Mrs. Mouse, Austin Age and Occupation: 25, Attorney Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Civil Engineer Engagement Date: December 19, 2007 Wedding Date: September 2009 Venue: Barr Mansion About Me: I just graduated from law school and will be taking the bar, getting married, going on a honeymoon with my guy, and then trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I was born and raised in a small East Texas town, but I'm no country girl! I'm obsessed with British accents, fantasy (including Harry Potter, of course), and classic rock. My fiance and I consider ourselves both music and beer snobs--but every once in awhile we love to hear a crappy band and drink a cheap brew or two. We're planning an eco-friendly, casual, English garden affair for the end of summer, and we can't wait for it to get here!

Shake it Like a Polaroid

July 10th, 2009 @ 9:24 am by Mrs. Mouse

After attending Mrs. Kitten’s beautiful wedding in Grand Cayman and seeing her cocktail hour trivia cards in action, I knew I needed something to keep guests entertained throughout the reception. I wanted to create some type of photo project so that guests could share in our memories or even pick themselves out in a photo or two.

Enter this amazing project I found via A Practical Wedding.

Source

The project, Polaroids strung up on a line, was everything I’d been looking for and more. Simple, interactive, and best of all–it matched the casual, vintage feel we’re going for! I initially thought the project was going to be too much work, but for some reason I just couldn’t stop thinking about it! So I headed back to the post on A Practical Wedding and scrolled through the comments, trying to figure out how the bride created these authentic-looking Polaroids.

The answer? A (free!) downloadable program called Poladroid, available for Mac and Windows. It’s still in its Beta version, so there are a few quirks. For instance, it’s not yet available for those running Windows Vista.

However, it’s super-easy to use, and produces great results! Once the program is downloaded, you simply drag and drop a digital photo onto the Polaroid camera icon, and your Poladroid develops slowly (like a real Polaroid!). I haven’t yet discovered what types of files are compatible–for instance, I don’t know if it will convert PDFs. Afterward, you can print it out on photo paper, white border and all. Justin Timberlake is even blogging about how cool this program is!

My plan is to include around 100 or so photos of the Dude and me throughout our lives: in our awkward phases, with our families, with our friends, and finally a few with each other as adults (maybe some of our engagement photos?). My FMIL and FFIL have generously agreed to scan the Dude’s half of the pictures for me, so that saves me one huge step! I’m so excited to get to work on this project.

How are you incorporating photos into your wedding?

thanks for the info, what a fun idea, I was planning on a sting of photos similar to Mrs. Cherry Pie’s, but this gives it a whole new twist! This sting of photos is my plan b after a slide show just wasn’t going to fit into our day wedding reception at the limited indoor space and brightly lit park’s rec hall! But I am ubber excited about this new project, more so than the slide show.

We scanned photos of our families and of us growing up and printed them out at home. We then strung them on four lines of twine with clothespins so they were easy to see and in all one area. It was a hit!

I actually downloaded poladroid last year despite the fact that I have windows vista and it works fine, don’t give up vista bees!

I remember when Poladroid first came out exclusively for Mac users, and I had to patiently wait for the Windows release earlier this year. The software is great and simple to use. That is such a great idea! Cannot wait to see how it turns out!

Wow, what a great idea…I might try to turn my guests photos into “polaroids”! We are asking each guest who is married to send us a pic of them on their wedding day, and we are going to put them all on a magnetic wall at our venue. Our colors are purple and green so we thought about changing all of the photos to b/w and then tinting them in purple and green–for an Andy Warhol feeling!

amymoidl what an awesome idea! We’re boring–we just did a slideshow to music between dinner and the toasts. It was still a huge hit, albeit an unoriginal one!

I agree, that program is so cool! =) We’re thinking of using it when we make up our guest book — the border of the photograph is the perfect place for people to write their well-wishes.

OMG I was just using up the last of my polaroid film over the fourth of July and I thought of this exact same project. I thought, “wouldn’t it be cool to hang polaroids up on a string with clothes pins at our wedding instead of doing a fancy slideshow?”

It’s so funny that you posted about this! We must be on the same wavelength! Thanks for sharing about poladroid too. I wasn’t familiar with that program.

We’re doing a photo guest book. We’re going to do a DIY photobooth and have the scrapbook supplies set up so people can create their own pages for our scrapbook. I can’t wait!!

As GeorgiaPeach said, Poladroid works with Vista now. I downloaded it earlier in the year and it works perfectly. Originally though it was only available to Mac when it first came out.

It pretty much the coolest program I have on my computer. You can waste so much time shaking your polaroid pictures…
