A Quick Side Project Fit For the Birds

July 13th, 2009 @ 5:47 pm by Mrs. Cloud

I have been working pretty steadily the past few days on a little surprise project for my bridesmaids that I am waiting to share until it is absolutely completed. But my ADD took over and I had to take a quick break to work on something else. This happens way too often and is the number one reason I now have about ten half-completed projects taking over my home.

I ordered this adorable birdcage from Save on Crafts a few months back and it has been staring at me looking ugly and naked ever since (mine is 17”, which they don’t seem to sell alone anymore). Don’t get me wrong, it is super cute, but every time I look at it I think of the potential it could have. So, in about 30 minutes today, I printed a cute little card sign, played with some beautiful PaperSource ribbon, and our little birdcage is now gorgeous and ready for the wedding!

I remember seeing the almost exact same cage on the Knot a while back, decorated with layered ribbon and that image has stuck in my mind. It turned out to be a super easy project. I need more projects that are as painless as this one was!

Do you ever take a break from one project to do a completely different one?

We used the same exact bird cage for our card holder (http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/10/07/fitting-in-with-the-french/)! Looks great :) We have ours displayed on our bookshelf now because it makes me smile.

That cage is beautiful! Good job - didn’t take too much to fix it up!

I am a compulsive multi-tasker…but I can’t bring myself to leave something undone! I will take breaks to do other projects, but if I have left the first one unfinished, it will drive me nuts!!!

I love what you did with the birdcage! And yes, my guestbook project has been on hold for a few months, seeing as a major component I wanted to incorporate into it was a print from the Polaroid POGO Instant Digital Camera, which was “arriving in June” for the longest time…looked it up and it’s FINALLY available for purchase!

My fiance is Vietnamese and it is customary to give envelopes with money. Like many Asian cultures they don’t give gifts, just money. So I need to be ready. In the past, I have seen boxes at weddings to put envelopes in. Since I have been looking online, I have noticed birdcages. Is this the new trend?

I love this birdcage! I go back and forth on a box or a cage but I am totally leaning towards the cage now after seeing this. Good Job!

Ooohhh! Pretty!

What font did you use for this? Also, what are the dimensions that you set the label for?

Nice job!

The ribbon looks great! Was it one wide piece or three single pieces?

I love the finished product. In my opinion the cardbox was one of the hardest things to find. Modern, sleek and versatile is not what you usually think of when you hear wedding cardbox.. You did a great job.

@Mrs. Candy Corn: I’m hoping to display mine after as well, they are too cute to hide away!
@Charm bracelet: I went with the cage over boxes just because I couldn’t find a box I really loved, and I couldn’t beat the price!
@andriab: The font is Burgues Script, which is available from veer.com and the sign is about 5 1/2 x 3 1/2
@pvaulter718: It’s 3, 2 red and one white, all taped together for a little extra security
