yes. childish, yes. but it is just one of “our” things.

I love that book! I bought it for my fiance, my then boyfriend, for our first valentine’s day together. It was perfect because it doesn’t use the word love, and we hadn’t said I love you yet. Although it doesn’t use the word love it really does imply it, but since it’s written from a child’s point of view, they wouldn’t know to call it love! I love how the book is so innocent but makes complete sense. That is how it should be when you love someone.

We used allllmost the whole book, but took out a few sections that didn’t really move us as much. It went along a lot faster than I thought, since it is a lot of text.
