Bride Brain

July 17th, 2009 @ 12:59 pm by Mrs. French Bulldog

Wait… what was I writing about again?

Oh, right, Bride Brain. I’m normally not a very forgetful person. I remember to call people back, I reply to an email almost immediately (if I know the answer) and I am rarely late (unless I’m going to work).

I am what some people might refer to as impatient. I also try to employ the “Golden Rule” whenever possible - you know? Treat others as you would like to be treated. Thus, I want responses right away, so I try to respond to others right away. I would like my “dates” to be prompt, so I aim to do the same for others. That is, until lately. It isn’t like I’ve become a flake on purpose, or I don’t care all of a sudden. I am just really forgetful lately. Embarrassingly so.

I’ve been able to keep in contact with a sorority sister from college (Theta Love!) who lives near my office, through the wonder that is Facebook. I was supposed to meet her for lunch two weeks ago and I COMPLETELY forgot. She showed up with her new baby, and I never did. I called her immediately after I realized my extreme faux pas (about an hour after I was supposed to meet her) to apologize, but I felt horrible. Who does that? Not me… or the non-overworked-too-much-on-her-plate me. I did something similar to our officiant this past Sunday!

A couple weeks ago I ordered 3 necklaces for my bridesmaids from Lara Leigh Designs on Etsy. She offered to let me write up a personal message to attach to each gift. She had to email me this week, to remind me to send the messages. D’oh!

Thank you notes for my showers? They’re sitting on my desk all written out and all they need are addresses and stamps. I have forgotten for weeks to do that on my lunch break, and they are sitting right next to my purse.

So, why am I acting so unlike myself? I blame it on work, school and planning a wedding. The Frenchie wedding is fast approaching and I simply have too much on my plate. Luckily, my finals are next week and then I’ll have one less thing to worry about.

Are you experiencing Bride Brain?

You are so not alone!!! I have been having the same problem, mostly with responding to emails. I’m really hoping it will go away soon, I hate feeling like such an idiot when I have to be reminded AGAIN about responding to something…

Hey, I was a Theta too (at USC)! Where did you go to school?
And I absolutely have Bride Brain and am glad to hear that other people experience this and I’m not just going crazy! I feel like I forget…wait, what was I writing about again? :)

Oh god, yes. I’ve never been so irresponsible in my life. I’m spinning my wheels with tons to do, and therefore having trouble getting anything done. All I can say is: post-its are your friend. Stick ‘em where you’ll see ‘em, I keep mine on my monitor at work and they say stuff like “CALL THE PHOTOG FRIDAY BY NOON”. Also if your phone has a calendar in it, use it for things like friend-lunches and make sure you tell it to give you a reminder chime or vibration a half-hour before hand. These tips have saved my forgetful, overbooked butt many times.

I was the same way in the month leading up to the wedding. It was horrible, I forgot appointments, due dates on work projects, and all sorts of things. I couldn’t agree more on Miss MJ’s cellphone calendar approach…it saved my butt a few times too.

I am right there with ya! With 2 weeks left to go, my life is absolute mayhem. I’ve given up on any sort of e-list, and have posted to-do lists everywhere (the hello kitty ones.) :)

Yeah I have completely lost it. And when I’m stressed, I cry. Girl crying in the target parking lot because I forgot to mail my mom’s bday card, yeah that was me. I carry a little notebook with me everywhere now for reminders (unless I forget that too..)

Yup! I feel like I constantly have 40,000 things to do swimming around in my head. I’m constantly starting something and then switching over in the middle to something else. And I just picked up an iced coffee from Starbucks hoping it’ll give me much-needed energy and focus!

It’s good to know I am not the only one who has become total absent minded while wedding planning. I too, relay on my phone calendar and I would be lost without it!

Oh yeah. I blame lots of my recent mistakes and emotions on the wedding! Haha, it’s a good thing Mr. Star is patient!

Bride brain would imply that I still HAVE a brain.
And I am not sure that’s the case.
It’s not so much that I can’t remember things as that I can’t fathom the majority of subjects that should become things that I should remember.
A million times a day I have a vague fleeting thought of something that moves quickly across my brain to disappear into the abyss forever.

I’ve pretty much accepted the fact that I’m brain dead and would ask for the help of my girls/my fiance/my family - if only I could remember to make a list and um… remember what would need to be on the list in the first place.

:)

I was so absent-minded the week before my wedding that it prompted my (normally well-behaved, discreet) mother to say the most embarrassing thing possible to me on the morning of:

“Well, you know what your dad and I always called that? You’ve been ****ing your brains out!”

Don’t worry, Miss Frenchie! Once you’ve said your vows, your brain will settle down again. :)

I agree, and it was totally the simple things. Shower thank yous were written AND addressed, all they needed was stamps! For Three Weeks!

Crap. I stood up my friend for drinks last week. Well, not entirely. I did email her and cancel at the last minute, though. There is just too much stuff going on in my brain right now! I totally relate, Miss Frenchie!

Oh I have Bride Brain too, although I never had a name for it before now! I have been annoying the crap out of myself with everything I’ve been forgetting. (It’s even worse when you remember what you forgot and then get irritated with yourself for forgetting it in the first place!) One bout of Bride Brain even resulted in me crying at work over how forgetful I’ve become. You aren’t alone Miss French Bulldog :)

PS. I was a Theta too–a founding sister at UCF in Florida. Theta love!!!
