Guests were enjoying drinks and hors d’oeuvres during the cocktail hour, while the rest of us were taking formal shots outside in the Upper Garden. I was grinning from ear to ear while standing next to my husband (!!!!), so saying “cheese” wasn’t going to be a problem for me. While posed shots really aren’t our style, we wanted to have standard portraits that our parents and grandparents could frame or show their friends.

I remember not wanting to let go of Mr. Candy Corn’s hand. I hadn’t seen him the entire day leading up to the ceremony and it felt like eons not having him there to share the excitement.

Phew, everyone was looking at the camera and being chipper (how cute is our super smiley groomsman in the very back?). Scratch that pose off our list.

Notice how Mr. Candy Corn’s 12-year-old brother is the same height as me. Yeah, I’m a shorty. My kitten heels were digging into the grass and I felt myself sinking and trying not to stumble over.

I adored seeing the look of the bridal party come together, especially with the guys wearing their matching Converse shoes. I have to admit, I was disappointed because the suits weren’t the size we ordered, nor were they Calvin Klein like we had paid for, but another knock off brand that was cheaply made (including fake ties on elastic!). Despite the mishaps, we didn’t let it ruin our day.

Mommy French (who came all the way from…you guessed it, France!), Mr. Candy Corn, me and Mr. Candy Corn’s half brother behind their adorable mom and stepfather.

It was difficult to stare straight ahead because I could see and hear friends of ours pouring out of the balcony above during the cocktail hour. I just wanted to sprint and hug them all like crazy, but I behaved and stood still… as much as a spazzy gal like me can stand still.

I couldn’t have been happier to have such a supportive team behind me that I could call my family. They were always incredibly supportive of our relationship (despite my dad being an overprotective, retired cop) and never doubted our decision to get married at 24.

I’m honored to be a part of their family now and to have gained three brothers, a sister, two sets of parents, and a sassy grandma from France. Mr. Candy Corn’s youngest brother was snacking on the candy corn we had at the bar and he had an entire handful while these photos were being taken. I was very tempted to snag some to use as fangs in a photo, but I didn’t want to scare the new family away just yet.

I love this photo because it captures exactly how we were feeling that day. We were both in our own little excited universe and just so happy that others wanted to join us.

Let’s face it: you knew I had to throw an ugly one in there for you. This is one of the shots where I was goofing around and trying to shake away all of the seriousness of formal photos. I don’t think anyone else realized I was making a face, but then again, they’re all pretty used to my antics by now so I’m sure they just shrugged it off.
