About Mrs. Powder Puff

Love, Sweet Love: Getting Purty

July 21st, 2009 @ 4:39 pm by Mrs. Powder Puff

The morning of the wedding I woke up and was completely calm. All the butterflies of the week fluttered away, and I was left with a feeling of peace and a spark of “hells to the yeah, it’s my wedding day”!!! It was an incredibly gorgeous day outside (no thanks to you, weatherman!), and I could not wait for what was to come.

After showering, lounging for a bit, and getting my daily recommended dose of caffeine, my bridesmaids and some family started to arrive. It was time to get gorgeous!

My cousin’s lovely wife, Stefanie, agreed to get us looking fabulous, and wasted no time getting started.

Sister Powder Puff getting her hair done in my parents’ kitchen.

If there is one thing I can recommend for brides, it is to get a little drinky in on the wedding day. Seriously. Although I felt cool as a cucumber, a little liquid courage couldn’t hurt, right?

Mmm, mimosas! Cheers!

Let’s hit pause for a funny story, shall we? The weekend before the wedding, also known as the Fourth of July, my friends and I traveled up north to Traverse City for a little fun in the sun. Well, silly me, I should have put on more sunscreen, or at least worn a hat, because the next morning I had the WORST sunburn ever. Super uneven, and all over. Eeks!

After a week of aloe, it was much better, and no longer painful, but being pale and pasty normally, one bad sunburn scars me for the rest of the summer. Those tan lines last FOREVER! So, if you look closely in the pictures, especially at my legs and back, you’ll be able to see the terrible repercussions of a day in the sun. Piece of advice for brides, #2- wear sunscreen, peeps!

OK, back to the day.

Gettin’ my hair did by my cousin’s super-talented wife, and looking super sassy all the while.

The results!

Pinning in the flower.

A little to the right…. no, now a little to the left… PERFECT!

Alrighty! Let’s head to the venue!

Up next: The girls and I get dressed!

question! why did you put the stuff all in yr hair despite having to head over to another venue?

(you look great, and your parents have a very pretty kitchen!)

I so feel you on the sunscreen. I was the kid that got burned during fire drills in middle and high school. The joys of super pale skin. Luckily I’m getting married in March, so I have the fall and winter to get rid of my awkward, red-hued tan before I march down the aisle.

Also, I love the picture of y’all with mimosas — that’s totally my plan. I’ll need a little buzz in the morning when I’m all antsy and ready to get the show on the road. Later in the day I’ll just rely on adrenaline and excitement. :D

@mrspaetz: My cousin’s wife (who did my hair) wasn’t going to be available to help me once we got to the venue, so we put everything in at home.

Plus I stepped into my dress, so I didn’t have the fear of messing up my hair. :)
