About Mrs. Joey

Do and Redo

July 16th, 2009 @ 11:58 am by Mrs. Joey

A few weeks ago, I finished our seating charts. We had all the RSVPs in, and I really wanted to get this task out of the way. It took a little while, but I finished it and was actually proud of some of the table assignments I put together.

A week later, there was a change. Our friends broke up, and this meant that we either needed to move someone to another table, or we’d have one less guest at the wedding. Since it was just one minor change, I decided to sit on changing the tables until the broken up couple told me for sure what was going on.

Fast-forward 2 more weeks, and we suddenly had another change. My very first RSVPer can’t make it to the wedding. That’s 2 more spots to account for. Actually, the absence of these 2 people throw off the entire dynamic of the table. Now, I may have to rethink the table.

Looking back, I can’t decided whether I should have waited until the last minute to do the table assignments, or if was a good thing I did them. Hopefully, the changes won’t take us very long to sort out.

Did you find that there were some wedding tasks that were better left to the last minute? What were they?

Baking the DIY cupcakes and buying the food for the DIY sandwich bar. =) We’re planning on doing these the day before the wedding, if possible. No old, frozen cupcakes for us!

We totally did a rough draft of our seating, but I know it’ll likely change a bunch once the RSVPs are all in!

I did the table assignments on post-it notes on a closet door at the venue. A good thing, too, because there were significant changes required in the week before the wedding.

I’m afraid to start my seating chart for the same reason :-/ Bummer on having to re-work it.

I have put off many decisions for fear I’ll change my mind. It sucks that the seating chart is sort of out of your hands because you really never know until the last minute who is going to make it to the wedding. Good luck!

i hope the changes don’t take too long either. We finished our seating arrangements about 2.5-3 weeks before the wedding. I wouldn’t and couldn’t have done it any sooner!

That stinks! But, I think it’s okay to have 1 or 2 less people at a table! I wouldn’t sweat it :)

Hmmm. Well, there’s nothing that I regret having done early yet, but I think the seating chart will have to be one of the very last things I do. Since I’m getting married in Panama, if there aren’t enough people from the US coming, we’ll just invite more of the Panama folks, making it a last minute project.

The morning of my wedding (which was just a few weeks ago), I got an email from someone who was having a family emergency & couldn’t come. Because of the way our table setups were, it TOTALLY threw things off and would have left for a very small & uncomfortable table–but it all worked out in the end! I’m sure yours will too!!

Drafts, followed by minor revisions is definately the way to go. Just try not to get stressed about the changes in dynamics and politics and roll with the punches!

Oh, I hope all of this works out! I’m getting ready to do my seating and I thought it would be easier to do it before RSVPs so I just can move people as needed. Guess nothing in wedding planning is just that easy? lol

Your post reminded me to stop getting ahead of myself! I’m the type of person who thinks “I just want to get it done!”…which in wedding-planning means “I now have to do it over”!

Some stuff just needs to come later (seating chart, how many buses for guest transportation, haircut, faux tan, marriage license, etc.), and I just keep repeating to myself: “All in due time, all in due time”!

Thx for your post!
