Putting Our Stamp on Things

July 9th, 2009 @ 2:15 pm by Mrs. Deviled Egg

As Mr. Deviled Egg and I move through the home purchasing process, it’s a given that I am getting increasingly excited about owning a place we will call our home. I think most of my excitement comes from finally having a place where I… er, we… can do whatever we want as far as painting and decorating. We can really make this place ours!

I’m also excited over the little things that come with home ownership. One little thing is that we will have an address. No, having an address isn’t anything new to me and no, I haven’t been living out of my car for a few years. I’m excited that we will have a permanent address. All through college my address changed yearly. My mom would buy me cute address labels only to have most of them go to waste at the end of the year when I got new address in the fall. When our wedding was up and coming, our living situation was up in the air, leaving us with no permanent address to be found.

Now, as we embark on this new adventure in a new home, I’m excited that I get to order something like this:

address stamp 1

A custom address stamp, like this one from Etsy seller lovetocreatestamps.

Cute, huh? I’ve decided to order one, but I’m having such a hard time deciding on which design. Am I a dork for getting excited over having something that says, “Mr. and Mrs. Deviled Egg, 123 New Home Street, Our City, Pennsylvania 12345,” especially if that something will probably be used mostly on bills? Dork or not, I think it’s fun is just seeing my married name on stuff. :-) If anything, it may make me a little more excited to send out the bills, mail out birthday cards, or get some motivation for a project I’ve been trying to finish up.

I’m trying to think up ways to use an address stamp for more than just paying bills. I may have to use it to make some “we have a new home” postcards once we are settled in, or to put a twist on the idea of a calling card by making address cards to pass out to family, friends, or anyone new I meet and want to keep in touch with.

Then, of course, I got to thinking that a stamp like this would make an awesome gift for a newlywed couple or as a housewarming present. Heck, I think they’d make great gifts for anyone who’s settled in at their residence.

Okay, so maybe the man of the household probably wouldn’t be too jazzed over it, but I think it would still make a unique, yet practical gift!

And also, in the shop, there are cute stamp designs for marking your territory on items you’ve created.

address stamp 3

What a great way to let all the people at your wedding know it was you who slaved over those menu cards, programs, favors and more!

Are you thinking of getting any personalized items to showcase your married name or a new address?

I agree that something personalized like that makes a great gift for newlyweds or new homeowner, etc. I actually just ordered an address stamp this week from Rubber Stamp Press on Etsy. I wanted something a little different so I went with their ‘Olivia’ stamp which has a bicycle design. I’m strangely excited about it!

I really want one of these, too! Just have to figure out how to include our names since we’re still going to have different last names after we get married. Hmm.
