Confessions of a Plan-A-Holic…

July 10th, 2009 @ 5:15 pm by Mrs. Gloss

Hi my name is Miss Gloss and I am a plan-a-holic.

I have to think through every detail, and understand every ounce of how my vision will come together before I can fully commit to a plan.

One of the benefits of having a tent wedding is that I get a blank slate. I don’t have to buy into anyone else’s idea of decor, I can do whatever I want—make my own space. (Believe me, a tented wedding was no accident!)

I recently came up with a few diagrams to help explain my concept for our ’space’ and so our vendors would know where they are expected to set up.

Diagram 1 : the tablescape (click on any image to make larger)

Diagram 2: the floor plan

Diagram 3: the ceiling planDid you/will you create detailed diagrams of your plans to ensure your day comes out exactly as you envisioned it?

I am wishing I had. I did make wedding weekend packets- 14 pages! Apparently we answered questions people never thought to ask!

I did this too! I would sketch out (on any paper, at any time) “visions” that come up in my head. I’d create a Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C for those just-in-case-it-doesn’t-work ideas. I did this when choosing my classes in college too.. :P

I’m actually trying to do something similar right now. Sadly, our venue is more than 5 hours from my present location, I am without a car, and it’s a family campsite so there is no one to call about it. On top of that, we are getting married on civic weekend, NEXT year and tents are already booked.

But if I do magically end up with a tented wedding as well (I can pray right?) then I will have diagrams as well. I’ll actually probably have them anyways.

Should we start a Plan-a-holics Anonymous?

o.m.g.! This is a whole new level of organized! I could have used a bit of your plan-a-holism when before my wedding!

HAHAHA I’m so glad I’m not the only one who does this! I’ve Photoshopped tablescapes and how I want our DIY centerpieces to look. I took a picture of inside the reception hall and Photoshopped it so that my Mom and FMIL know EXACTLY how I want it to look when they help decorate… I’m a total plan-a-holic!

Hells yeah…those are great! :) I totally did a CAD drawing of my reception space too (I’m an Interior Designer). It’s good since CAD is kinda relaxing!

I’m a plan-aholic too! I totally used CAD and ppt. to direct my wedding planner to my “exact” vision of the place.

*drools over organization* Sigh. Sometimes I wish that I was having a strict floor plan just so that I could make pretty diagrams like this…. Mm, colour coding…it makes my OCD happy….

Wow, Gloss, I didn’t know you were just like me in that aspect. I am already drawing up exactly how the caterer needs to set up my escort boxes - they are going to be calling me Bridezilla under their breath.

@Miss Bear Cub: @Miss Sapphire: I used a program called AutoCAD (its an architectural program) and then colored them in Illustrator to be pretty of course :)
@MrsWoohoo: I did that for my classes too :)
@365: Of course! and from the sounds of things we might have a few other members too :)
@Julie: They will be real birch trees, but they are no longer ‘alive’. We cut them down right after the winter so there wouldn’t be any leaves and will string white christmas lights on them.

@Miss Gloss: I can’t figure out how to PM you, so I suppose I’ll just ask you this here: Would you be interested in selling your lanterns to me after your wedding is over?
