Color Theory Goes High-Tech

July 23rd, 2009 @ 1:08 pm by Mrs. Deviled Egg

My choice of favorite color changes all the time. Right before I was engaged, I was all about the pink and brown combo. Before that, I was into oranges and yellows. With wedding planning, I became obsessed with the perfect shade of green. Now, I’ve moved on to the ever-popular Martha Stewart blue and red combo.

When I picked out our wedding color palette, I started with the green shade and looked at several options for accent colors. The easiest way for me to pick them out was by going to the home improvement store and snatching up paint chips. I love paint chips!

You may remember my swatch card, where I utilized the paint chips by placing them on a small card I could tote around in my purse. I can’t tell you how many times I referred to this little card when I was out shopping for wedding supplies, or even when I was browsing through a random store and saw something I thought might work for wedding decor.

Just today, I found an iPhone app that is the high-tech version of my little swatch card. It helps with choosing color palettes by allowing you to snap a picture of something that’s a color you like, and then it gives you two complementary colors as accents. Bonus: It’s FREE!

The ColorSnap™ app from Sherwin Williams can help color-troubled brides everywhere find the perfect colors to accent their wedding decor.

Start by taking a picture of anything, and the handy dandy tool tells you which color is the closest match. Then, it selects two accent colors to complete your look.

You can save the palette on your phone, so you will always have it handy when you are out and about. If you take a picture of your bridesmaid dress color selection, the app will store the shade and the accents so you can use it as a reference when checking out paper for your invitations or selecting candles for your centerpieces.

Ahhh… I love it when you can put a tool to use for wedding planning when it’s original intention was for nothing of the sort.

How did you decide on your wedding colors?

Wow THANK you so much! I am just like you in that my favorite color changes all the time. From our engagement last July up until now, I’ve changed our wedding color at FIVE times already. This app definately will help when comes to indecisive-ness!

my FI’s faveorite color is red. Since we are having a September wedding I loved the thought I red and gold. However, when I was online browsing dresses I found the perfect dress. Only the closest color to red was brugundy. I kind of shuddered at the thought before looking at it, but when I saw it….it was amazing! The dress was Burgundy with gold embroidery on the top. Perfect for our bridesmaids! I just have to keep an eye on it to make sure it’s avilible when my BM’s make their orders. haha.

Makes me, again, wish I had an iPhone. My color ideas change all the time too and I will not let myself by anything until the new year for my wedding since it’s 14 months away! I know my choice in color will change again and again between now and the time I need to actually buy stuff. HAHA

iPod touch should be able to take this app too. check before you go buy a new ipod though. it’ll be a little cheaper and there’s no monthly service fee like there is for an iPhone.

Why can’t they make cool stuff like that for Blackberry? Verizon doesn’t do iPhone and I’m not willing to sacrifice service for a super cool phone.
