This is Really It - Part 2

July 10th, 2009 @ 5:56 pm by Mrs. Joey

You know what has really made us feel like our lifetime commitment is official? No, it’s not the marriage license or the engagement ring. It isn’t the shared bank account or the new couch. It’s building a house together.

Sometimes we think that building this house together is more a symbol of us joining together than the actual wedding. Building a house takes a lot of planning, sanity and trust in each other. It will be the place we celebrate all our greatest achievements, where we’ll console each other after disappointments, and enjoy all the times in between. If there was ever a symbol of life together, we think this is it.

This is Really It - Part 2 : wedding relationships Other003

Our official celebration of the permit and breaking ground happens this week!

Besides the actual wedding, what event or purchase has made you and your FI feel “official”?

It’s much smaller than breaking ground on a new house, but sending out our Save the Date cards is what made it seem official. We’ve been dating for years, and we have been engaged for a VERY long time, but once I actually told people, “this is the day, please try to make it there,” it was the first time I got that crazy feeling in my stomach that *wow*, this is really it.

We bought a car about a month before the wedding. Terrible timing for Mr. K’s car to die on us! But it was fun making the decision together of how to spend our (not yet officially joined) funds!

Congrats! I’m so happy for you two!

Several years before we even GOT engaged, the mister and I signed up for a 529 savings account — for future Bruschettas. That DEFINITELY made things feel real, and there wasn’t even a ring in the picture yet!

@ Miss B. You are so responsible!
That’s something we should probably get on.

I don’t think I’ve really had the moment yet. I became a homeowner by default when we moved in together since he already owned. I sometimes feel like that first buying will make me feel more married than our wedding.

We haven’t got that far yet, but I think it’ll be our moving in together this fall. We’re both really excited to finally have “our” home together.

Congratulations! You really have your head on straight and your heart shows it!

We will be honeymooning in Seattle and the Olympic Pennisula in a few weeks. Again, “gotta see it” suggestions from someone who one who lives there?

@ktdid: I did a suggestion sheet for my guests visiting Seattle. Here’s the link to the post. http://www.weddingbee.com/2009/03/19/what-no-wedding-website/

Me and Mr Mini just bought our first house together, and we too see it as more of a symbol of our “joining” than the upcoming wedding.

My family is so big that my Nana only makes Christmas stockings when people actually get married. There have been too many “other situtations” that she made Christmas stockings for, and then had to un-stitch the name from. When she made my Mister a stocking last Christmas, I cried. It made it all seem so real.

I think it was joining our bank accounts. We already have a house together. So once we merged finances it really felt official

@pvaulter718: Mr. Joey’s SIL made me a christmas stocking last year and I felt like I was close to the inner circle then this she sent me a birthday gift and I knew I was in. :)

Congratulations! Hmm, I think we really started to feel official when I got on his health insurance plan and we combined our car policies into one. Yeah, I know, it’s not very romantic.
