Kitten Girls' Weekend: Scheduling FAIL : wedding bachelorette party 09319 1

Hmm, not exactly the sort of bachelorette party entertainment I had in mind…
Source

A few weeks before our wedding, Mr. K and I had our bachelor/bachelorette parties. Mr. K and his friends rented a lake house in the nearby town of New Braunfels while I had a Girls’ Weekend in Austin– my second bridal shower and bachelorette party! I selected a specific weekend in March because it was during my Spring Break, after some major law school assignments were due. And after I determined the date, my lovely friends stepped in to organize the festivities.

It wasn’t until a few weeks before the party that I realized that my bachelorette party was going to be during this little thing called the South By Southwest Festival (SXSW)! Oh. Wow. I somehow managed to schedule my party to take place during Austin’s most crowded, crazy weekend of the year! A time when parking is scarce, the streets are flooded with drunken revelers, and downtown restaurant reservations are nearly impossible to come by! Not to mention the fact that many of the fine establishments we were planning on visiting were hosting concerts and not open to the general public! Major party planning FAIL, Miss Kitten!

So, my only contribution to the bachelorette party planning was picking the most difficult day of the year to have the party. :)

Have you been responsible for any wedding-related blunders? Come on, fess up!

Good Job :) I picked the most expensive hotel in Santa Barbara for my bachlorette weekend- d’oh! But we’ve since changed hotels.

Ha, I’ve made that mistake too! I once scheduled a fundraising dinner during SXSW week. Not only is it always during UT’s spring break, but it also happened to be St Patrick’s Day. Whoops!

See, if it were me, I would have scheduled it for that week! I went to SXSW two years ago and had a total blast. I stayed sober most of the time. :)

Don’t get me wrong, I love concerts! I’ve even been known to stand outside in 110 degree weather at Austin City Limits to see some of my favorite bands!

But going to a concert just wasn’t the type of party I had in mind. We had a group of 13 girls, some that had driven a long way to be there, (and some that were very pregnant at the time!), and I wanted to be able to spend quality time with them–something a little bit lower key than being packed like sardines at a loud SXSW concert. :)

Funny! We went to SXSWi this year, it is a week after our wedding next year and we our considering making it our “honeymoon”. So it isn’t the most romantic spot, but we both like talking “geek” at the interactive portion. Plus, we have never been traditional.

Wow! It was such a zoo at SXSW this year! I completely understand, though - we booked our Austin wedding on the Saturday of ACL festival. All the hotels are double their usual prices, and we’ve had an awful time trying to get a hotel block. Not to mention many of the guests are upset to be missing Dave Matthews Band, who will be headlining Saturday’s concert at the same time as our reception, just a few miles down the road.

Haha, that’s hilarious! My planning fail wasn’t really my fault: I picked out our date according to UGA’s football bye week schedule (I’ve wanted to have a fall since I was a kid!). There were only 2 open weekends, so I chose the one in November and we proceeded to schedule our bachelorette party for the other open date in October. Well, not long after deposits were put down, Georgia announced that they added a game to their fall schedule. I’ll give you one guess to which date they chose for it! EPIC FAIL. lol

At least it’s an early game against an easy opponent, so no major loss…

Uh, my wedding weekend was the same as a major festival in the nearby town that had all of the nearest hotels for our guests! And I didn’t realize this ‘oops’ until a week or two before the wedding when my MOH contacted me with having trouble finding a place to stay. Lucky for us, only a very very small number of people needed a hotel, the rest were either from the area or had family in the area.

We moved out date becasue of a huge fail. We piced a week before our date now but that was the same week as the richmond marathon which runs right by the church up to the reception all day. That would have been awesome…
