Tie-ing the Knot

July 21st, 2009 @ 10:54 am by Mrs. Bruschetta

This post’s about my groom-to-be. And his inspiration photo.

Yup, you read that right. It’s been a long engagement — almost 20 months! — so the mister was bound to pick up on the lingo. And several months ago, Mr. Bruschetta showed me a picture he’d saved on his computer featuring a tie — and showcasing his Entourage fan status.

His focus? Well, not the color. We agreed he’d don ivory to match my gown, and the mister had therefore selected a subtly-striped design from Nordstrom. But after that purchase, my (at times) fashion-focused guy started obsessing over the knot. (Just like Mr. Onion, which I discovered after a quick Weddingbee search!)

Um, Double Windsor say what?

Well, apparently that’s what Ari’s rocking above, and it’s the same look Mr. Bruschetta hopes to achieve with his wedding tie. I didn’t even realize there were options for tie knots!

However, I quickly and easily got on board with this one — and even found my own inspiration photo that shows how the Double Windsor’s overall look is at the same time more plump and more smooth than your “average” tie knot.

And the mister, who is finishing the final requirement for his DPT, is working through the wedding as a waiter — ’cause he’s gotta make the moneys somehow! — and dutifully practicing the Double Windsor as part of his “uniform” every night he’s at the restaurant.

I’m thinking Mr. Bruschetta will have to give a brief tie-tying tutorial (say it five times fast?) to the other guys, so they all have the same look going on with their knots — because Miss Bruschetta = detail oriented.

Is/was your groom particular about some aspect of his ensemble?

Funny blog! My husband went with the Double Windsor knot! It’s a very handsome knot.

YAY for Entourage and YAY for the dbl windsor knot! I find myself staring @ Ari’s ties when he’s on the screen… I know, I’m weird! But I just love the way that knot looks!

Oh, that’s a good tutorial. I won’t see two of our groomsmen until just days before the wedding, so they need to get practicing! Thanks for the help.

Great tutorial. Mr. P loves the double windsor! He always wears them. And they look best with a spread collar. Hello Saville Row!

He says that certain ties, if the silk is too thin, will not hold a double windsor. So look for substantial fabric!

That’s too cute! I love seeing what the Mr.’s are coming up with for their inspiration. The double windsor is a good choice knot!

Yeah, anything about about menswear or ties blows my mind. I never know the differences. I guess that’s how guys feel about our strapless/sleeveless/halter/etc. options for dresses or something?

Yep, Mr. G was very picky about his ensemble! Just a side note, if Mr. B is an Entourage fan, the newest episode, at the Great Gatsby after party, was filmed at our wedding venue - the Biltmore in L.A.! Just a little bit of fun Entourage trivia from one fan to another :)

That is hysterical! I love that he’s practicing - he’ll be a master by the time the wedding rolls around!

Weird that you put our photo next to Piven’s. I sang at his birthday party about 12 years ago when we “hung out” for 7 seconds…if you know what I mean.
(Sorry for the name dropping, but I HAD to!)
Anyways, it was way before Entourage and he still followed Cusack around like a little puppy. Thought you’d get a kick out of it.

Ha! Mr C is into the double windsor too! He has to wear ties to work, and he often complains about how bad and crooked a regular Windsor looks.

My fiance is all about the Double Windsor. That is how he ties his knots every day! My mr. was also very particular with his ensemble for the day of. While searching for grey suits, he said it could not be 2 button, as he hates the look of them.
