UPDATE: We’re trying out the streamlined layout as the default. If you’d like to switch to the classic expanded view, just follow the instructions in the post below! 
Streamlined archives were a big hit… so now we’re testing a new optional streamlined version of the frontpage!
To try it out, just mouseover the word “expanded” at the top of the page (right above the MORE buttons) … and “switch to Streamlined”.
It streamlines the posts just like in the Archive pages.
We’ll test this out for a bit… and if the test goes well, we may make the Streamlined version the default frontpage view.
But if it’s not your style, no worries! There will be an optout so that you can set your frontpage to always show the classic Expanded version.
A few advantages of the streamlined version:
Also… the streamlined frontpage will let us show 20-30 posts at a time eventually… so that posts don’t scroll off the frontpage as fast - we update 28 times a day on average!
It’s completely optional though - so if you don’t like it, just click here to make sure you stay on the Expanded view.
And since we’re trying to make it easier and easier for you to view archives, we also added a new Calendar module to the frontpage sidebar:
Now if you miss a day of posts, you can just click over to that day and start catching up from there.

Oooo, the calendar function is a great idea! It’ll make catching up after the honeymoon much easier! 
I am loving the calendar function! I went overseas for 5 weeks with no internet access back in the Spring. By the time I came home I was so overwhelmed by everything I missed, and I had no idea of how to possibly go back through those entries.
Thanks for the great new features and continually improving the site!
I really like the calendar idea! And I’m glad you made the expanded vs. streamlined format a choice — I think that was a nice move.
This is great Makes so much easier to keep up with the gazillion posts that go up on the same day.

I love the streamlined look. We recently did something similar with one the corporate websites I manage and it made a fairly substantial improvement with server performance…especially when in a “farm” setting.
LOVE the calender feature! I use Google Reader and when I go on vacation/over weekends I get so overwhelmed with all my blogs that I sometimes mark everything as read, but still want to check out what I missed! Thanks
I love BOTH the new features! I read Weddingbee on my iPhone and sometimes I skip a few here and there and when I get to the site I like to scroll through them and pick the ones I missed on my phone! This is going to make it so much easier!

I love it! I think it will make browsing through the site much easier. One suggestion: instead of the thumbnail picture being the bee’s user profile photo, can it be a thumbnail of their first picture in the post? So you can get a visual preview of the post’s topic?
@KathyQ: The thumbnail defaults to the first photo in the post. If there is no photo in the post, or the topic is sensitive (like, a preview of their dress that they don’t want their FIs to see… like Miss Poodle’s post, in the pic) then it defaults to their profile pic. Check out the streamlined view and you’ll see that the majority of posts have preview pics!

Freaking brilliant ideas!!! As someone who still has to use dial-up internet (I know, unheard of!) the streamlined feature is amazing! When you live out in the sticks like I do, besides outrageously expensive wireless internet, dial-up is the only thing available to us! And the calendar feature will make catching up on this much easier!

Ah man, I wish the calendar came a week earlier! I finally caught up from my wedding and it took forever to figure out where I left off. It’s awesome though!
OH I LOVE THE CALENDAR! I just came back from vacation and you added all these amazing great features! I love the streamline it is easier for me to view on my phone also!

@Mrs. Quiche: As we’re able to gather enough archive posts with the small thumbnail images attached, we will increase the # of posts to 15, and hopefully eventually we can get up to 25!
