Escorting the Escort Cards

July 21st, 2009 @ 12:41 pm by Mrs. Cowboy Boot

Now that I’ve given you the basic idea of our escort cards or place cards (whichever you prefer to call them), I’m still struggling to figure out how to display them. I’m pretty stuck on two options, but please, expand my horizons.

Tied to horseshoes? Believe it or not, a woman in my office donated a bucket of horseshoes to me, knowing I wanted to use them in my decor somehow. She has horses and, unfortunately, this bucket is full of used horseshoes, so I’ll be doing some hosing off.

I’m completely ga-ga for all three ways, below (in a wagon with grass, in an antique shade, or strung from a clothesline)…

Our guests will be snagging their escort cards as they head into the barn from its deck (where our cocktail hour will be). If we wanted to do the clothesline thing, I’m not sure how we would hang it (given there are no trees on the deck).

We do have a pretty adorable, rustic, wagon-like table, but do I really want to drive it six hours? It’s tempting.

What did you do to display your escort cards? Or what are you planning on? Any ideas for me?

Ooo, I love that top option — how many horseshoes do you have?

maybe you can find a way to attach branches/poles to a couple of the posts on the deck? or stick them in a pail with sand? not sure how the deck is set up but those could be options

I love the horseshoe option. It could double as a favor

The horseshoes are perfect! You could always spruce them up with pewter spray paint if they need a little more than a hosing off.

I think using the horseshoes is an adorable idea.

Later, you could also set up a pole and let them play a game of horseshoes. It would be a great ice breaker for some of the guests that may not know each other.

Loving the horseshoes but the clothesline is my second fave! Hope you figure this out!

I love the horseshoes. They would make a great favor afterwards, since a horseshoe (facing up like a U) is supposed to carry good luck :-)

Umm, I’m in love with the horseshoes. If you don’t have enough, maybe a lot of used ones off of Ebay? Love it.

I do really like the horshoe idea. We are using two old plantation shutters and using the tent escort cards. The front of the escort card with their name will show, while the back piece will be inserted into the shutter. Hopefully this works as well as I’ve planned!

If you wanted to do the clothesline you could get two galvanized buckets and fill them with sand and then use bamboo poles maybe or something similiar to hang the cards on.

I love the horeshoe idea. I wish we had a stronger theme for our wedding that we could use. Escort cards were the hardest for me to visualize. I think you’ve got great options!

I vote for the horseshoes, along with a couple of stakes outside so people can play a game of ’shoes if they’d like.

i love the horseshoes. if you didn’t have enough you could attach the two names of the couples to the same shoe. and a good scrub with a wire brush and the shoes will be good as new.

I used horseshoes for my escort cards. We just had them out on the table in the barn. I vote for the horseshoes.

The horseshoes are adorable! I’m also drooling the 2 photo sides of your inspiration display. I so wish we could have an old wagon to do the grass option :) that’s my fave

Love the horseshoes. They’d look awesome either strung on a line (assuming they didn’t break it) and in a wagon. Is there any way you can drive it down in advance, at all?

I vote for the horseshoes… we used horseshoes for favors and they turned out really cute and were a big hit. We also got them used and although it was a pain and time-consuming, the best way to clean them is with a wire bristle brush (we actually bought car detailing brushes - they were the cheapest and small enough to get into the crevices).

Love the horseshoes with the idea of being able to play horse shoes using them!

I am planning something similar to the clothesline but in a picture frame, it’s easy to move and has a bit of a rustic feel but the horseshoes fit your wedding so perfectly!

Someone may have already mentioned something similar: you could get a couple of short poles to stand vertically somehow and stack the horseshoes up around the pole (as if it were a game of horseshoes). Maybe do one pole per table, with that table’s escort cards/shoes in the pile. Poles stuck in sand-filled buckets or large pots with grass and soil would be cute…

Horseshoes would also be nice because of their weight - they are not likely to blow away or fall over.

Oh my gosh the horseshoes are just great! What a fortunate donation to come your way! I also love the clothesline idea…

And what a fun thought to have people use the escort horseshoes with stakes to play a game of horseshoes during the reception…that would be REALLY fun!

I love the horseshoe idea! It goes perfectly with your place cards. We did river stones as escort cards with the names written on them.

We used horseshoes for our favors. My husband and I are both cowboys and met at a horse ranch so we collected a bunch of used horseshoes from there and tied a little tag on about how the shoe came from the place we met and to hang them the open side up, etc.
If you have access to a cement mixer throw them in there with a bunch of rocks. It will knock almost all the nails out and all the dirt. But keep in mind that used horseshoes (as cool as they look) are a lot of work. After getting all the nails out we had to hammer ours back into shape (flatten them) since they get twisted when they are pulled off the horses. Fortunately, my husband shoes horses so we were able to get it done fairly quickly.

Miss CB - I saw this post on Ritzy Bee today and thought of you. Not sure if this is your “style” per se, but kind of a cute idea!
