Mrs. Mouse's Picture
Mrs. Mouse, Austin Age and Occupation: 25, Weddingbee Editor/Attorney Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Civil Engineer Engagement Date: December 19, 2007 Wedding Date: September 2009 Venue: Barr Mansion About Me: I just graduated from law school and will be taking the bar, getting married, going on a honeymoon with my guy, and then trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I was born and raised in a small East Texas town, but I'm no country girl! I'm obsessed with British accents, fantasy (including Harry Potter, of course), and classic rock. My fiance and I consider ourselves both music and beer snobs--but every once in awhile we love to hear a crappy band and drink a cheap brew or two. We're planning an eco-friendly, casual, English garden affair for the end of summer, and we can't wait for it to get here!
About Mrs. Mouse

Because Fourth of July weekend was pretty much my last hurrah before bar exam studying hit in full force, I convinced the Dude that we needed to take a day trip to celebrate. We decided on Fredericksburg, a charming little German-Texan town about two hours west of Austin.

Central Texas is home to several smaller communities that were originally settled by German immigrants in the 1800s, including Fredericksburg and New Braunfels.

Mini-Break: Fredericksburg Edition : wedding honeymoon venues Dscn009
At any rate, Fredericksburg today is a thriving tourist community, filled with museums, incredible antique shops, biergardens, wineries, bed and breakfasts, and historical monuments. It’s also teeming with gorgeous wedding ceremony locales, which I couldn’t help but scope out during our day trip.

Mini-Break: Fredericksburg Edition : wedding honeymoon venues Dscn01001 First, I noticed this gorgeous cathedral. I believe it’s a Lutheran church.

Mini-Break: Fredericksburg Edition : wedding honeymoon venues Dscn01101 This is the Nimitz Museum, known as the National Museum of the Pacific War (Nimitz, who was born in Fredericksburg, was the commander of the U.S. Pacific forces in World War II). Throughout the day, we heard what sounded like canon blasts coming from this museum–I guess they have some pretty exciting exhibits! I thought the building was beautiful, and it might make for a cool reception venue for any WWII enthusiasts out there.

Mini-Break: Fredericksburg Edition : wedding honeymoon venues Dscn01002 My personal favorite was the Gillespie County Courthouse. It made me think of Miss Mary Jane! I’m imagining some action shots on those stairs!

Mini-Break: Fredericksburg Edition : wedding honeymoon venues Dscn01003 And look what we found around the side of the building: a nuclear fallout shelter sign! I thought it was pretty cool, but maybe the vintage obsession has started to go to my head.

Mini-Break: Fredericksburg Edition : wedding honeymoon venues Dscn01102 I could totally see a quickie ceremony in this adorable little garden we found right on Main Street.

Mini-Break: Fredericksburg Edition : wedding honeymoon venues Dscn012 The pictures didn’t come out great because it was getting dark, but I was trying to capture this huge grassy pavilion, also located right on Main. It was so open and inviting. If you got married here, the whole town could join in! That octagonal structure is actually a historical building. It was built in the summer of 1847 as a church for all denominations, a school, and a community hall. I love how this town has preserved its history!

I can’t even begin to explain how amazing Fredericksburg is. I’ve never seen any place like it! Besides the places I listed above, there are any number of other locations in this town that would be perfect for a wedding. Especially any of the wineries or the quaint bed and breakfasts. Now that I think about it, Fredericksburg would also make a great minimoon locale!

Have you visited a place recently that would make for an exciting wedding venue?

It’s too bad it’s been so hot & dry or you could have had tons of Fredricksburg peaches too!

My whole family is from Fredericksburg and in the early planning stages, I seriously considered having our wedding there to be close to family. :)

It’s such a cute town! I agree, a perfect wedding destination! Did you stay at any of those cute B&Bs or was it a day trip?

What’s worse, marrying in a jail, or marrying in a fall-out shelter? :D Very cool, Mouse, very cool. :)

I LOOOVE Fredericksburg. We thought about doing a “Mini-Moon” there, but changed our minds. Me and my mom always used to go with my dad and brother to the “Deer Lease” out in Doss and during the day when the guys were doing their thing, we’d spend hours shopping in Fredericksburg :-D

We did our minimoon in Fredricksburg. It’s one of our favorite places to visit.

Aww, I’m from Fredericksbirg, Virginia. The civil war Fredericksburg. I was so excited when I saw this post, and then downtrodden after it was revealed to be about the evil Texas Fredericksburg that rears it’s head when I’m doing a google search for the local movie theater or library.

Looks lovely though :)

I love Fredericksburg! My FI and I love to visit anytime we can - it’s our little “special place”. And its great that it is only 2 hours from Austin! We love all the wineries, and if we were getting married here in TX, I would have definitely considered Fredericksburg!

I love Fredericksburg, guess that’s why we are doing the wedding there! We have made several trips in the past few months trying to find vendors and locations. The wineries are so neat and fun. It is a mini-napa!

We drove through Fredericksburg when we were moving to Santa Fe. We actually did the drive from Austin, as well! Love it. It’s adorable! I’m dying to go back as we only passed through.

How funny! The wooden arch at the garden you pictured is the inspiration for the one my dad is building for my wedding. We love Fredericksburg!
