About Mrs. Joey

Yes, I have one. I know I shouldn’t, but I think this one will be OK. It may turn out to be less work than the first idea.

So way back when, our ceremony coordinator said the flower girl couldn’t throw/drop fresh or dried flowers as she walked in. I was contemplating buying a bag of fake rose petals from Michaels but it just didn’t feel like something that went with the style of our wedding. I then had this brilliant idea to make flowers out of the scraps of fabric we used for the table runners. It would tie together the reception and ceremony nicely.

Well, time has passed and I still haven’t started on those flowers. I thought about having FMIL Joey take them on, but it may be too time intensive.

Guess what? I have a new plan.

What if we made little poms? We’re using them to give texture to our centerpieces already. I think they’d be cute, easy to clean up, and brighten the aisle. :) I was thinking of making tiny ones, that way she could fit 6 or 7 in her little basket.

I also thought about making paper flowers.

I like the pom idea, but what do you ladies think? Fabric flowers, paper flowers, or mini poms?

Poms out of yarn? If so, do it! They’re quick and easy to pull together, but soooo cute!

I think the poms or the paper flowers would be super cute. I love the look of the poms but paper cut in to the shaps of flowers would look neat doen the aisle.

@Miss Bruschetta: I was thinking of making them out of the leftover tissue paper from the bigger poms.

@Miss Joey: Also very cute! If it’s not too labor- or time-intensive, go for it!

I love all those ideas. What about a combo of a few? Maybe some poms and some paper flowers? Good Luck, please let us know how they turn out! I think your idea may have solved my problem too! THANK YOU!

I’ve been exploring making my own fabric flowers http://iftinkerbellknit.wordpress.com/2009/07/16/fabric-flower-trial/ similar to the ones in the current issue of MSW. It would be very easy to get fat quarters of fabric in your desired colors with a variety of prints or textures for inter6est (prolly $6 of fabric) and some sheets (not the strips, prolly $4) of steam a seam to stick two pieces of fabric together. Do the whole fat quarter and then cut our petal shapes. You could mix these in with tissue paper… $10 total, very easy- Mr Joey could hep… PS, not sure how to link website in comments- but if my link didn’t work- just go to my blog- the flower post is at or near the top.

I like the idea of poms too! However, I tried to make smaller poms for our favor boxes. I cut the width about 4 inches and I had a difficult time pulling the layers apart. The length was still as long as the sheet so maybe I just had too many “petals”. I hope you have better luck. I have gotten better at it and find if I use quick strokes it works better. Good luck!

What about those little velvety balls you can buy at the craft store? You can buy a bag of them for a few dollars, and they come in a bunch of different colours…they’d be a breeze to sweep up afterwards!

I’ve seen people use them as couples exit the church in lieu of rice etc. But it would definitely be cute for on the way in.

I love the mini pom idea! They’re colourful, easy to make and clean-up! Plus if any go “astray” while being tossed they won’t cause any kind of damage - hey, you never know!

I’m using poms as part of our ceremony decor, but making them out of tulle. That’s just another idea for you!

Mini poms are so cute and since you’re using them in the centerpieces they would great to have in the ceremony as well!
