About Mrs. Labrador

As you may have guessed by the title, this post is about our signature drinks! ;)

Drinks on Us! Part 2: The John Hancock of Cocktails. : wedding alcohol Picture0150 Source*

We’re having a full bar at our cocktail hour and reception and thought it would be fun to have drinks that represent the entire wedding party. There will be a total of three signature drinks: one for the bridesmaids, one for the groomsmen, and then one in honor of Mr. Lab and me.

Our matron of honor and best man will be in charge of creating their respective signature drinks. The only rule they have is that the ladies’ drink must be a pink concoction…

… while the men must have a brown one (again, all fitting into our color palette).

They’ve yet to pick out their cocktails, so any ideas for them, as well as cute and catchy drink names, are certainly welcome!

As for Mr. Lab and my signature drink, we’re going with the “yum-o!”-inducing White Russian. We both love, love, LOVE this drink. And it’s white, so it sorta fits the theme of a wedding!

In case you’ve never had a White Russian (or you aren’t a lush like moi), here’s the quick and simple recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz coffee liqueur (ours will be made with Kahlua)
  • Light cream
  • Chocolate syrup (optional decoration—we’re having the bartender add the initial of our last name on the drinks!)

Mixing instructions:

Pour vodka and coffee liqueur over ice cubes in glass. Fill with light cream. Add chocolate syrup swirl to top and serve.

We’ve decided that we’re going to use tags to label our ceremony drinks…

… and chalkboards to display our signature drink options!

These are the two easiest and cheapest display options. I really liked the chalkboard signs, but decided using them inside only will ensure they won’t blow away or fall down in the wind during the ceremony. I will be hitting up Michaels tomorrow after work to get started on our DIY signs!

I’ve got plenty of experience working with chalkboards. I’ve had one chalkboard since I was a sophomore in college that has “evolved” to fit my needs. I’m hoping I can hold on to the ones I use in the wedding for many years just like the one I have already!

My trusty chalkboard as the focal point of my crazily decorated apartment door. All my roommates had similarly-overdone doors! (Hey, I was a sophomore, so don’t judge! LOL)

Same chalkboard, different location and messages. I love that my little sister and I are rockin’ the braces at the same time!

Still the same chalkboard but with the new border I painted to match our updated “Parisian” kitchen when Mr. Lab moved in! I added the sign above it for about $2.

Now comes the hard part: naming our cocktail! Any suggestions? I hope you have some ’cause Mr. Lab’s drink names aren’t so great:

Thirsty for more? Read Part 1!

*Have you ever noticed how John Hancock and all the other men who signed the Declaration of Independence have phenomenal, calligraphy-like handwriting? Seriously, where are all the men with GOOD handwriting nowadays?!? I could use one of them, especially when I’m writing thank you notes or addressing invitations! Sheesh.

Awww, love your “traveling” chalkboard. I’m a fan of Black Russians — but just cuz I like to cut out excess cream I don’t need to drink. (Plus, that allows me to have a gelato treat instead!) ;-)

There’s a guy down at our local Les Schwab (tire store) that has phenomenal cursive. I kiddingly asked the other day if I could bring my envelopes to him!

Woo woo! I see that Anchor on your door and those amazing letters there with it! :D

As far as drink names what about something like: Russian (like rushin’) down the aisle (or, to the chapel) ??

I love your signature cocktail ideas. White Russians are so delish! I actually drink them with my mom, who also loves them.

I like your “traveling” chalkboard. We had a similar dry-erase board that followed us around for a while!

White Russians are great, my FH turned me onto Colorado Bulldogs though and I haven’t gone back (might fit into your college theme). You could call it a Georgia Bulldog instead

Aaah! Naming signature drinks is always so hard! >.<

The girls’ drink could always be a cosmopolitan (those are pink, right?) or a strawberry/watermellon martini, and you could call it the “Giggly Girl(s)” or something like that.

The guys could maybe do a rum & coke, or a brown cow…not sure what they’d call it, though. “Bashful Boy(s)” doesn’t sound like a cocktail!

As for yours, why not something simple? Love, joy, etc?

Oooh i’ve never had a white russian, but will have the mister make me one tonight - sounds yummy! We too had pink & brown as our colors and tried to have signature cocktails to match. For the ladies we had greyhounds (fresh grapefruit juice and vodka) for the pink and the guys had long island ice teas for the brown.

Your remark at the end - my brother has great handwriting, much better than mine, so I may employ him to do our addressing!

That picture of the tags you’d like to use made me think you should have (for the non-drinkers) iced tea (brown) and pink lemonade! :)

I’m very jealous of your guests choices of beverages! White russians are my absolute favorite adult beverage. You HAVE to try them with flavored vodka, though. Van Gogh Vodka makes an Espresso flavored one (that I pair with a Bailey’s-type liquor instead of Kahlua), but my favorite is their Dutch Chocolate. It’s soooo delicious - I want one right now!

As for a cute name, maybe you could do a play on words (in college, my FI would always drink Early Times, but call it Ancient Situation). Sometimes I call it the “Caucasian Sensation” or, as the bartenders call it, “The Molly” :)

I like DC Anna’s name suggestion! Very cute!

I’m still not sure if we’re going to be able to do the signature drinks at our wedding, but if we do, we’re probably going to call it the “Kiss me Kate.” I like the idea of having the drink be a play on one or both of the bride/groom’s names…

Thanks for all the help and suggestions ladies! I’m passing these along to my wedding party!

@Miss Bruschetta: Mmm, hadn’t thought about the Black Russian. Good to cut where you can to save up for other goodies! But I think that for the wedding I can go all out on this one. ;)

@Miss Sapphire: I need to meet a guy with good handwriting. To me, men like that are myths!

@Miss Star: Yup, Mr. Lab is a classy dude. haha

@DC Anna: OMG! That’s it! “Russian Down the Aisle” Genius! Thanks Anna! LITB!!!

@IA_Snowflake: I’ve never heard of that before. Gotta look it up now!

@ready2bmrsd: ITB!!! ;)

@Jenniphyr: I don’t know why we didn’t think of the Cosmos all being SATC fans! Duh!
