Hair Trial - Round One…

July 14th, 2009 @ 5:31 pm by Mrs. Gloss

I made another trip up north this past weekend for my bridal shower (post forthcoming – waiting for pics!) and jam packed the weekend with various other vendor appointments, including a meeting with our caterer (we have a menu!) and my hair trial.

The salon was booked later in the afternoon, so I snatched up their 9AM appointment in hopes I would be done and back for my bridal shower brunch at 10:30. The timing worked perfectly, and I think the hair worked out pretty good as well :).

We also tested it out with my veil and earrings.

I think we are going to go a little wider with the smooth piece on the right (it looks a little off here because she was done and I was playing with it more as an afterthought).

The good news – it survived all day without a serious amount of hairspray. By the end of the night (around 11ish) it was still mostly intact. And I definitely didn’t baby it – I was on the lake, in the boat, took a nap, and drove around in my mom’s Wrangler for a while. And it still took about 20 minutes to get all the bobby pins out!

What do you think? Was your first hair trial a success?

Looks great!!

Er, I have had 3 hair trials and have not loved any of them. 2 of the 3 were quickies by the guy who cuts my hair. Then I had one last weekend at my salon/venue. It was better, but not quite right.

Oddly enough I am really not picky when it comes to my hair. I think the problem I’m having is that FI prefers my hair half up or down. The dress I picked is vneck with a deep vback and I really need to wear my hair up to show it off!

I love the shape on you - the front looks great - but I’m not sure about the style of the curls. It just looks a bit messy - but then again, it is a trial, so maybe the final version will be tidier. Again, I do think it’s a great style for you and would be perfect with some tweaking, it’s just there’s something that seems a bit off.

@Erindesmar:
I’m sure your FI will think you look beautiful with your hair up, and I agree that it will look best up with your dress. I think the main thing is to keep your hair in a similar ’style’ to your normal look, however you have it. For example, from your pic you look like you have very straight hair, with quite a classic look - so I’d say go for a classic up-do, with your hair still straight - just a simple bun would be lovely.

I had a similar problem - I tried a very casual, beachy up-do with curls and a silk flower (think Mrs Sea Breeze), but it wasn’t ‘me’ at all. I changed to a very simple, straight-haired up-do, with a vintage hair comb, and felt so much more myself - even though I have it down every other day.

I always say that a good up-do should look like you’ve just gathered up your hair and pinned it up yourself … but better!

Gosh, that was a long post - I’m very opinionated today aren’t I?!

Yes! It’s a great style, and “durability” is always a good thing. ;)

I love it Miss Gloss! It came out great. I hope my first hair trial goes well, I have no clue if I should do up or down or a mix!

It looks great! and I can’t believe it held up so well, mine would have been a hot mess by that point..

I think that looks really great. Enough curliness to keep it light and fun, but still formal! Perfect. Love the clip at the back!

I love the look–it’s elegant and romantic. Looking good, Miss Gloss!

I had one hair trial, and luckily it ended up working the way I wanted. However, on the day of the wedding, my hairstylist actually did it and then redid it, because I didn’t like how she did the part. Luckily, she’s a good friend, so I was able to be honest with her and she was willing to bend over backwards for me.

Egads! It’s the hair style I’ve been scouring the internet for! I love you so much right now. It looks fantastic.

I think playing with wider in the front could look very nice, I think it would bring around a bit of the back’s soft, romantic look.

Thanks Ladies!
@MrsSl82be: JCrew of course :)
@lou: I think part of it might be because she did it a little to one side instead of centered (which I will have her do for the wedding).

i didn’t get a trial, but communicated with my hair stylist via email, exchanging photos and seeking advice. i’m lucky i picked a simple style and it turned out great.

it’s a very pretty look for you :)

i think it is a great style for you, but i think you should just make sure that the back is neater for the day of the wedding. I am a hairstylist myself so I know how it should look ( I feel bad for the stylist who has to do my hair…haha.) also, make sure your stylist hides your bobby pins better…good luck.

@bridezilla21: Any suggestions on how to say that constructively to my stylist? She already said she would hide the bobbi-pins better (without any comments from me) so I’m assuming the non-trial will be more finished?
