Trolley Transportation

July 16th, 2009 @ 1:22 pm by Mrs. Labrador

As part of my “must-do list” @$$-kicking week, we’re putting the deposit down on our guest transportation:

A trolley! Our ceremony will take place at a square smack dab in the middle of historic downtown Savannah where it’s hard to find parking and easy to get lost. So we decided it would benefit everyone involved to just park at our reception site…

… and then take a short 1 mile trolley trip to our ceremony site…

… and then back to the reception to get the party started! I had originally thought about doing some kind of parade to get all the guests back to the reception site. But I realized that wouldn’t solve the problem of getting them TO the ceremony site.

Source

It would have been fun to do the parade, but it’s just not that practical, especially for the older guests who might not be thrilled at the idea of a 1 mile walk. Besides, having the trolley will provide some great photo opportunities, as Mr. Lab and I will be taking some of our formal portraits on it! Not to mention that the trolley rolled by our square the last time I was visiting (it’s a sign!).

The trolley just adds to the Southern flair and will be such a fun touch for our guests. We’ll have the trolley make 3 rounds to make sure it gets everyone (it fits 35 guests at a time). After the ceremony, the wedding party will leave first, while the guests wait at the square and enjoy some refreshments until it comes back. This will give Mr. Lab and I a chance to escape to spend some alone time together and see the reception setup before everyone arrives.

There are a couple of trolley companies that operate in Savannah, but of course we’re going with the all white ones from Old Savannah Tours. For 3 hours of service and unlimited shuttling, it’s only $325!

All un-sourced photos are mine!

Sigh. So jealous of your trolley cost. Mine is almost 3 times that for 4 hours and it holds less people. Oh Philadelphia. Great idea to provide transport. I wish I could but we just can’t afford it.

Oh man, I have total trolley envy! We were going to get one to shuttle our guests from their hotel to the ceremony site and then to the reception. For some reason the cost for this in Milwaukee was kind of high and since our timeline for the day wasn’t going to let my fiance and I actually ride on it we decided not to spend the money.

Holy **** that’s a great deal! Trollies around here are so expensive, it would have been like $1,200 for 4 hours or something insane like that.

Lucky you, trollies are too cute and way better for photos than a limo is, IMHO. We had to end up getting a Lincoln Navigator limo to fit the whole bridal party, ugh.

WHOA - that price is AMAZING! You are so lucky! I really love how this will tie in to your wedding, its great! I have been considering a trolley myself…making guests figure out parking, etc, can be difficult!

Ms. Lab,

Love the trolleys and super happy to have some info on this for Savannah!! I am also getting married in Savannah in November! My wedding date is Nov. 21st! Our ceremony is going to be at Forsyth Park and I was curious if you have a rain plan since you are also having an outdoor ceremony? Also, what time is your ceremony going to be?

we had 2 trolleys transport people from the hotel/beach/ceremony site to the reception and then back. It was a lot of fun and everyone really liked them! your guests will be excited!

@sarsk624 & @Miss Stiletto & @mander411: I’m so glad the trolleys here aren’t that expensive! I would have been heartbroken!

@TheMapChick: Yeah, if I couldn’t take a ride in it, I wouldn’t want to do it! I’m selfish! lol

@fruitcakes02: Our rain plan is to hold the ceremony inside Savannah Station if necessary. The space is too big for the amount of guests we’re having, so they’re closing off half of it with a theatrical tent and saving the other side in case we decide to use it for a ceremony. (yay! no tents or extra chairs necessary!) But I’ve done TONS of research and November has the driest & clearest days in Savannah with temps of high 60s to low 70s. I’m hoping we won’t have to worry about it at all. Our ceremony is going to be at about 4:30 pm. Hope all that helps!

@Miss French Bulldog & @Miss Poodle: You girls would totally be allowed to come in! I can’t turn away fellow doggie bees! ;)

@DC Anna: I can’t wait to TAKE them! :D

@LittleBear: Yay! I’m glad to hear that guests really do appreciate things like this!

Trolleys are also great because they won’t smoosh your dress - you can stand if you want, or sit in the first seat and have plenty of room for the dress to spread out

We took the tour with them a couple of years ago in Savannah and we had a great time even though it was August and the heat index was in the 100’s. What a great idea for your wedding!

It’s fabulous to have the trolley! I love when my brides do this–it’s really best for the guests due to the parking issues in the squares.

Which company are you using?
