About Mrs. Bruschetta

Boobage

July 23rd, 2009 @ 3:29 pm by Mrs. Bruschetta

Okay, first let me remind you: I’m decidedly not well-endowed. This Bruschetta’s “tomatoes” are definitely cherry (not Beefsteak) sized.

(source)

I was still surprised, though, at my most recent dress fitting, when one of my, um, tomatoes staged a successful escape over the top of my gown.

At the time, I’d had my arm raised, practicing one of the positions for a swing turn the mister and I are currently perfecting for our first dance. Granted, my arm was up — but it wasn’t, like, hyper extended or anything!

(source)

So the gown’s getting taken in more at the bust and waist, since it really wasn’t as snug as it could be. I’m hoping a tighter fit keeps everything properly in place. But I’m also not taking any chances; the seamstress will be adding bra bones to connect my long line to the dress. And as my last line of defense, I picked up nude-colored pasties. Detachable spaghetti straps would likely help even more; they’d also, however, change the overall look of my gown, so I’d prefer to not go this route.

I’d love to hear from fellow cherry tomato gals — Roma and Beefsteak ladies, feel free to chime in as well, of course — who’ve had similar issues. Anything else I can do to ensure the only tomatoes on display are the ones listed on the menu?

I’m basically a B cup, and I’ve had the same thing happen. I’m wear a bustier under my dress that’s a little snug around the chest just incase, because really you never know. I made my dress for me, but slippage happens. Hopefully once they take your dress in a little more, you’ll be okay.

I love this post. I hadn’t even thought about this, so when I finally have a fitting, I’m covering all measures (literally).

I took a risk and went without anything under my dress on the day of! It could have been disastrous, but thankfully it wasn’t. Hollywood Tape helped keep my beefsteaks in place. ;)

I didn’t have much of a problem since I wanted to add straps to my gown. My BMs were taping their goodies to keep them put in the strapless dresses - cherries and non-cherries alike. They did wear shawls over all the dresses for extra garnishing.

You are hilarious! I am still trying to decide whether I need a strapless bra or not but you may have just sold me. Mine are of the roma variety.

that must have been so unnverving!! Did anyone see?

the solution: double sided tape! It’s the only way.

(but it’s partly why i chose a v neck dress)

too funny! I am wearing a longline bustier but also decided on using hollywood tape - I’m not in danger of any Janet Jackson malfunctions, but I don’t want to be pulling the dress up into the “right” place all night.

Fashion tape has been a life saver for me in just general going out usage. I don’t know what your dress is made out of but it should at least work between you and your bra. Hope this helps!!!

One reason this D-cup bride didn’t go with a strapless dress ;-) I wanted the girls to stay in their place!!

My FI and I moonlight in the wedding industry and one of the first things I decided when we got engaged was that I didn’t care if I found my dream dress, there was no way I was going with strapless. It’s not that we’ve necessarily ever witnessed someone falling out of their dress but what I see so often with strapless dresses is that after a few hours in it and some dancing, the heavy fabric starts to drag down and brides are non-stop hiking up their dress. It’s as pleasant looking as hiking up underwear. Granted a photog can delete that photo and a videographer can edit some things - no offense to those with beautiful strapless gowns but it was something I personally did not want to potentially deal with all day.

Well, I’m definitely a cherry tomato. My gown had no boning or structure, and was a bit sheer. There were plenty of peek-a-boo moments. But I ended up using nude, silicone pasties, and they kept me feelind confident.

I’ve got no boobs either and had plenty of wardrobe malfunctions. Double sided tape (the ones made for skin/fabric) is definitely the way to go. I tried boning once and the “bones” did their job…when I torqued my body while dancing, the corset stayed in place…my boobs didn’t.

I’m nicely-endowed, and I was also worried about popping out, but my dress had boning in all the way over the boob area down to the waist, so it actually had nowhere to go, even if it wanted to - it was all propped up by the fitted part on my waist (I had an A-line dress). I did a lot of jumping with my arms in the air at my fittings, though, to be sure!

I used dress tape along the edge for my strapless e-party dress. I bought it last minute at target (like $8), and it worked great! Actually, almost too well. I had FI paste me in really well, and it was hard getting it off :)

I was unsure about the Target brand, but it worked great. And I’m not even sure I needed it, but it gave me a lot of extra confidence.

I’m like a tiny grape tomato, BTW, so I always need padding or something extra to not look pre-pubscent in a strapless.

I have smaller than cherry tomatoes (think still in the bud) and I wanted to find a non-strapless dress because there isn’t much there to try to hold up. I ended up with (surprise surprise) a strapless dress, because that’s all there is out there these days. It did come with a ribbon so straps can be attached though. Oh, and it’s a corset, so I can just cinch it in tighter to fit — no alterations needed this time!

I would suggest if possible trying on your dress one last time as close to the wedding as possible. My tomatoes are good sized. I wore strapless and had it fitted so that it was perfect, even actually a bit snug. Unfortunately I lost weight in the two weeks before the wedding, put the dress on and had issues. We were able to make it stay up with a lot of stress. But I was tugging all night and there was more cleavage that I would have liked. If I had tried it on closer to the wedding I would have had time to fix and not been trying to sew/strap/tape myself into right before the ceremony.

You could try the new bra. It’s an adhesive bra (only on the front) and it works great. That’s what I’m doing to prevent the peep show!

Double stick tape. Line your bra on the outside and inside so it is stuck to you and your dress.

My tomatoes are a 38 D D D (yes, three) so I know exactly what you mean about them escaping. Hollywood tape is a must.

Haha! I feel your pain in the tomato situation. However, I must say that I fully embrace the perks (haha…perks…) of having smaller, erm, tomatoes…

Like the others are suggesting, fashion tape is great…I get mine at Victoria’s secret…its $10 for a box of like, 40 strips, and they work great! Piece of mind in the form of tape.

Are you having cups sewn into your dress? I hate hate hate wearing a bra (wow, that sounds awful huh?)…I’m tiny enough that I don’t need to have all the garments that suck you in, so I want to cut down on all the extra stuff under the dress…I’m just having my seamstress sew in cups to my dress…which will hopefully keep it on even more securely!

I think I’m going to have the same problem if I lift my arms. I have nothing to anchor them in! I was thinking I’d wear a bra of some sort just so if something shows it’s not me! I might try some fashion tape too, but I don’t want to worry about it if it comes unstuck.

Another question for those of us with smaller tomatoes, though, does anyone else have problems with gapping in bras? If so where do you buy lingerie that fits/what will you wear for your honeymoon?

@tachee - Ok, so if anyone else reads my posts knows of my love of everything Nordstrom…but hey…its just so great! I would HIGHLY recommend taking a trip to Nordys to get fitted for bras. 70% of women wear the wrong size of bra, and a lot of times at VS or other places, you aren’t really getting fitted properly, and the sizes offered are limited (especially if you are smaller, like me!) Anyway, Nordstrom has one of the biggest selections of sizes in undergarments, and they are very very great about sizing you perfectly…its a bit strange to have some lady in the dressing room with you and such…but whatever, we all have the same parts….

Love the post! I wish I had moved around a little more during my final fitting. I raised my arms and everything was fine, but I didn’t anticipate all the jumping around I’d do during the reception! Nothing terrible happened, but I def look a little boobsy in some of the pictures where I’m dacing with my friends!

All I have to say is that I love the metaphors that come out of Weddingbee. First Twister, then tomatoes, what next?
