Ceremony Aesthetics

July 16th, 2009 @ 6:32 pm by Mrs. Piglet

We’ve been working with Yvonne and Ally from Yvonne Design on our floral and reception decor. Unlike our fabulous Mrs. Latte, I lack the flower gene. I deserve a slap on the wrist, because I was one of those brides that came empty-handed for our first flower consult. After hanging up the phone, I promised to send inspirational photos of what I envisioned for our wedding. And I did… 3 months later. :) See? Very bad.

We’re taking a minimalist approach to the ceremony. We ordered nothing but bouquets, boutonnieres, and a wedding arch. See those flower adornments on the arch? Take those out, and that’s what we’re getting. Seriously, though, how much decor is needed when you’re in Hawaii?

This will be the first visit to Hawaii for many of our out-of-town guests. For this reason, we wanted a tropical feel for our floral selections.

I love how I keep saying *we*, when it should really be *I*. Heh, but Mr Pig agreed. That said, our floral choices are a combination of pale yellow roses and white cymbidium orchids for the bridesmaids’ bouquets, ranunculus and cymbidium orchids for my all-white bouquet, and white cymbidium orchids for the boutonnieres. Nothing all too shocking for a destination wedding, but *we* love our choices! I sent Yvonne the pictures below as loose guidance. The bouquet isn’t representative of our floral choices, so I’m leaving it up to her to work her magic.

I’m happy with our decision to go light on floral for the ceremony. A lot of times, decisions like these are debated internally in my head. But this one stuck. We’ll take it up a notch for our reception. Hooray for decisions made!

Are you going all out for both your ceremony and reception floral and decor? Or just one of the two?

I think you made a great decision! The orchids and roses will be lovely, and the scenery will speak for itself.

Thanks for sharing these pictures. I’ve been trying to describe to FI that I wanted flowing white fabric around the posts just wasn’t coming across well to him. Very pretty ideas!

Love the flower choices! We aren’t going all out for either. I’m getting married on the beach in Oahu and the groom is wearing a maile lei and I will have a green cymbidium orchid bouquet. The bridal party are wearing green orchid leis. And for the reception it is pinneapples surrounded by orchids. Simple with a taste of Hawaii.
