About Mrs. Joey

A Minor Decision

July 14th, 2009 @ 5:54 pm by Mrs. Joey

I have a minor decision to make that I can’t stop thinking about. I have a few weeks to think it over and I can promise you I’m not dwelling over this decision day and night. I think about my decision randomly (while at the grocery store or on the bus) and then move on after a few minutes.

What’s my decision? Don’t laugh. It’s what color nail polish to wear on my fingers and toes. I know, I know. We have 18 days and lots to do, and I’m worried about nail polish? I don’t know what to say. For some reason, it’s on my mind.

In the summer, I get a pedicure about once every 6-8 weeks. I change and maintain the color and length of my nails myself. It’s more about the scrubs and filing and making sure my feet get a little attention. I walk a lot in the summer, and my feet take a beating. Besides, I found a few places I like where I can get a mani/pedi for $25 total.

So, I have a few decisions to make. First, will my fingers and toes be the same color? And second, what color, or colors?

In the summer, I like the bright red (OPI Vodka and Caviar) or a bright magenta (All that Razz-berry). In the fall and winter I go for the darker colors (Midnight in Moscow or Black Cherry Chutney). I mix in the nudes in the spring, but mostly stick to the summer and winter palettes.

So the question is whether to go with a bright color or not.

I like having something bright on my toes, even if I’m not wearing anything on my fingers. My wedding shoes are bright yellow, and some bright red polish would cute. It could also be too much.

And if I go with a bright color on my toes, should I go with a matching color on my hands? Sister Joey has always thought your fingers and toes should have the same nail polish color. I prefer the same color, but it isn’t a deal breaker for me. I’d do two colors.

If I did two colors, I’d go for something a little less flashy like Mimosas for Mr. and Mrs. or No Bees Please. Yes, there is the french tip option, but I always find that style too had for me to maintain. We’re honeymoon bound a few days after the wedding and I’d like the polish to survive the whole trip.

What do you think? Bright colors on toes and fingers? Brights on toes and neutral on fingers? Neutral on both?

Trust me…its a major detail! I still rack my brain. I love dark (Lincoln Park After Dark) on my fingers and especially toes, but I am not sure if I want something more subdued on the big day. EEEEK! I kinda wanna hear from photographers what they think is best. In black and white, it all seems to look good, but color photos can be a little less forgiving. I remember dance instructors telling us to ditch red because on stage, under lights, it looks like your fingers are bleeding. Umm, no thank you!

I like brights on toes and neutrals on fingers (I’d actually do neutrals on both for me, but you seem to want some color ;)). A bright color on your fingers might be too distracting in pictures!

I have found myself spending more time than I probably should on this issue. I’m still not sure what I’m going to do, but I’m likely to do a neutral on my fingers. Unsure about what color to paint my piggies, though.
I’d recommend a neutral for your fingers because your hands are going to be seen and photographed (think obligatory “hands with wedding bands over the bouquet” picture). But those shoes are screaming for something just as bold as they are. My vote is for All That Razz-berry on your toes.

I would do a neutral on the fingers and then something more wild on the toes. I think that having a bright colour might take away from the dress and all when you’re looking back at the pictures of your day. A neutral is classy, elegant and timeless. Colourful toes will go with your shoes, and then it’ll be great for your honeymoon too!

Definitely neutral on fingers. For toes, for the wedding day I would prefer a neutral, so your shoes are kind of the color focus, but that would be boring when you’re on your honeymoon, so maybe you should go with bright on your toes. I also like the raspberry a lot with the yellow.

I would definitely go for a more subdued color on the hands. I wore a pretty bright reddish color on my fingernails for our engagement shoot thinking it’d add a pop of color…well it most certainly did! After they edited the photos it was waaay too much. I think they bumped up the contrast on the photos so my skin looked a bit paler and all I could focus on was my nails and not what was going on in the rest of the photos. Just something to think about!

I agree that it should be neutral on fingers and bright on the toes. I love how that Razzz-Berry pops next to your shoes!

You are NOT alone! I actually added this to my wedding to-do list (and you also beat me to the punch for a post. Hmm…back to the drawing board. Haha!!).

While the usual nail salon I go to has great colors, i’ve been noticing that they are all either very dark or very very pale. Pale is okay on my fingers, but I really do like color on my toes. From one brown-skinned lady to the other, I say go bold on the toes and pale on the fingers. I like Vodka Caviar or Razzleberry.

Neutral on the hands bright on the toes. I like the combo of Razz-Berry next to the yellow. I think it would go great with the whole overall look (dress, shoes, hair accessory).

No bees please for your fingernails. You don’t won’t draw attention from your bouquet. (And it reminds me of you being a Bee)
And Razberry for your toes. It will pop with your shoe color.

Go with Italian Love Affair, a light pink which is also by OPI and simply amazing. It will look good on you toes and fingers.

This isn’t a minor decision for a beauty product junkie like me! I spent hours trying to decide on mine. I really wanted to do bright pedicure with a great red or hot pink, but my mom was dead set against it.

My votes are for All That Razz-berry for toes and Mr and Mrs. Mimosa for nails.

So, I’ve started to pay attention to nail color since my photographer mentioned that dark nail polish (or significant contrast to your skin) makes your fingers look shorter in photos. She suggested a neutral color.

That being said, I’m with the other bees - brightly colored tootsies!!!

If you feel “you” with the bright nails, go for it. If you dont care too much either way - go bright and fun on your toes, and one of your pretty neutrals on your fingers.

I have a perfect nailpolish for you that will match your whole gray/yellow color scheme!

Sephora by OPI: Water baby
http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P217311&categoryId=
It’s a silver/lilac-y sort of tone.

The almost exact same color can also be found in drugstores, but unfortunately the label is gone from my bottle so I don’t know the exact name.

I wear this religiously on my toes in the summer. I adore it because it’s shiny-metallic and unique, and yet at the same time, not garishly glittery and goes with everything. The BEST PART- if it chips, you can’t see it!

trust me, it looks much better on. If you want me to take a picture of it on me and send it to you, just email me :)
