Well, we can check one more thing off the list: Mr. Mary Jane’s suit. Last Friday, I received an email from my mom telling me Macy’s was having a 1 Day Sale. One of the heavily discounted items available? Menswear. Mr. Mary Jane was a very good boy: he agreed to go suit-shopping on a Friday evening.
We were originally unsure if we were going to buy an all new suit for Mr. MJ, or if he’d just get a new jacket to go with a pair of black pants he already owns. Once entering the store (and realizing we’d probably be better off if we’d actually had the pants WITH us), we decided to go all out and get a new matching pants/jacket set.
Mr. Mary Jane didn’t waste too much time deciding: he looked at a few jackets and decided he preferred a wider lapel over the narrower options. He then decided to go with a subtle pinstripe, rather than solid black. We had originally considered dressing Mr. MJ in a charcoal or medium-grey colored suit, but once in the store we both felt like the darker suit would be much more wearable for professional events (like job interviews) in the future.
Here are some photos. (Instead of a blue shirt and tie, picture a white shirt and [probably] green tie.) Those are the shoes he’ll be wearing, as well. They’re Bostonian Duralite Oxfords.

The price of Mr. Mary Jane’s outfit was the best news of all. A new suit can be a major investment. We were willing to make that investment because in addition to wearing his suit for the wedding, he’ll have it if he needs to be dressy for work. But our investment turned out to be less than I’d anticipated! His suit jacket, normally $325, was marked down to $129. With additional promotions we purchased it for $98. His pants, normally $125, were marked down to $60 and we got them for $48 after the promotions. His shoes were purchased weeks ago, but they were also on sale for $69 (marked down from $100). And I had a gift card (a benefit of having a Macy’s Rewards CC!) which made them free to us. The total full price for Mr. MJ’s outfit (minus shirt and tie, which have yet to be purchased): $550. The total price we paid? $146. I’d say that’s a good deal, wouldn’t you?
We chose to buy a suit because it’s a good investment for Mr. Mary Jane’s professional wardrobe. But if we’d been planning a more formal wedding (with tuxes), we’d have probably rented. Are you buying (or did you buy) your groom’s outfit?
