About Mrs. Apple Cider

As most brides are, I am trying to get in shape before the big day. I have been working at getting in shape for the last year. I have been working out more, I got a trainer at the gym, and have generally been trying to get healthy.

Getting My Booty In Shape : wedding fitness Weights
As most of you know, I had hip surgery in April that left me on crutches for 6 weeks, and basically out of commission for a solid 2 months. It was a major setback, but I am committed to getting back in shape and finally off crutches and cleared to work out full time.

This past week I started “booty camp” in the city. 2 times a week for an hour I get up at 5:45AM and head to a pier in NYC to “train”. It is basically like basketball camp. The trainer is great. She is a former pro basketball player and pushes us… but in a nice way.

After day 2 I was so sore that I could hardly walk, but it seems to be worth it. I am pretty much the worst in the class. I am not a runner (plus my hip is still hurting a little). She has us doing things like champion runs, sprints, crab crawls, and more, and more, and more. It is really tough. Today I told myself that I don’t have to be first, as I have nothing to prove. I paid for this camp and I did it for me… so I am only competing against myself. With that mentality, I think I can make it.

I am trying to be realistic with my expectations. There is no way I am going to lose 20 pounds in 2 and a half months (which at one point was a goal). I now just want to feel good and healthy and get to a point that I can be happy with after the wedding.

Mr. AC and I are moving in together for the first time in a few weeks and we have committed to getting healthier together and I am hoping he will hold my feet while I do push ups (that seems like love to me!).

How did you approach “getting in shape” for your wedding? Did it overwhelm you?

Congrats! Everyday I try to pull myself out of bed to do Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred at 6:30am. And everyday I get back under my covers. :)

Go you! I joined Weight Watchers just over a month ago and I’ve lost 11 pounds. I really need to start hitting the gym though at least 3 days per week. ::sigh:: Motivation I need!

Um, I definitely don’t think — based on your pics — that you NEED to lose 20 pounds. Good to hear, then, that you revamped your fitness plan…and good luck!

Is this through bootcamp republic? I signed up for the one in the park so that I can get some new moves and tone up before the big day.

I did Stacy’s Boot Camp in Central Park (stacysbootcamp.com) for about 6 months before my wedding and I lost 30 pounds. I also watched my calories.

It was hard - but I really enjoy the boot camp - and I’m still doing it. Though the diet has fallen off a little bit…

Good luck with your boot camp - it’s such a fun way to stay in shape!

I cut out all fried foods back on New Years. To date, I lost about 20 pounds from that, and an additional 15 from getting really sick. When I was going to the gym, I was discouraged by the fact that I wasn’t losing anything. My fiance just started to do SlimFast again (he had done it in high school). Since the end of May, he is down 30 pounds. Sometimes I really hate how guys can just shed it off.

I too figured out I wouldnt reach my goal weight - however, working out I have progressed & I am sticking to it since my inches are showing. I set a goal June 16 ( wedding is Oct 10) to work out 100 times before the wedding. I have 84 more workouts to go but I am getting out a lot more & even conquered by first rune & bike this past weekend. I use to run but an accident last year slowed me down alot & now i finally feel like I am getting back into it - especially after gaining 5 pounds after law school finals - despite the fact I should have started losing weight at that point. My second dress fitting is coming up & I know i have lost since the first - so that will motivate me as well to reach my 100 day workout goal!
Glad you are feeling better since your hip surgery ( ouch!)

I promised myself that at 3 months out, I would follow a workout regiment and eat healthier. I am now 2 weeks out, and just starting. I admire your discipline! :)

I think it’s hard for anyone to get out of bed that early, you go girl! I am a clothes girl myself, and I told myself I wouldn’t buy any new jeans until I could buy 4’s. I couldn’t quite button them at Express last week, so maybe the end of the month?!?!

I have always wanted to try a boot camp, but to be honest with you, I am a big scaredy cat! 5 am is too much for me, but you are a brave girl! Good for you though, keep us updated on your progress!

good for you! i am also in nyc and have looked into various boot camps but can’t seem to get on board with their early morning schedules! so i joined a gym for the first time in my life instead, and that has actually been going really well (i’ve found that built-in tvs on the equipment is key! makes the experience much more tolerable :)

20 lbs?!? You look fantastic. Working out with a buddy (in your case your mister) is a great idea and has always been a big motivator for me.

I’ve always found that working out makes me FEEL better about how I look, gives me a extra boost of confidence, and helps me manage stress. So no matter what weight you are, its always time well spent!

That said, I’d like trim up a bit before shopping for wedding dresses this fall. I want to feel confident about my body as I try on dresses in front of my mom, and FMIL (who at her “fattest” is a size 4- I’m “skinny” at a size 10!).

Hi Lotam,

I did Bootcamp Republic. The first day was really quite challenging. I felt like I was going to die the next day, I was so sore. Then on the second session the trainer pushed me so hard that I felt like I had sprained my ankle. The trainer did not believe I was actually hurt and she pushed me harder. I ended up really hurting myself and needed physical therapy for six weeks. Lucky for me my wedding wasn’t for three months so I could heal. Good luck!@lotam240:

I agree with the other bees and Miss Bruschetta - you look fabulous just as you are!! Working out with Mr. AC is a great idea. My advice for moving in together is to watch your portions - when I moved in with my SO I started eating the same portion sizes as him, which did not help my weight!!
