Stranded

Something about pearls is just so… bridal. Chic and timeless, classic and romantic.

After purchasing my gown, I knew pearls would be the perfect accent. Like Miss Frenchie, I tend to favor a few simple jewelry pieces. Rarely do I wear more than my engagement ring, wristwatch and one of several simple pendant necklaces. So although I swooned briefly over some of the gorgeous styles available on Etsy, I ultimately followed through with my original plan and ordered a freshwater pearl set from PearlsOnly, an online farm-to-consumer retailer that boasts affordable, high-quality pearls and speedy shipping.

I had first discovered PearlsOnly when Sister Bruschetta was planning her wedding. She was also interested in wearing pearls, and after much research, I gifted her a freshwater necklace the Christmas before her wedding. I was really pleased with the product and service, and tucked the company’s web site away in the back of my mind for future reference.

When the time came to make my purchase, I was unsure whether a 16- or 18-inch necklace would work better. So, I ordered both — and, since they arrived the day before my second fitting about a week ago, was able to try both lengths with my gown. PearlsOnly offers a stress-free return policy — 90 days, with a complete money back guarantee — which was perfect for my indecisiveness. Yesterday, I packaged up the set including the 18-inch necklace, and happily tucked away the other box — containing a 16-inch necklace, bracelet and studs — to be worn on our wedding day.

I love that after the wedding, I’ll have some beautiful pearl pieces — with great sentimental value — to add into my simple jewelry “repertoire.” And I’m so pleased to be able to check something off the to-do list with no difficult decisions or drama.

PearlsOnly recently added a “Bridal Bundles Collection” to the site as well — sets of freshwater necklaces or earrings packaged together specifically for your wedding party. Simple bridesmaid jewelry coordination — and a discount for bulk purchases!

I would love to wear pearls on my wedding day, but I’m not sure that they will work with the neckline of my dress. Earrings & a bracelet might be a better combo for me.

btw, MThree is my wedding photographer, and I got really excited when I saw one of her pictures on your post! :)

I used my grandma’s pearl necklace that she left to my mom. I didnt want to wear a necklace but really wanted a bracelet so I wrapped it twice around my wrist and used it as a bracelet. It worked perfectly and my husband loved it.

I have an old strand of my grandmothers pearls that I’m going to wear. They are super fragile so I’m having them re-strung with a silk bow added. Hopefully they will look something like this:

When my grandparents got married (in 1946) my grandfather gave my grandmother a double strand of pearls to wear for the wedding. Years later, she had the strands seperated and gave one strand to my mother and one strand to my aunt. I wore my mother’s strand on my wedding day. I also wore a triple strand pearl bracelet with a pavé diamond clasp that was my paternal grandmothers.

my grandmother use to wear a pearl necklace to all family events for as long as i can remember. when she passed 3 years ago the necklace was taken to a jeweler who took it apart, placing 2 pearls as well as our birthstone in a set of dangle earrings for all girls in the family. my birthstone is april so pearls and diamonds (!). i have never worn them putting them aside for my wedding day. it means so much to me to be able to have a piece of her there with me when she physically cant be.
nice selction on your pearls. you will look lovely.

My grandma and grandpa gave me a strand of pearls. I’m definitely wearing it for my wedding. Need to get a bracelet, though!

My mom and dad gave my sister a strand of pearls at her rehearsal dinner, it was so sweet. I’ve always drooled over pearls–they’re just so pretty. I don’t know if I’ll ever feel right wearing them. Go figure

I love pearls but preferably the freshwater ones—love the textures they sometimes have. I also love the smallish pearls, just more my style. Can’t wait to see the set paired with your dress :)

I wanted to be a pearl-wearing bride, but they just don’t go with my dress and I decided to wear the gold Pakistani jewelry my aunts are having made for me (right now!) instead. But I might be ordering black pearl sets for my bridesmaids as gifts… and maybe white ones for me, too… for another time. :)

I wore pearls! Pearl earrings and a long pearl necklace that I wound around my wrist to be a multi-strand bracelet.

I love your choices!

I’m not wearing pearls, but as a former sorority girl, I understand their pure elegance. EVERY girl should have a set of pearls in their jewelry box! My first set was given to me by my mom when I graduated high school. I LOVE them!

I AM a pearl bride. Even my E-ring is a pearl! E-ring, watch “band,” earrings, and necklace. My necklace is a twisted triple strand, a present fromm my FI, who bought it from Woman At Risk International.

Here is a great descriptor of pearls, taken from Women at Risk International:

“Deep within the darkness of the ocean, nestled on the sandy floor, danger and beauty live side by side. In the ebb and flow of life, living creatures are attacked unfairly. In the midst of this struggle, a choice is made. As the parasite attacks the softness of the clam, creation has written a story of hope in the face of crisis. Slowly over time, layers and layers of costly experience cover the invader, forming what we all know as pearl of great price. The greater the heat, the faster the growth.

So it is, deep within the lives and hearts of women, danger and beauty live side by side. In the midst of this stormy struggle, every woman makes a choice that will write the story of her life in the sands of time. When attacked, she can choose to weave a story of hope in the face of her pain. Slowly over time, Women At Risk, Int’l offers a protected place to turn this attack into a pearl of great price, hope and unspeakable beauty.”

Women at Risk is a great organization, I urge you all to check it out: http://warinternational.org/index.php?

I recently commented this on Miss Gloss’ something borrowed post, but I love the story of my pearls:

I borrowed my grandmother’s “Oprah” pearl necklace!

It’s called the “Oprah” necklace because 10 years ago my grandfather (who was a jeweler) was invited to the Christmas gift special, and he brought that necklace to show!

I loved that my something borrowed had a unique story and is now a family heirloom!

I love pearls. I had a single strand from my grandmother which was the perfect length(chokerish) and the pearls were just tad bit bigger than average but the string broke and i have yet to have them restrung. I also have a diamond necklace from my grandmother which previously belonged to her mother which I will wear but I love the suggestion or wrapping the pearls as a bracelet, never thought of that before. Maybe I will find a way to get them restrung before the wedding.

I’ve received 3 sets of the identical pearls — my 8th grade graduation, replacements after my family moved when I was 16 and they got lost, and finally, replacements after my mom misplaced them. Pearls are great for dressing up any outfit, especially a cocktail dress for a formal wedding. They go with anything (well not the linen pants and tank that is my work uniform, but you know what I mean)!
