Miss Poodle's Picture
Miss Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.

Making the Dress!

July 21st, 2009 @ 8:24 am by Miss Poodle

This is me, working hard on the dress of my dreams! smile05 Ohhh yeah! The best part about my dress is that I’m making it with recycled fabric, and basing my design on the bottom half of Monique Lhuillier’s Swan Lake dress.

I’ll also be making the crinoline and undergarment. And the best part? So far it’s costing me just $75 American dollars. Isn’t that great!!?? (Yes!! For everything!) I already bought all the fabric and accessories I’ll be using.

You might be wondering: What kind of fabric costs that little?

If you are Mr. Poodle, please don’t scroll down and read the rest of this post!

Yes, it is really cheap - some of the materials are great leftovers I had from previous projects, but all the fabric I bought was from a store that went broke, so they had a huge sale! I bought 40 metros of tulle for  $12.000 Chilean pesos - That’s about 131.2 feet of tulle for $24! eek Wow! Luckilly I ran into this sale right after I decided to go with a puffy bottomed dress… about 6 months ago.

I’m officially done with the bottom part (the main part still has some work left to do). I’m showing the bottom here, so don’t pay attention to the corset I’m using. The rest will be coming soon!!

{ I’m terrible at surprise pictures! }
In this picture I was listing all the things I had left to do that day! smile04

Don’t pay attention to the COLORFUL corset; it was the only one I had on hand that had a shape I liked.  I know it’s hard to imagine the finished dress now, but stay tuned! It’s coming!

I wish I had the patience to make my own wedding dress…there was a day I had dreamed about doing this. The what ifs got the best of me though. Like what if I spent months making it only to find I didn’t like it. So far it looks great…I am super excited to see the finished product!!

You’ve got some great sewing skills there! I’d dreamed of making my own dress, but we’re getting married 2 weeks after I finish my first year of grad-school, and I knew I would never get it done. Can’t wait to see how your dress comes out!

Wow! Are you using a pattern to do that? Did you make a mock-up dress first before you worked with the fancy fabric?

I’m impressed!!! My grandma and I are making my bolero and it’s a lot of work. I couldn’t imagine a whole dress!
